Transfers SJU May Get Involved With

I'll still assume there's a rabbit in Matt's hat and I'm willing to remain calm for the rest of the month. But I admit that going after two HS teammates and a juco with pitiful stats is making me suspect the big man may have fallen through.

I want no part of this juco. There are lots of potential transfers that put up the same or better numbers on the D1 level last season. Would rather go after them than be stuck with this juco for two seasons. I can't see this guy giving us more than what Amar would give. The goal should be to get significantly better, not go sideways.

Amar with a mask looking more and more likely.
ST Johns has inked a 6-9 senior forward transfer from Tijuana Institute of Tequila - Amario "El Gigante" Alibegomartinez.

OK the names is long and hard to pronounce. Has anybody seen him play if anybody has any videos please post them

How much Tequila will it cost if we have the money go for it

ALL LEAGUE 1st TEAM
Eric Ayala (PSA), Chris Duarte (RCA)
Hasahn French (CA), DJ Jones (ND Prep), Alexis Yetna (PSA) @NERRHoops @NEPrepBB

SJU target Yetna in good company in his Prep League

Do we have any season stats on Yetna? I don't think I remember seeing any.

Chatter out there SJU may take a look at this Juco big, underwhelming at first glance.

http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Nikola-Scekic/Summary/92822

I spoke with the blogger below last night who used to cover hoops in Westchester NY area & just saw his post. He noted Matic is involved in this recruitment fwiw. He was also at New Mexico briefly before going Juco.

Hutchinson's 7-2, 245-lb C Nikola Scekic to visit South Florida and then St. John's.

Pass on this kid
He started 37 games and averaged 10 minutes per game with paltry scoring & rebounding
We need a kid who can come in and contribute right away, not a reclamation project
Next...........

Agree. The guy's 7'-2" and he averaged 2 rebounds and close to 0 blocks in 10+ minutes per game? Given the gaping hole we have in the middle, we'll need to do better than that if we're going to crack into the upper half of the BE.
Those are JC stats. I'm s not like he is sitting on the bench on a high major program and can't get minutes because he is behind a stud. Hope we can do better. Need a big for next year that provides an immediate impact and a younger big who can develop.

I don't see anything wrong with grabbing a guy with size like that for 2 years. It's only 2 years and his sheer size with mobility like it seems he has could help in certain situations. Add another more bruising PF/ C like Kante, along with his buddy Yetna and a sit out transfer guard. It would spread out classes a bit, add a few big bodies up front, including so,em young talent to develop. I mean if he's horrible, no need but his size certainly could potentially help.
Its not the worst thing. But we really could use an impact grad transfer big if we want to make noise. I like Kante or Yetna to develop for th future. But, if I'm not mistaken, non are highly ranked,. I would only take one of the 2 and use a scholi for a transfer big, or save it for 18.

Who do you figure is going to body up to the Toby Hegners and Sean O'Maras of the world next year? Is Owens going to put on 40 pounds over the summer?

I'm still waiting on the name of the guy that Matt A. believed to be in the bag, because I don't think this juco is capable of doing anything against anybody in the Big East.

Would rather take chances with the PSA teammates and try to run on people nonstop if we are still small next season. But I think size for the sake of size leads to dead weight on the roster.

Don't we have four or five scholarships open? I don't see the harm in one of them being offered to a golem with upside. I never heard of him until 20 minutes ago but he clearly is coordinated. Obviously he's enormous. He catches the ball and plays with his back to the basket. If Marco Baldi had another year of eligibility I'd offer him and from what little I saw he makes Baldi look like Sean Muto and at this point I'd offer Muto.

I don't want to play small and I don't think we're going to run anymore than we have and besides which every time they run everyone complains and start pining for Bobby Kelly and Al Lobalbo. I want to play normal, with a couple of guards, a couple of forwards and an aircraft carrier in the middle. I'm tired of watching them get pushed around. I want them to start pushing.

I have no issue with an aircraft carrier, but I think this one will sink in the Big East. I'd like to see at least 6 rpg from a late-cycle juco recruit. At least that would give me some confidence that he might be able to do something. I just think this particular aircraft carrier's numbers are too paltry to ignore.

He's 7'2" 250 pounds, walks upright and can catch a basketball. Sign him.

Not so sure about the last two.

Yeah he can...lol

Based on this video I would say that if we can convince the other team to pull their players off the floor when we want to use him he can be pretty effective. Also, wasn't this video a Twilight Zone episode?

There are 4 scholarship and if this 7'1 240 guy is the 7'1 backup we didn't have last year, even in practices, WTF is the problem? If he can bang down low for 5 minutes a half he would be an asset if Mighty Matt actually brings in a Big who doesn't wear makeup or robs 7 Elevens.
Most decent bigs have their pick of schools. Ours is a beggars banquet. The prodigal son returned to St. John's and for two years we have had no expectations. Some think Mullin is the salt of the earth but last season our front court was a Jigsaw puzzle of soft players. We need a street fighting man up front. In fact we need two. If we don't get to post season next year we will be singing the stray cat blues and some may have to visit their dear doctor.

Well look. I don't know anything about recruiting and find the whole idea of following the machinations of the 18 year old mind and who Matt A is following on twitter boring in the extreme. So there might be at this late date some HS senior who no one else has recruited who'll come in and make an impact. If there is Paultzman has not yet featured him as an avatar. But I do understand height and I do understand coordination. And this guy looks - admittedly from a 10 minute you tube video - tall and coordinated. He has something we do not have: bulk in the form of a player who plays with his back to the basket. He looks to me like the sort of white euro lummox who kicks our ass year after year after year. I don't see the harm in taking a chance on him because seven foot two does not grow on trees, as opposed to six five wing players who are a dime a dozen. As usual, YMMV.

Sense SJU can get Dixon, the Quinnipiac transfer visiting this weekend if they want him. May be dreaming, but still hoping Heron elects to leave Auburn & SJU gives it a shot.

The 7'1 Juco guy appears to be a backup option, but we'll see. No clue who the prime big targets are for sure, but guess it could be either Kante or Yetna plus someone staff is still working on.

We've come to expect it from a goy like Fun. ;)

I think the Heron story is a red herring.
I sense a transfer guard/forward and two bigs. I don't think we and Dan would waste time with a backup option big unless he has an upside. One upside is if Alibegovic leaves, this guy better serves our needs inside. This guy is not a starter but neither was Amar.
If our losses were Williams, Ellison, Freudenberg and Alibegovic my sense is that they are very easily replaced since none of them were game changers. We had an anorexic front line. It could not get worse.

Vote NO on Dixon. I am only accepting players who meet the following criteria.....

Guards: 185 lbs or more

Forwards: 220 lbs or more

All appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Dixon has to sit out year. Strong chance Lovett, Ponds or even Simon leave for pro ball. Dixon steps into rotation. Think size not as much a factor if Simon at point.

Really need the grad transfer big if we want to go to post season tourney.

Get Kante and his sidekick for bigs depth and more fouls.

Call Bragg from Kansas for giggles

Really disappointing to read this stuff. I feel we are one big away from being a tournament caliber team next year. I thought Matt would do better than the guys I've read about. He still may, but I'm disappointed so far. Fingers crossed.
