Is Newbill really a small forward? He seems to be a very similar player to Harrison, not that that is bad.

College SF can be a third guard.
It appears he has decided to stay at Penn State (terrible decision).

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the DJ Newbill info. That couldn't have been completely fabricated. More likely, DJ, or someone from his camp, reached out to SJU and they told him that he'd have to through the proper channels first.

When Zags tried to follow up, the staff would have to deny. He's a really good player and either he or Mason at the three would change this team overnight.

No idea if it's true or not, but completely agree that if everything else falls into place as it currently looks like it might, adding an impact small forward is this roster's biggest need.

Which is funny, because during Lavin's first recruiting class it looked like we were going to be a team full of athletic small forwards, but it hasn't really ended up being an impact position for us. Mo/Jakarr ended up playing bigger, Amir played with incredible effort but was a role guy, and Dom had bigtime moments in his first two years but really took a step back this year. As a result we've ended up playing with 3 guards a lot (particularly this year) which I really don't believe has served us well at all.

If we could add not just a small forward, but a Newbill/Mason caliber small forward, and finally define Greene/Pointer with roles off the bench, you are absolutely correct the roster goes to a new level instantaneously.

Good points about SF position. I sense Lavin has something in mind for that slot.

Dom??????????????????

He needs to bring in a wing player that can consistently knock down perimeter shots. I don't think Cunningham is capable of doing that consistently yet. Yes I want him but he doesn't fit the mold for that.

Bottom line is Branch, Dom and Felix all need to spend the entire summer shooting jumpers. If not, we'll be playing 4-on-5 for long stretches.

+1

Dom should of been shooting 1,000 jump shots a day (in the off season) for the last 3 years, obv he hasn't . What a shame. I don't get it with the machine that they have in taffner, where the ball comes right back to you when you shoot, these kids ESP Dom should be getting as many shots up as possible. The team as a whole should come together and shoot as many FREE THROWS as possible everyday. Penn state, at de Paul , Syracuse , providence, providence big east tourney, all games we should of won if we just hit our free throws.

Marillac and Fordham knock it off. I'm deleting any further posts you two have. If you want to continue your bickering take it to pm's.

The first and last of those games FT's made a difference, the middle three not so much, on percentage, number or timing of misses it just wasn't a big factor.

Can some one please recap for me.
1. Hooper will definitely transfer!!!!!!!!
2. Opekpa may transfer ( I thought I saw a recent post that he may not)????
3. Greene will probably stay, but could still transfer?
4. Harrison is staying?

Did I miss anything.

Sampson declared for the NBA draft and hired an agent. Obekpa will definitely transfer.

I think there is a chance Obekpa returns.

I think the chances of Mason coming here are infinitely higher.

Maybe not.
Marillac, before you go...what is the future like?
Will Terminus get Rick Rolled in season five?
Will Lavin land a good class yet again? Will Otis turn his frown upside down?

Yes.
Yes.
Never.

Giovanni McLean's prodigious handle and ability to pilot a team has allowed his stock to balloon the past three months.

The 6-foot-1 guard is suddenly a sought after product on the recruiting agora. A sophomore at WCC, where he averaged 16.8 points, 7.3 assists, and five boards to help the Vikes (28-4) earn their first NCAA tournament berth since 1996 this season, McLean has been receiving steady interest from Missouri, Texas State, Eastern Illinois, St. John's, Fordham, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas State, Memphis, Virginia Tech, Quinnipiac and Duquesne.

@byron_wesley: I would like to announce that I have decided to graduate from USC this summer and transfer for my final year of college basketball.

SG from Southern Cal & fifth year transfer upon completion of summer classes.

18 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6'5. Do you mind playing small forward Byron?

There was some talk on cbssports or yahoo that they need to change the 5th year rule. It allows kids who tranfer and sit out a year but still graduate in 4 years to transfer without penalty for their 4th year of eligibility. Kids are using it as a loophole.

Personally I'm ok with the rule. If the kid is doing 4 years of school and actually graduates I don't think they owe anyone

Look at Hooper he already transferred and in just 3 years has graduated and will have 2 years of eligibility immediately.

If a kid does his work and graduates, he should be able to go where he wants for Grad school without having to sit a year.
