Villanova (MSG), Fri., Jan. 20, 7p, FS-1

Up 44-38 8:32 left, outscored 19-5 the remainder of the way. The offense was beyond putrid the entire game. Too much standing around with confused looks on their faces.

All that said, if Posh makes his layups, it could have been a different result.
That may have been the turning point that I referenced earlier in the thread when Posh passed up an uncontested layup to take a contested layup that would have put us up 8.

Combine that with the shooting of Pinzon and Storr tonight and we were doomed

It’s not just their shouting. There are no plays designed to get players open. Any basket they get is on their own, they must create plays on their own. If Joe Gerard played for Anderson, he wouldn’t score 3 points a game.

This year we have a center who gives us a double double every game. He's helping our record about as much as Champanie did last year. I guess next year you will be asking how many people miss Soriano.
I said we need a shooter(s) this year, and that we were going to miss the way teams keyed on Champagnie and how it opeiened the court for others. People said we'd make up for the loss of Champagnie by distributing his points amongst multiple players. It don't work that way. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you genius

the only thing that can make this season worse is if they retain CMA. The only thing that can be second to the worst thing is if Georgetown breaks their losing streak against us.

If They lose to Georgetown, that may be what is called a “statement loss” which would be such a bad look, it would be sobering for even Shanley and Cragg.

PS how many people would be stupid enough to say "oh, we won't miss Soriano when he's gone, Stanley and Traore will just share his ppg and rpg"? Again, that's what people were saying when Champ left. You get it now???

President Shanley and Cragg understand facts regarding the St. John’s basketball team which facts include substantial dollars for a buyout.

if that is the play on which he was called for 3 seconds, it very well may have been, but ref can’t call that w/o having called it multiple times against Dixon and, in particular, on one of the final possessions of the game.
I think that’s multiple different problems. But you are right Dixon was in there for ever on his only bucket.

Regarding Posh v Curbelo, I see in Posh a guy who was terrific asa freshman and good last year. This year I see a guy confused and out of sorts. He should be the primary ball handler. But staff has bought into the Curbelo crapper. In Posh I see errors of effort. Curbelo makes
Mistakes because he is too concerned
With flash and trick ball than making
The decent correct play. He’s selfish and erratic and a net minus. When Posh was good, he makes the team and teammates better. He plays under control and plays
Tough defense.

Adding curbelo to this mix was a disaster. The staff needs to put the ball back in Posh’s hands. And by God, don’t play them together. I’d limit Andre to 10 minutes a game and give King some burn unless he proved to be bad. I’d rather have Wusu handle than Curbelo.

Can't blame Shanley for the initial contract, but can blame both of them for the extension. If we cannot go after Pitino or anyone else because they are saddled with this big buyout, then they have no one to blame but themselves, and I have to question their business acumen.

Do we know for sure that this is the case?

I can't imagine CMA was given an extension through the 2026-27 season without there being a substantial buyout attached to it.

The offense looks putrid because the team lacks shooters. St. John's is easy to defend when you can pack it in and dare Posh, Wusu and Curbelo take 3s. You can't put this all on CMA. Players win and lose games. While CMA has to share the blame for putting together the team, he can't be blamed for the telegraphed and lazy passes and the poor shot selection.

While he let players get away with too much early on, it is good to see him pulling Jones whenever he hoists a long 3 early in the shot clock. Wish he would have pulled Curbelo too. An offense with players standing around and lots of forced shots and missed open looks is nothing new around here. It happens when you have team after team filled with players who can't shoot the ball. Everyone here knew this from day 1, but somehow hoped it wouldn't matter this time.

How in the world did they give him such a long extension ? What did he accomplish?

...and which incoming recruits are going to fix this problem? I don't think Gardner and Lendeborg are known for their range and I'm not banking on a whole hell of a lot from Harrison Reede. It's not like CMA could draw up a play for him if he was good.

Agree with those who have stated this is a low point.

I will give Mike Cragg credit for one thing, he got people in the door for this game. A great crowd (13,504) that was about 70/30 pro St. John's. But, it was utterly wasted. Not even a single run to spark some frenzy. As usual, Nova fans sat like church mice until they were absolutely sure the game was in hand. This was, yet another, lost opportunity to ignite some momentum for the program. And the worst part is not the loss. The worst part is the way we self-destructed. The turnovers, the air balls, the unrecognizable passes, and just plain old garbage basketball.

And, as I walked out of MSG to chants of "Let's Go Nova", I realized we are once again pathetic.

Lastly, make no mistake, that Nova team has a lot of issues. They did not impress me at all. This game was beyond winnable.
you said 13000 plus and not a moment to spark some frenzy. a terrible performance for both
