Think that pic was taken at tip off. It filled up.Didn't realize lower bowl had so many empty seats
Ridiculous price of tickets in lower bowl keeps many fans away from a game with two Big East teams with crappy records.Didn't realize lower bowl had so many empty seats
(Cragg) Definitely not an idiot, but does he have the acumen to help resurrect our basketball program? Based on what he considers a "home run hire", I have my doubts.
If you take away Soriano's 14pnts and Wusu's 12pnts, everyone else had 23 freaking pnts, can't win like that.Ridiculous price of tickets in lower bowl keeps many fans away from a game with two Big East teams with crappy records.
The crowd was mostly redmen fans but Nova has a huge fan/alumni base in the metro area.
This loss was a HUGE letdown for the fans there and only another win streak will bring them back.
I will not be trekking into the city for mediocre performances for premium bucks unless this team shows some cojones on their home court
You’re only throwing gasoline on a fire to cut down number of games at MSG. It’s only recruiting tool we even have. No one cares about UBS except for Islander fans.Based on the apparel people were wearing (Nova paraphernalia vs St. John's paraphernalia), 60/40 at best, and I think that was generous.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Our best shot to get a home cort advantage is to move all of our games to UBS, and do what Seton Hall does at the Rock, and curtain off the upper bowl.
The Garden, IMO, has been our biggest impediment to winning for quite a long time now.
Right Otis, but Cragg helped create this financial predicament by not only hiring CMA , but even more foolishly giving him an extension. There's access to money, then there's smart money management. I don't trust Cragg to manage money if he had it.Cragg understands what should be done but his options are constrained by the realities of the University’s finances.
Get real: Do you really believe Cragg has the available money to upgrade Carnesecca Hall but has chosen not to do so?
if CMA returns for another season do you really believe that the buy out money is available but Cragg wants to keep him?
For that matter do you really believe that the extended contract which CMA received was given solely on Cragg’s initiative without approval of the President or Trustees?
I am as frustrated with the losing ways of the St. John’s men’s basketball program as those reading this message.
Money can cure most, if not all of St. John’s basketball issues and lead to greater success but unfortunately St. John’s is a loser on the money issue as well. Unfortunately it is a chicken and egg cycle; success generates greater revenue, etc.

It did get more filled up, but there were still a lot of empty sections in the lower bowl even later on in the gameThink that pic was taken at tip off. It filled up.
It's a recruiting tool, but not a player retention tool. Hasn't stopped players from leaving. Plus, I think it means more to our opponents playing once or twice a year. Playing 5 times a year minimum, like we do, it tends to lose it's luster a bit. You’re only throwing gasoline on a fire to cut down number of games at MSG. It’s only recruiting tool we even have. The day that MSG no longer wants us, is the day that I no longer waste my time as a Redmen fan. That would be the death knell to me.It's a recruiting tool, but not a player retention tool. But, I'm not saying cut down on MSG home games. I'm saying don't play any. Having 2 home courts, is the equivalent of having zero home courts. Maybe we can't live without MSG, but we can't live with them, either, IMO. They don't have many available dates for us, which usually means bad start times and dates, last night being an exception.
UBS may not be the sexiest name building, but for us, it's the best home court for us. Only houses one pro team, and no concert residency, means we'll have more of a say, schedule wise. With most of our fanbase in Queens and LI anyway, it's a perfect spot, though not ideal for students, but than again, neither is MSG.
Plus, one day, MSG may not want us anymore. Giving UCONN 4 games there next year (I know some of that is the exempt tournament) was a subtle telling of that, IMO. Gotta have something ready to go, in case that happens.
as with a lot of usThe day that MSG no longer wants us, is the day that I no longer waste my time as a Redmen fan. That would be the death knell to me.
Otis let's keep the finances needed for a new arena separate from the finances needed to run the basketball program. We have the funds to run the basketball program. We supposedly do not have the funds for a new arena. So, with a nearly 10 million dollar per year budget(the average Big East team budget), are you telling me that we can't structure a deal with a competant coach(Pitino or someone else) to run our team? Again, a competent coach will pay for himself. Pitino will pay for himself countless times over. Remember when we were sold the BS that we the only coach that we could afford at the time was Norm at 500k per year. And then, just like that, the school figured out a way to pay Lav a couple of Mil a year. And Mullin even more and CMA even more. So I'm sorry, I'm not buying any of the BS that the school is selling.Cragg understands what should be done but his options are constrained by the realities of the University’s finances.

Mike I nominate you to start overseeing the finances of the basketball program.as with a lot of us
St. John's had an endowment valued at over $720 million in 2020. It had a lower return on investment than most universities in its class.Cragg understands what should be done but his options are constrained by the realities of the University’s finances.

Not an idiot by any means Otis, but I will withhold judgement as to whether he’s proficient enough at his job to lift this program from the depths of destruction based on what steps he takes to rectify this dysfunctional situation at seasons end.Cragg is not an “idiot” (your term).
Those finances should be flowing after the beer sales at CarnessecaMike I nominate you to start overseeing the finances of the basketball program.
Losers make excuses, winners find solutions.St. John's had an endowment valued at over $720 million in 2020. It had a lower return on investment than most universities in its class.
It still has a larger endowment than most Big East schools.
Teaching salaries account for over 44% of its budget so retention of students is critical. Since SJ admits many more academically borderline students than other major universities the drop-out rate is higher. Part of keeping the university fiscally sound is to admit fewer lower academically challenged students for revenue stability.
Then reduce teaching costs to adjust to the lower student population.
Our problem has been coaching stability. Just as our financial problem has been student retention and attraction of higher achievement high school students.
Make the right investment decisions in both areas and we grow. I think that is why we now have a non-Vincentian at the helm. We have been too slow and not progressive enough to adapt to a changing environment.
The basketball program is at present our biggest marketing product where we get free national publicity.
Marketing is very expensive. Sometimes just a brand name coach and improved team performance on a national stage raises out of state student interest.
The cost of a good coaching staff can reap rewards unavailable on the local level.
Do what it takes to get your premier sport in a positive light.
Otis, then it’s Cragg’s job as AD to go to donors or to network and go wherever he has to or do whatever has to do to raise the funds to rectify the situation. That’s what competent AD’s are able to do.Cragg understands what should be done but his options are constrained by the realities of the University’s finances.
