@GoodmanESPN: Niagara transfer @antoine_mason has his release, has been bombarded by schools. Cincy, Okl St, Seton Hall, St. John's, Prov, Auburn (cont'd)
@GoodmanESPN: .@Antoine_Mason also heard from Wake, Maryland, Mizzou, Texas A&M, Memphis, LSU, Tenn, Oregon, Va Tech, BC, UCLA, Nevada, Fordham.
Thanks Paultz. Do we have clarity on the release situation yet as it pertains to us?
According to Zach B tweet, SJU can recruit him, but his transfer can still be blocked, if interim Niagara AD chooses to do so. Just my opinion, but doubt he would do that.
Thanks. Hopefully the family's familiarity with the program + the unlimited minutes available for him as a 2/3 opposite Harrison here + the prospective angle of him being the piece that puts SJU over the edge and into the tournament (good buzz for him) will be strong selling points. The competition is clearly stiff.
Adding a rebounding specialist and a legitimate third scorer to team with Harrison/Jordan would fill two gargantuan needs for this roster.
Unlimited minutes? For that to happen, Lavin will have to cut deeply into Greene's minutes. I'm not certain that happens. More importantly, how certain is Mason that that will happen?
Fair point. I guess I should have written "what should be unlimited minutes available for him as a 2/3 opposite Harrison here", as nothing can be ruled out when it comes to the Lavin/Greene relationship. To your point, looking at it from Mason's perspective, there is risk involved coming into a situation where the spot you'd take is that of a senior who has started almost every game of his career. That's certainly not an "open" spot in the traditional sense, no matter how much he might deserve it.
