Transfers SJU May Get Involved With

We have the scholys. No harm in taking him, if we get him. But if this is all Matt comes up w for our grad transfer big, have to say I will be dissapointed. That said, he won't get pushed around.

If ISU, a consistently solid program, sees something in Beverly, why not SJU? Not the 6'9" banger we all want, but choices are limited it appears. Just one tape, but he looks capable of catching ball & doing something with it in the paint, a deficit for SJU last season.

It's not clear to me Iowa State has offered. Based on the article you forwarded, if he comes here, it will likely be because Iowa State did not see enough in him to give him a scholarship.

I agree with other posts that signing him is probably Ok given our apparent lack of options at this late juncture. Beverly would give us an extra big body to practice with and he potentially could eat up a few minutes. I'm skeptical, however, that Beverly will fill the void we so desperately need to cover.

If ISU is even checking him out, that says a little something. Of course it does not solve the problem, but lessening it potentially is positive. Going into season with just Kante as new interior guy doesn't sound prudent. Btw, did hear they may have an additional guy to look at, but not counting on it.

Couldn't agree more. I think the staff dropped the ball not bringing in somebody with legit PF/C size, but based on the video clips, Beverly would be a useful player for next season.

ISU has 3 available scholys and Beverly said he wants to go there, what would be the downside of ISU offering him 1 for a year? Although, maybe he will get more PT here and will opt for us. Would definately help.

And therein lies my frustration. As of now, we're on the outside looking in for an iffy candidate at best. We seem to be in all out scramble mode. At least the staff is trying I guess.

What's so frustrating to me is I absolutely love our guards. We are so darn close to having a nice team next year!

Paultz, I believe we are still waiting on a Kante commitment which we hope happens next week?

True, but feel very good about it.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure. Sounds like we are assuming it is close to done. However, 18 year old minds change frequently. I almost need to see who shows up on campus next September.

Here is the sad possibility that may occur: we have one of the best guard combinations in many years; we have two dynamic forwards in Clark and Amhed; we have a good bench with Yakwe, Mussini and Owens.
All that would be needed is an an inside presence to be an NCAA tournament contender. For Mullin, Richmond and Matt to not be able to deliver even an average player at the 5 is a major fail imo. Still hooeful but maybe too many staff distractions this season are starting to have a negative effect.

So realize this isn't an original thought, but disappointed with our recruiting for this year. Hope we can land someone solid, and we still could, but as of now our recruiting is non-existent for 2017. We did get a couple transfers I'm excited about, although they were part of the previous class.

Still optimistic for next season, and the players we have are great, but there's an obvious void that needs to be filled.

Non -existent ?????
Guess the staff has me fooled. Simon who plays the 1-3 was a top 40 recruit.
Clark who plays the 3-4 was a top 50 recruit.
Mikey Dixon was the freshman of the year in his conference and should be a very proud important piece in 2018 and beyond.
We are in the final running for an up and coming 6 8 220 pound inside player.
Can't speak for others but I would take such a recruiting class each and every season.

Owens and Yakwe averaged between them 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks a game in 39 and a half minutes. That's an inside presence that's well above what any average five is going to give you.

A very important occurrence this off season was keeping LoVett. I can appreciate the disappointment of not landing a grad transfer big yet to shore up interior defensively & catch ball for easy buckets from our super guards. I am still thrilled LoVett returned however & hopeful on filling that interior void. We'll see on the latter soon enough.

I still don't understand how some here are so disappointed in the staff.

They were obviously thrown for a loop with the transfers of Sima and Williams. Now Sima is being replaced by Kante, but what grad transfer big man that we realistically had a shot at are we disappointed that we missed on?

Fun, If you really believe that Owens and Yakwe constituted an above average inside presence last year then I've seriously misjudged your intelligence.

100 percent agree on Lovett. That was a surprising and wonderful development. I think part of the frustration is that many of us assumed it would be far more difficult to keep Lovett than it would be to pick up a serviceable big man. Right or wrong, when it was announced that Williams was transferring, many of assumed that the staff had a better option lined up.

Touché. Let's hope you're a better judge of intelligence than you are basketball talent.

Well look stupid. This isn't the forum to trade insults because I can't swear and although I can write the balls off a squirrel at thirty yards - and I presume yours are bigger than a rodent's and so would make an easier target - it's less pleasurable for me when I can't work blue, because I work in swearing like Modigliani worked in clay. And I can't be bothered dissuading you from your relentless negativity because I don't GAF if your hobbies make you miserable and in fact it makes me happy that they do, because other people's unhappiness brings me pleasure. And I also can't be bothered explaining nuanced thought to you, because I similarly don't care about your lack of rhetorical skills or inability to read for comprehension. So that leaves us just about nowhere and makes our social intercourse pointless and painful.

What I said about Owens and Yakwe is that together they comprise one serviceable big man. Which by the numbers they do. Last year they had to comprise two serviceable big men, which they did not. This year they're going to be better than any single freshman that might come in regardless and assuming that they improve - which is the basis of pedagogy, which is the basis of the university system - they'll be better this year than they were last. And this year they will have the luxury of being spelled by Marvin Clark, who is allegedly a player, or at least Tom Izzo thought so, but maybe he's not such a keen judge of talent either.

Everyone would like some help in the front court. That none is forthcoming is not ideal, but neither does it mean the sky falling, as all you chronic malcontents maintain. As I've said previously, I find your crybabying exhausting. Not because you're negative, but because you're boring. And there's no greater sin. Except maybe murder, depending on the circumstances, because some people deserve it.

Okay, now I am all messed up. I am a Giants fan and SJU fan and I have been asked to believe the following......

As a Giants Fan -There have been no offensive lineman available for the past two drafts. None.

As a SJU Fan -There were no big men available this year. Not a grad transfer and not even a 3-star that could contribute 8 minutes. Nope, there were none.

I must need better teams....
