Villanova (MSG), Fri., Jan. 20, 7p, FS-1

Credit Villanova, they made this ugly. We helped too. I just don’t think we play well at the garden. We shud either play all our games there or none at all. If we are familiar with it, at least it can feel like home.

As Paultzman stated, the two transfers are capable of having very ugly games. In my opinion Curbelo is the more talented of the point guards but he cannot seem to shake his penchant for the more difficult plays rather than keeping it simple basketball at times. He and Posh together on the court is a fireable offense.
CMA is probably the nicest coach we have had at St. John's and it is sad that these players are not responding to him in sometimes very selfish ways.

I disagree. WE made it ugly as this was our worst offensive effort of the year against a not very good Nova team. WE beat ourselves in this game.
It has ZERO to do with MSG. We just beat Uconn in Hartford.
Poor lazy passes are mental mistakes and we seem to have a couple of players who emotionally and mentally cannot put it all together in big games.
David Jones has been a big disappointment and CMA clearly is not happy with his decision-making.

A couple things. He definitely waited too long, but at that point would you really rather him compound it by waiting longer to take it and risk us having another shitty possession? I think calling it was the right call regardless of the upcoming media timeout. We needed to make sure we got a good look. BUT of course what we saw out of the timeout was more bull shit. So I guess, does it really even matter when he calls the TO?🤣

He has several assistants that are paid well to make him aware of when a tv time out comes about.

Lol knowing when the media timeout is coming wasn’t my point. Knowing it was coming but deciding it’s still more important to talk things over before the game turns further in novas direction was reasonable. I say that knowing it’s his fault for waiting that long in the first place, and that it was his lack of play call during the timeout that didn’t make us look any better afterwards.

He waited too long then compounded the idiocy by taking one “seconds” before the tv time out.

They say you're not as bad as your worst game and not as good as your best. I think we're far closer to the team that lost 5 in a row than the team that dominated Butler and then won @ UConn. Think the UConn win wasn't much more than catching them at the right time plus a favorable scheme matchup for us as UConn's Defensive strategy is to completely take away the 3 point shot while funneling everything towards the rim where they seem to foul too much. That played right into our hands. Team's like Villanova are going to play solid defense without fouling and force us to make tough shots, which we can't do.

We scored 0.74 points per possession tonight. That is the second worst offensive performance in the CMA era

As for CMA's bullshit excuse about getting but missing a lot of layups-yeah contested layups from 8 feet out by 2 midget 5'8' guards that can't shoot. But hey look at the bright side we will be a dangerous team in the BE Tournament and no one is going to want to play us (hear the same shit every f'ing year).

As for those who say they are or are becoming apathetic I am already there but somehow after watching tonight's game I am angry and disgusted maybe because it was a disgusting game. Even if we won I would have said we played like shit and that we played much better in the loss to Providence. Nova was begging us to take this game and like clock work in a big spot this program shits the bed yet again.

We did our part. For the past year plus we’ve been asked to bring it. Almost 14000 brought it last night and it’s the same old story. Close but no cigar. Enough plays to lose a game, not win it. Another year of looking back at games we should’ve won but lost. Another year of no ncaa tournament. There is only one answer and he’s coaching 10 miles away…

This was unfortunately the turning point of the game.

Hey Mike, how bout call a timeout and save your player who’s stuck in no mans land. We know you’re not gonna use them later to draw up good looks.
if that is the play on which he was called for 3 seconds, it very well may have been, but ref can’t call that w/o having called it multiple times against Dixon and, in particular, on one of the final possessions of the game.

Agree with those who have stated this is a low point.

I will give Mike Cragg credit for one thing, he got people in the door for this game. A great crowd (13,504) that was about 70/30 pro St. John's. But, it was utterly wasted. Not even a single run to spark some frenzy. As usual, Nova fans sat like church mice until they were absolutely sure the game was in hand. This was, yet another, lost opportunity to ignite some momentum for the program. And the worst part is not the loss. The worst part is the way we self-destructed. The turnovers, the air balls, the unrecognizable passes, and just plain old garbage basketball.

And, as I walked out of MSG to chants of "Let's Go Nova", I realized we are once again pathetic.

Lastly, make no mistake, that Nova team has a lot of issues. They did not impress me at all. This game was beyond winnable.
Great Post +1000

Up 44-38 8:32 left, outscored 19-5 the remainder of the way. The offense was beyond putrid the entire game. Too much standing around with confused looks on their faces.

All that said, if Posh makes his layups, it could have been a different result.
