What are your guys opinions of the Binax home rapid ?

My daughter's experience with Binax:
Tuesday; Negative Binax
Thursday; Positive Binax
Friday; Negative Rapid Test at test site
This morning; Positive Binax with faint lower line(traces of virus)

She spoke with a Doctor friend who said today's test probably means she's at tail end(if she actually had it), and is probably not contagious. Don't shoot the messenger(not you Mike). Make what you will out of all of this, because lord knows I can't.

As a physical therapist I am certainly not an expert on this covid stuff. However, working in a hospital during this pandemic does give me a little different perspective on it than most others. Also, PT does share a role in treating covid patients.

From non masking in the beginning to finally pushing for masks, to science having no idea how to treat this to little by little getting a grasp on it, to having no hope waiting on vaccines to having 3 available now, to ever changing data for the efficacy of these vaccines to the challenges with this new variant, I have spoken to many many doctors about covid as well to try and understand as much as I can. I will offer my 2 cents.  I will also put out there my opinion is 0% political as I am the furthest guy from a political point of view.  That is the truth.

I can tell you masks work!!  People were dropping like flies prior to us being "allowed" to mask up in the hospital with only surgical masks.  Just walking in hallways people were catching it left and right prior to masking. My dept alone 14 people in late march 2020. Once we masked up. 0!!!

Once vaccines became readily available and the numbers started to climb again most to all patients with covid in my hospital were unvaccinated. Numbers ranged from 88%-95% on most days.

Now with this new variant sweeping our area the numbers are climbing again in the hospital but now those vaccinated are being admitted. I dont have percentages but I will try and get them.

So as I see it, the vaccines worked very well.  Then this new variant came along and people had their guards down (rightfully so since the data showed vaccines were working) people werent masking like they used to and now and even those vaccinated are at an increased risk.without masking up indoors for extended periods etc.

So as the experts predicted, new variants would form and this one has changed things up.

The moral to my story is still get vaccinated as it seems the cases could be less severe overall even though people vaccinated are being admitted.  But I dont think these admissions are people boosted. So, as was in the beginning, until the numbers drop please MASK up.

It's not just mask up. Avoid only necessary social contact indoors, wash hands frequently, no handshakes, hug or kisses. Unless numbers decline rapidly soon, in person sporting events will be banned again.

Absolutely beast all very important things to do.  But the mask is the key.  You can wash your hands a million times a day but without that mask in that area with the particles to breath in, all the hand washing wont protect you.  But by no means am I saying dont wash lol.   Definitely do so  :)

So, my PCR test from Friday morning came negative today. I'm glad about that since I spent the day with my 2 children yesterday, and would hate to think that I put them at risk. However I did get a PCR test at the end of last Jan which was negative, one week later I lost my sense of taste and smell, immediately went and got tested, and the result was positive. So I'm not assuming I'm out of the woods yet, especially since I'm still dragging.

My sons and I tested negative with the Binax rapid. They both tested positive w the PCR. I tested positive with another brand that I got from Walgreens. Nothing serious with the 3 of us. Cough and scratchy throat.

We both tested negative friday with binax and yesterday morning with binax so hopefully negative. I worked from home last week so think my odds are pretty good. Working from home this week too actually could end up working from home good part of january the way these numbers have been going

My daughter's employer, a insurance firm, just re-implemented work-from-home through at least the end of Jan.

Yeah my guess is next week we will be told the same thing

I've been remote since it started.  Since then we had two tentative dates where they planned to re-open offices and  we'd go "hybrid" (majority still work from home but facilities open for meetings etc)...

That was Sept 1, and Jan 10th.  Just before break, the Jan 10th got pushed back indefinitely.

Do you like working from home ?

It's funny. I retired in mid 2017 before COVID. I used to love working from home a couple of Fridays each month. Allowed me to catch up on reading and paperwork (and truth be told get a nice run in). Couldn't imagine doing it everyday and don't think I'd like it on a fulltime basis. But at the end of the day, you do what you have to do.

Personally I hate it. I definitely will do a hybrid type thing where work from home mondays a lot of the time maybe some fridays in the summer but I'd rather be in the office and people definitely less productive at home the people that I know in my biz

Mjm - it took me a while to like it.  Now I do.  I wouldn't say I was the most extroverted so, from a productivity perspective it was the same. I do miss some of the casual chats but we've adjusted and found other ways to do it thru zoom or occasional meet up for lunch. Still, others are different and thrive off of being around others.

I didnt have a long commute, but it does give you more time...I've found I'm less tired and don't make excuses at end of day to workout (set up in my garage) before I eat.

my company did survey and over 86% (out of probably 1,500 office only/corporate roles nationally) said they prefer it and our recruiting team is saying it helps to cast a wider net and also attract younger grads etc.

No doubt in my mind employees overall will prefer work from home. Whether it results in better productivity I am extremely doubtful, but then I'm an old geezer. My kids' views on this topic are mixed so it's not entirely generational.

In finance on my side of the biz it's complicated. Personally I need my 3 phone lines that I have in the office but dont have at home. For regulatory aspect if client needs something mailed ( older clients dont like using secure email some dont have iPhones either ) it's a pain because we aren't allowed to print at home. My assistants productivity has definitely gone way down hill since work from home. When I log on I can see who on my team is logged on so it's something that I see first hand but we cant say anything because that's  management issue. I cant even imagine anyone who has kids at home in my biz trying to say they are more productive at home because if I'm not then they definitely arent because it's not like I'm watching Judge Judy. The one thing I will say is if you dont have at home noisy distractions then I definitely can see a case for certain days working from home when you need to review and generate a bunch of reports and need complete quiet. For me personally is when I'm working from home when you have a bad day at work you are actually having a bad day at home and it's a lot harder to tune out work at home

22 months no vacation for me. This is insane

Here's my two cents on work from home. I'll send you a DM by the way because I actually think we work in the same field. But I'm all about hybrid. 2 or 3 days from home. For me, it's a quality of life thing. To be able to not have to commute and to use that time to workout or spend with my son is life changing. Or when there is downtime at work I can literally catch up on chores at home so I don't have to do them at night or on the weekend. That being said, I still do cherish the in person communication at work. I think id go insane If I was at home everyday and never talked to anyone face to face.
