Transfers

Kamari Murphy has received his release from Oklahoma State per @NY_Lightning

I'm guessing Seton Hall.

The guy in hindsight we should have pursued over Pelle.

@NYLightningAAU: Contrary to any reports former #Nylightning player Kamari Murphy has no list at this time.

Was Kamari there all through high school? I thought he started at Bishop Ford(?) and then Tiny did his typical cheating when his roster looked thin.

We all got caught up in the excitement of that first full recruiting class, but probably would have been better off with Murphy and Harris, and any point guard not named Nurideen.

He almost certainly going to transfer back to the area and has a sick Grandma.

Personally not a big fan,

He's a plus rebounder, average defender, and doesn't dominate the ball on offense.
I thought that's what you wanted?

Personally I'm a big fan. I think he is a far better option than Thomas or jones.
In my eyes he's a decent replacement for Sampson. The other two are a very clear step backward.
But, hopefully with overall team development, collectively they take a step forward.
I have my doubts though. A lot of them. And 90% of my concern revolves around our ability to score.

Local player, averaging more than 6 rebounds and 1 block per game and shooting more than .500 in a NCAA Tournament Team. I think that we should have interest.

Brandon Austin is officially off the team at Oregon, as well as Dotson and Artis.

EDIT: Oregon is also stating they didn't know about Austin's history at the time of the transfer--even though it was all over the Internet.

Wow "@JakeZivin: Oregon AD Rob Mullens says Oregon was not aware of Brandon Austin's previous sexual assault accusation at Providence"

Then he should be fired.

That thing is a mess. No one from the President to the AD to Coach Altman should be feeling safe right now.

The claim is that the police would not identify those under investigation and did not want Oregon to suspend them at that particular moment so that is why Oregon did nothing at the time back in March even though they knew a police investigation was going on. Huh???

If that is the case then you demand to know names. Think about it. So you are going to play an NCAA Tourney game and you may have 3 unidentified RAPISTS on your roster but you are not sure who they are so “what the hell we’ll just play as if none or all of them are?” What????

Florida is another school that plays transfer game well;

@GoodmanESPN: Florida has landed South Florida transfer John Egbunu, source told ESPN.

It's unbelievable how many transfers there are this year. So many, and Jon Rothstein complained that it is hurting the game of college basketball. He says that kids just don't want to face adversity anymore, and at the first sign of trouble they get out of the situation instead of trying to deal, and it is hurting the quality of the games.

That is true, and it makes me appreciate our senior guard Harrison a lot more. If he leads us to a tournament this year, and even if he doesn't, he will go down as my favorite johnny of all time. I'm young so that doesn't mean much, but to have a kid stick it out and face adversity like a man at a time where kids just aren't doing that, it is really impressive. I commend him for sticking it out, and hope he leaves St. John's after this season a big east tournament champion.

I know this is out of nowhere but with all these transfers, it's just been on my mind how lucky we are to have a high character guy like D'Angelo. After the freshmen and sophomore seasons he had, there were probably dozens upon dozens of high major D1 schools just waiting for him to be released, but DLo decided to stick it out, go get help at a facility for his issues, and come back a new man.

Kids are being babied and it's not just basketball players. I'm only in my early 30s but kids are treated so different now than just 10 years ago.

Don't even get me started on this generation I'm ashamed to be a part of

I have been walking up hill in both directions carry 100lb bags if rice thru the snow for years! Haha I am a grumpy old man. Not as grumpy as moose or mkras though. I do really think kids are too coddled and protected these days.

I think it is time for the NCAA to go back and visit rules about transferring. Perhaps things have to be tightened up. The student has to sit one year, in most instances. Maybe it is time to make it 2 years before you can play at the new school. Hardship, is another area that I think the students have exploited more and more when transferring. Maybe a hardship should have to sit for a year before playing.
I don't know if this is the answer, but I do know something has to be done. When a kid is recruited, the school makes a promise to him that if he does his studies and does not get into trouble, he has a 4 year education payed for. At 50K/yr (tuition and room and board) you are talking over $200K. The student in turn promises that he will pursue that course. It's time to hold these kids accountable. If they don't like the rules they can leave any time they wish.
