Villanova- Game 2

We went from up 11 to down 4 in the first half and the best Lavin can do was come out for the second half with his hair styled.

Maybe some halftime adjustments would've Made this less of and embarrassment instead of playing with his gel and comb?

We can all criticise this post and picture as much as we want but unfortunately the facts don't lie. That appeared to be the half time adjustment.

This board is getting fkn ridiculous when a moderator jumps onto this anti Lavin trolls bandwagon....aside from putting in CO, we werent going to stop what was already going on the last 5 minutes of the first half. We opened up red hot from the field hitting our first 5 or 6 shots...then 8 out of 10...that's how we opened up an 11 point lead... Any team capable of shooting 80 percent from the field will most likely win a game.. However no team can continue to shoot at such a rate... There was no way with only 4 of our regulars playing that we had a snowballs chance in hell of winning this game. Especially with Dom having an off game.. There were no halftime adjustments to be made and for all any of us know maybe they did talk about adjustments for 19 minutes and he took a piss and threw some gel in his fkn hair the other 1 minute.. Point is, who gives a rats ass besides you people that have such hatred for a man that has revived our dead program... Im really starting to dislike this board...I'm glad a "moderator" can add fuel to the fire... Good job you're doing bud...

Thankfully this isn't a dictatorship that allows the Lavin apologists to determine what is acceptable and not acceptable to post.

There was a 48 point swing in yesterday's game and all Lavin had to show as a change was his hair.

My post was 100% fact with pictures as proof and once again, in a feeble attempt by you to retort, you go and attack another poster because he doesnt think a 48 point swing is acceptable in a division one basketball game.

And I'm glad you're "really starting to hate this board" maybe we can pop you up on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) so you can get in touch with your feelings and get over your hatred for this board because Steve Lavin gelled his hair in the middle of our worst loss in 12 yeArs and it was mentioned here.

Now go get your shine box.

What would you have done to stop what happened yesterday?

Also I'm hoping i can appear on the same episode as you and daddy albano after SJU extends Lavin... I know you guys will need the big O and perhaps Dr Phil to help get over that one

No, Avon, not facts. As rawdog pointed out, he did indeed comb his hair, but you have no clue as to what was discussed during halftime.

Truth is, you're a despicable little troll, spouting your daddy's vitriol, and you do indeed make this board much less enjoyable for many, if not most, posters.

That is fact.

Did you get that info from the 2015 Redmen.com survey? I don't believe I was so hated in 2014 but maybe that's because I wAs just making my long awaited return, I liken it to when Michael Jordan returned in 95-it took an while for him to return to championship form.

If it makes you feel better you don't make my Redmen.com experience less enjoyable because I just skip right over your posts since they display very little intelligence and knowledge when it comes to the topic of St. John's basketball. Maybe you should look into staying in the new "rookie forum" until your posts reach a respectable level ;)

So, what adjustments should Lavin have made? Curious minds would love to hear your expert analysis.

Well to start since Novas bigs shot 15/18 from the floor maybe we could've played a zone instead of playing man.

Additionally since we were "short handed" a zone would've conserved our players energy since we were short handed.

I hate to say it, being from the Philly area, but some of the fans, underscore some, can be real jerks. I was at an SJU-Nova at the Wells Fargo Center a couple of years ago wearing a red St. John's t-shirt and sitting in an end seat. Toward the end of the first half, a young woman wearing a Nova shirt (I assumed she was a student) came up to me obviously inebriated and said "St. John's sucks," whereupon she took her fist, pounded the top of my head once, turned and walked off. I can't say she hurt me, I was more surprised than anything else, but even a group of guys behind us who were Nova fans were taken back. One of them asked me if I knew the girl, assuming she was just horsing around. When I said, "No," they just shook their heads. What can you say? I don't know that I'd fare much better if I wore a Phillies shirt to a Mets game in NY.

Anyway, regarding yesterday's game, everything that can be said has already been said in this thread. It just seemed to me that from the outset we didn't display anywhere near the intensity on defense that the team played with against Marquette. As a result, we got precious few buckets in transition except when Jordan took it to it the hoop. I guess you can argue they were shorthanded, but even bench players should be able to play tough D. No question, Chris O. would have helped, but there were too many plays where the defense got their signals crossed resulting in an uncontested shot under the boards. Aggressive D can maintain a level playing field when the shots aren't falling.

Maybe instead of over analyzing and criticizing Lavin's every decision, we can just acknowledge the fact that Villanova is better than us. St. John's is a very good team and might be dangerous in the tourney, but Villanova will be a #1 seed and that's not by accident. They have 2 space eating big men in Pinkston and Ochefu. When teams collapse on them, they have very good and experienced shooters in Hilliard, Arcidiacono, and Ennis. Plus, they have plenty of depth on its roster.

Like Paultzman, I wouldn't be too upset if we avoid seeing them again for the rest of the season.

I woke up with bruises all over from that beatdown we suffered yesterday.

Not a good game to drive down for BUT I stuffed myself with a cheesesteak from geno's and 1 from pats ( last year I liked Pat's better this year it was a draw ) I was so stuffed I started falling asleep and had to let nathalie dive half the way home :)

Oh yeah the game. ughhhhhh it was a debacle. Fantastic 1st half but as soon as we pulled into the parking lot and found out Chris O wasn't playing also you just knew it was going to be a slaughterhouse. No way in hell were we going to win that game so the loss doesn't bother me. Thought wright ran up the score which isn't cool because I really like that guy.

Nova is so quick with their ball rotation we didn't have a chance with a only a couple of players suiting up. It almost liked like it was 7 against 4 on the court

Nova is only 1 of maybe 3 teams that I could see beating Kentucky. They are that good

That being said let's remember this beatdown and win thursday and come back on friday at full strength and pay them back friday. Hold that anger in and use it as motivation

Fun, as I look at your monument of 100 point games, I am somewhat disappointed at not being able to find the asterisk next to the title so you could put the disclaimer in the in 2015 the coach did not play 2 of his players that are in regular rotation. I am sure it was and oversight on you part.

Yeah she's a saint. Especially since she had only slept 3 hours the night before. And I ate half of one her cheesesteaks when I got home too :)

My stomach regretted it today

Hope we see them in BET semis. Don't think SH will pull an upset.

And the blowout actually worked in our favor. We left early because I can't witness another rteam putting up a 100 on us so we got to pat's and genos's early and maybe waited on line for a total of 5 minutes combined between the 2 so I was REAL HAPPY about that

cant believe with 12 minutes left in the game we were only down around 10 points i think we just missed 2 bad 3 point shots...and they hit 2 3 pointers..to push lead to 11 ..and goodnight from that point....I also cant believe we got outscored by about 28 points in the last 12 min.....just leaves a bad taste in your mouth...
even though we were down obekpa and branch.....and I am also going to say half a Dominick pointer on defense too as he seems to play off of obekpa so well....he does such a great job on his off the ball defense with obekpa in there....so in my opinion....although on paper we were down 2 pieces in obekpa and branch...we were essentially down 2 and 1/2.....so the fact we sort of hung in there for 28 minutes is pretty darn good.....just hope the committee doesn't just look at the final score and knocks us down seeding more than need be.........brush this off st johns....lets stay healthy...and I truly think we can go pretty far in the tourney if the stars are aligned properly I am gonna put my money where my mouth is.....I will be laying $$ on us winning the whole tourney......hoping for the right matchups......and for our guys to go on a memorable run......I love the way this team is capable of playing when healthy and the guys play their proper roles
.....I BELIEVE....will just wipe the last 12 minutes from my memory of this game

Even with Branch & Obekpa healthy this is a tough matchup. Their guards can go toe to to with ours & we just lose the battle of the bigs. That said, on any given night strange things can happen.

agreed....this is a tough matchup for us...as they match our strengths well...and then some....but pointer not having his "a" or even his "b" game I think was a direct result of obekpa not playing...he has been doing some amazing things defensively but I think it large part it is knowing obekpa is back there so pointer can be overly aggressive.....would love to see us finish off this year healthy....so much fun to watch the aggressive style from everyone......heres to hoping

You seem to know your basketball and I can tell you're a rabid fan...But posts like this are over the top ridiculous...

we played with 4 guys...and had no rim protection which made 2 single digit scoring big men into double digit scorers...we had no chance

I went to Tony Luke's and it was fantastic. Long wait but we weren't the only SJU fans on line.

That looks like how Joe3 would say. Ahhh it couldn't be, I'm Joe, or am I realfan, or will I be someone else the next time? :cheer:
