“He’s probably going to take two more visits,” Jordan said before he mentioned that St. John’s could end up being the only one.

Precisely. Could and probably. I don't understand the issue. SJU is in a bad spot because they are the only visit he has taken and he has not said yes yet because he may take other visits? Really?

We'll see what happens
I sure hope that I'm wrong but I don't have a good feeling about this one

Then fine but don't start acting like you can read into what a kid is thinking about because he did not commit immediately after a visit. I just gave you 3 blatant examples of where the last visits did not ultimately impact where a kid went.

I will answer this by giving my answer from weeks ago. Because of the way the season ended and without a games to look forward to the only way Lavin can make up for that ending for some of you is to land a commitment a week. When it does not happen " you get a bad feeling." More likely it is chronic pessimism brought on by some unrealistic expectations.

Considering that, before the St John's visit, his AAU coach said that he might not take any more visits if it went well, it doesn't look good for us

Why? He said Carter would "probably" take 2 more visits and this past week, 5/22-5/30, is a Dead Period which means no visits so he could not take any visits thru this Friday.

The 2nd and 3rd paragraph suggested that, if he REALLY liked St John's, he might have ended his recruitment

http://zagsblog.com/articles/robert-carter-could-decide-after-st-johns-visit/#more-116222

I read somewhere that he was asked how the St John's visit went and he replied, "good"
Not exactly a ringing endorsement - when was the last time you heard a recruit say that a visit was lousy, disappointing, etc
Well we can hope he characterizes his other visits as not good!

This is my last post on the subject
I don't want to "argue" with you about this any further, but please don't patronize me and tell me how I'm feeling
And, furthermore, our expectations for last season were not unrealistic
Coach Lavin stated publicly that he expected to make the NCAA's last year - so, it's not "chronic pessimism" to say that the season was a major disappointment
As far as Carter is concerned, forget about all of your examples about other players - we are talking about one specific player here
I was merely pointing out that Carter's own AAU coach publicly stated that, if the visit to St John's went well, he might have committed and ended his recruitment
Obviously, he hasn't - you may be right - he may look at other schools and end up picking St John's after all; maybe not
There was even a "rumor" floating on this board that he might not transfer at all and go back to Georgia Tech
It's all conjecture ..... we'll see what happens - obviously, I am very hopeful that he will pick St John's!!
I have been a St John's fan for nearly 50 years - I am as ardent a supporter of the program as anybody!!
Have a happy Memorial Day

Carter sees Chris J and Thomas already here for the two years he is eligible...would surprise me if we were his choice.

don't worry. I had a bad feeling also. doesn't mean we are right or wrong but are allowed to have gut feelings.

I had gut feeling we were getting Kyle Anderson and Jermaine Lawrence and many others. That didn't exactly turn out so well

My gut feeling was that person saying he might commit after the visit and then he didn't. perfectly reasonable to think that maybe he goes somewhere else. Maybe he comes here. Jungle Dave is confident but it doesn't mean your gut is wrong.

My gut told me I was hungry last night. Now I'm home with a 101 fever puking my guts up and wish I didn't listen to my gut and eat so much damn food

Carter not comingTo SJU for dear of c jones would be like King King being scared to climb a building because of a kid with a Curious George doll claiming it first.

We are talking about a player in Carter who has NBA potential. I don't think he is scared of Christian Jones or even Thomas for that matter. He will be a starter almost anywhere he transfers. Possibly even Kansas.

He has probably never heard of Christian Jones.

Thanks Paultz. Do we have clarity on the release situation yet as it pertains to us?

According to Zach B tweet, SJU can recruit him, but his transfer can still be blocked, if interim Niagara AD chooses to do so. Just my opinion, but doubt he would do that.

Sure won't be easy. Follow in the MSG legacy of your father and your brother Antoine!

Thanks. Hopefully the family's familiarity with the program + the unlimited minutes available for him as a 2/3 opposite Harrison here + the prospective angle of him being the piece that puts SJU over the edge and into the tournament (good buzz for him) will be strong selling points. The competition is clearly stiff.

Adding a rebounding specialist and a legitimate third scorer to team with Harrison/Jordan would fill two gargantuan needs for this roster.

Actually, I don't blame any recruit for checking out as many schools as possible. It is probably the last time in their life where they will be feted, wooed, and received so well and positively by everyone they encounter at a college. What I hate about this process is that the X factors is how much AAU coaches think they can extract from the process as "agents" for the kids.

Unlimited minutes? For that to happen, Lavin will have to cut deeply into Greene's minutes. I'm not certain that happens. More importantly, how certain is Mason that that will happen?

Mase has been quoted well before any of this saying he'd like to play closer to home in a major conference. ST. John's or Seton Hall are the only two options IMO. St. John's is the obvious choice. The kid grew up going to the Garden to watch his dad and brother.

As for PT...Pointer would clearly be redshirted and there is nobody that can challenge this kid. He scores, he draws fouls, he boards, he's strong, he can shoot at a decent clip, and he's smart. He shot 44% as the ONLY scoring option at nearly 26 PTS per game that is hard. The two and three are identical in Lavin's offense. Greene will take a backseat to Mase, but will still be valuable as a jump-shooter. Plenty of minutes to go around if they play uptempo. We could easily run out four 6'3 guards. Good luck defending Harrison with a three and Mason with a four.
