Vaccine

Living in PA for the duration (until We start to allow fans into games).  My wife and I got our first round last week; she had appt. for a specific time at local Rite Aid and was in and out in a half hour (paper work and 15 minute wait, and I went to local county hospital which gave appt for a range of an hour (probably 30 people per hour).  Was very efficient and orderly as they processed individual paperwork one by one-the shot and 15 minutes and out.  In PA, no one complains about the "wait" as you don't know who might be carrying.
The question about a booster in a year is a good one.  My friend who is a doctor of immunology said last spring that in all liklihood boosters would be needed similar to the annual flu shots we get as the Covid, like the "regular flu" will mutate and thus enhanced vaccines will be produced ( we are already seeing this with the English and South African mutations).
my client was telling me today what you just said. He said besically he thinks boosters will be every year and that they are already working on boosters for the SA variant which should be ready in the fall

BTW Eric here is definitely redmen.com member of the year. He got Beast his shot he got my mom on the list she just happened ti get lucky with walgreens this week. BUT for all the arguing we do it's normal we are st johns and usually suck but what doesnt suck are the members here and people like Eric going above and beyond to help people he barely knows. So when things get bad hoops wise and we always start arguing maybe remember the person you might be arguing with might not care and will be going the extra milw to literally help save your families life. This stuff wouldnt happen unless we went off topic and poeple actually got to know other people. So I'm definitely nominating Eric for poster of the year and heck the decade

By sheer luck (checking the NY COVID website daily), I was able to get Jones Beach appointments last week for my daughter and I.  It was a very smooth process, it took all of 25 minutes from start to finish and that included waiting for 15 minutes after the shot.  Shot #2 is at the end of February, I can only hope it's as smooth.

I was going to be low key about Eric but now that Mike outed him as such a great person, I can only amplify what Mike said by about 50x.  Eric helped me at a moment where I really needed a shot in the arm, pun intended.   I wrote earlier today about my Walgreens experience I was on line for 5.5 hours, mask on , no water no bathroom breaks, and with the nastiest old people this side of redmen.com.  lol

I was so pissed because I always put my license on the line to help people.  I even got fired once for not giving a regular patient who was an addict an opioid rx.  So I was really pissed that anyone without insurance or not even a taxpayer could get it and not me.

Then I have this friend of 40 years who would fuck up our political discussions faster than anyone here does with anger and stupidity.   He is in fla where I spend part of the winter, and I lk et him know that Publix is vaccinating.    The weasel gets on and doesn't even let me know he got it.

So along comes Eric.  I never met him.  We've chatted in this forum a few times about the vaccine.  He put my name in where he works and kept following up like crazy.   Over the past weekend I saw a missed call from his hospital and returned it but no o e knew who called me.  I text eric and he immediately said he'd look into it.  He gets back to me and said they just go straight down the list to make appointments.   If you dont answer you're out of luck.   Eric tells me he will see what he can do.  5 minutes later I miss another effing call.  My ringer was on very low.  I tell him that and he laughs. A minute later I get an email with an appointment the next day.  Multiple times eric texts me and says he will try to meet me there.  He couldnt, but then he texts me the next day to see how I'm feeling.

Mike is right.  Eric who I've never met, is already a friend.  Paul is a friend.  Many of you that I get into arguments with are friends.   Fuchsia and i disagree a lot and i love the guy.  Ncjohnnie - rock solid guy who reflects Catholic values in his political affiliation which is diff from mine.

A couple of years ago my family and i started going through a crisis that isnt resolved yet.  I didn't post for a few weeks.  Suddenly I'm getting a ton of PM's and texts, including some from people I argue with all the time, including Jack William's who was maybe 19 at the tine.

So ya, posh may be big east freshman of the year, and Champ may be player of the year, but Eric just kicked everyone's ass as redmen.com poster if the year, against some amazing competition

And this my friends is what makes redmen.com the vest place on the interenet. It's not about threads it's not about hoops even though that's how it all started. It's about Paul and the mods providing a place to not just strictly talk hoops it's about providing a place where people can get together on the internet and talk hoops but also provide a place to get a break from life and talk to friends because this site isnt justa  bunch of posters or members it's a place of a bunch of friends some of whom like Eric go way above and beyond to help others

I thank you guys for the nice comments. I've reached out to some friends about getting on the list at the hospital but one of my first thoughts was to post it here on redmen.com.  I met a couple of you guys at a couple of games which is pretty cool to put the faces to the screen names.   Beast I did happen to meet you once at msg at halftime during a game a few years ago.  We actually had a picture taken of like 7 of us which was posted back then I think by mike.

Anyway, to those still wanting to get on the list for possible call don't hesitate.  I really think things will open up for more appointments in the next couple of weeks.

go redmen and go redmen.com!!!!

Is it possible that Redmen.com is actually all a ruse to get Beast to drive across Alligator Alley so that we can hold him hostage until enough alcohol is consumed at a bar with good fish sitting on a dock on the Intercoastal?

Mike, posting that pic broke the internet. Not exactly the lineup one might see on the Bachelor./media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png

Just to pass along some info.

I have been very curious about these vaccines and once you get them will it prevent you from getting Covid or is it that will it limit symptoms etc.  I know they say we all need to wear masks even after we get the shots and my initial thought was how do you know who had the vaccine so that's why they are saying this. Well anyway, One of the resident doctors in my department received both her doses of the Covid vaccine.  Not sure if it was Pfizer or moderna.  Couple weeks later after her second dose her daughter wasn't feeling well and tested positive for Covid. This doctor out of curiosity went and got tested and found to be positive as well. She was asymptomatic.

Now I know they have been saying these vaccines are 95% effective not from getting Covid but from getting "hospital" Covid and that if you still got it it would be either asymptomatic or minor symptoms.

Now did the doctor pass it along to her child or vice versa I guess we won't know this.  But I will say it's good to know of these instances on a personal level and not just relying on what you hear in the media etc.

Bottom line is keep wearing your masks and be careful in your home if the rest of your family hasn't received the vaccine yet.

Vaccines are a great tool to help prevent the spread.
But they're not fool-proof, especially at this early stage when the vast majority of Americans haven't received one shot, let alone two.
You need a significant amount of the population (70% to 80%) to become vaccinated to really vanquish COVID, or at least its worst effects.

The main reason you wouldn't see them on the Bachelor is because none of them are douche bags.

Great info as usual Eric.  I often wondered if you could be immune and still be a carrier if exposed, especially if you transmit from hand to hand contact.

If I needed to be convinced to keep wearing a mask, your post was it.

Thank you.

I'm not part of the 114 crowd, but to a person are all great guys.   I met Jack Williams fir the first time a few minutes before that photo.   Some people here had put him through hell, suggesting he wasn't a student but another poster (Realfan).  Ralph and Brian have been friends with my brother in law since grade school, and are both terrific. I'd see them on the LIRR platform heading to MSG, and they'd laugh at the stuff I'd say to Fun when he would try to annoy people.  Yep we are all getting older but those guys are each terrific ..

On the vaccine front, the literature is such that they do not know how long they are good for, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year??, no one knows for sure. We may all need future booster shots. Thus, the need to follow all of the other protocols too even after getting the two shots.

There is some thinking this will become a yearly thing like the regular flu.
