I am amazed that so many Lavinites are posting about this game as a personal revelation that , essentially, this game meant nothing and what a genius Lavin is for resting a Player, C0, who legitimately could have played.. Branch's injury might be another story.

This wasn't a 8 point loss, or a 18 point loss, it was 37 points, ladies and gentleman. This was a humiliation and, if you are truly a St John's fan and student of the game or, a Alum of the school, this is nothing, zero, nada, less than a disgrace.. Some folks wondered (probably, the one's who agreed with his tired narrative) why I would always place my proverbial foot knee-deep in his arse. I see (and, glad) other's are finally speaking up (he ticked Jack Williams off a couple months ago, and Jack saw where I was coming from).

He's been saying the same thing for 2 to 2 1/2 years. All of his posts are practically verbatim.

To be clear, my ty wasn't for his entire post. It was for his first part.

What I was seeing was: "well what do you expect, oh they are the #4 in the country." Like that makes the 37pnt beat down acceptable some how. Like that make all those layups at the end acceptable somehow.
I'll speak for myself here. that will never be acceptable. I agreed that Lavin should have sat Obekpa, and I'm still glad he did, but he's only one man. How do you go down 4pnts with 13minutes left to losing the game by 37? You get outscored by 33 in the final 13 minutes? HTF is that possible? Defense is a team effort.
If we play Villanova on Friday, here's my simple plan for the last 15minutes of the game.
You plant 2 guys down low, if they beat you with the three-ball then so be it, but that lay-up, Dunk-a-thon best not f'ing happen. If they try that shit again, you drop them on their asses, if they get mad and wanna brawl, then let them bring it.
But you better show them that you're a f'ing man and that no matter what happens you never, ever allow them to clown on you again.

Actually I would have been really concerned had Jarvis ever gelled his head at hafltime, but are you guys frigging kidding me?

When it was clear we werent going to win, Lavin started saving bodies:

C Jones 15 mins
Amar 15 mins
JDR 9 mins
Felix 16 mins
Khadim 7 mins
Myles 6 mins
Lipscomb 6 mins


Obviously when those first 4 guys play so many minutes, we aren't even beating DePaul or Creighton. We have a 6 man rotation, and spot Amar or Balamou some time to burn minutes and keep guys out of foul trouble. Why is that so hard to comprehend? From the jump ball we didn't have a prayer with 2 guys out for the game.

I am okay with the premise. But if he was prepared to get smeared in favor of saving bodies, why was he so slow to take DLO out of the game? In fact, he never did. The sore calf had to foul out.

Nova look like a Final 4 team; getting smashed by them on their home court without CO and JB was not unexpected or the disaster some would have you believe. Nova just beat Providence by 28, Seton Hall by 26. They have been SOLID all year. They are #4 and we are unranked for good reason. I am not happy that we got slapped around but at the end of the day it is but one loss.

What is more important to me is that (a) we came through with no more injuries (b) Branch and CO got some needed recuperation time (c) RJ23 continues to look good (d) D'Lo/PG4/Sir'D/RJ23 averaged only 31 mins and should be fresh (e) we will not be complacent and should be fired up when facing the Friars. That is only game that matters right now.

It was an awful embarrassing loss for sure but luckily for us whether you lose by 1 or 37 it only counts as 1 loss.

If you want to talk about quiting why don't you talk about our 0-5 start last year? Did the team quit then? How about 0-3 this year? Or after the Creighton loss. No they did not quit but some of our "fans" sure did. Just like they seem to do after every loss. We're heading to the post season now and our biggest games of the year. So what are you "fans" going to do now? How about this; stop the whining, buy some tickets, and go support your team!!

Or just accept the fact that this year theyre the better team and hope that if we play them again that they are having an off night and we are clicking on all cylinders and can somehow pull out a win...

Yeah, you're right, and I know if I keep posting that I'll be a broken record repeating myself over and over, so think it's a good idea to take a break for a couple nights, and post on Wednesday to talk about PC.
