Transfers SJU May Get Involved With

He's 7'2" 250 pounds, walks upright and can catch a basketball. Sign him.

I hear that Herman Munster is also available. The problem is you have to deal with his father in law who doubles as his handler. Goes by "Grandpa". Looks like the staff is throwing a line in the water and hoping something bites. I'm hoping it's just post season board chatter, and that the staff has a plan to beef up the front court with more size and talent. I don't see any of the 7 teams that finished ahead of us, and even one behind us, losing sleep over any of the names being mentioned in this thread.

I spoke with the blogger below last night who used to cover hoops in Westchester NY area & just saw his post. He noted Matic is involved in this recruitment fwiw. He was also at New Mexico briefly before going Juco.

Hutchinson's 7-2, 245-lb C Nikola Scekic to visit South Florida and then St. John's.

Watching the videos and looking at the numbers the Name Phil Wait comes to mind. Phil always looked good in warm ups but the speed of the game seemed to be more than he was able to handle at this level.

Dixon has to sit out year. Strong chance Lovett, Ponds or even Simon leave for pro ball. Dixon steps into rotation. Think size not as much a factor if Simon at point.

Really need the grad transfer big if we want to go to post season tourney.

Get Kante and his sidekick for bigs depth and more fouls.

Call Bragg from Kansas for giggles

Really disappointing to read this stuff. I feel we are one big away from being a tournament caliber team next year. I thought Matt would do better than the guys I've read about. He still may, but I'm disappointed so far. Fingers crossed.

Really, what impact recruit did Matt get us Seems he has been looking and involved with players not quite div 1 cal and that many teams are not involved with Could be wrong but not as impressed as some are with him

This can only be a joke. April 1st was last Saturday.

Yeah, it's like it's a whole other game when you have to go up against a defense.

As we saw with Max Hooper. On another note of concern, we have 8 division 1 level players returning. Good, solid core. Unfortunately, no matter the combination in the game, we don't have a team that will weigh 1,000 lbs. combined. Didn't work out too well for us on the boards last year. In basketball, size matters.

I want no part of this juco. There are lots of potential transfers that put up the same or better numbers on the D1 level last season. Would rather go after them than be stuck with this juco for two seasons. I can't see this guy giving us more than what Amar would give. The goal should be to get significantly better, not go sideways.

Who do you figure is going to body up to the Toby Hegners and Sean O'Maras of the world next year? Is Owens going to put on 40 pounds over the summer?

I'm still waiting on the name of the guy that Matt A. believed to be in the bag, because I don't think this juco is capable of doing anything against anybody in the Big East.

Would rather take chances with the PSA teammates and try to run on people nonstop if we are still small next season. But I think size for the sake of size leads to dead weight on the roster.

There are 4 scholarship and if this 7'1 240 guy is the 7'1 backup we didn't have last year, even in practices, WTF is the problem? If he can bang down low for 5 minutes a half he would be an asset if Mighty Matt actually brings in a Big who doesn't wear makeup or robs 7 Elevens.
Most decent bigs have their pick of schools. Ours is a beggars banquet. The prodigal son returned to St. John's and for two years we have had no expectations. Some think Mullin is the salt of the earth but last season our front court was a Jigsaw puzzle of soft players. We need a street fighting man up front. In fact we need two. If we don't get to post season next year we will be singing the stray cat blues and some may have to visit their dear doctor.

Not that there is anything wrong with a Big wearing makeup :)

Totally forgot about him.

Nikola Scekic @scekic1995 has really proved himself as dependable scorer and high efficiency threat at Hutchinson. JUCO big is high major
- Zach Smart

This is the same guy that tweeted the news about him visiting USF and St. John's. He tweeted this in March of 2017, so it's pretty recent. I don't know how he came to this conclusion with those numbers, but it seems like he has actually seen him play.

Frankly, I doubt that he selects us because he is looking for much more playing time but if you are content with a 6'7 center who loses every tap, can't score inside and just blocks an occasional shot then Nikola is not St. John's material.
Who needs a 7'2 240 pound Serb anyway? We'll soon find out but my money is that it would be a high Division 1 program with more need than St. John's at the post position. We should only entertain talent that is 6'8 or shorter, 1 or two years away from contributing and a mid major guard whose numbers may reflect a mid major schedule.

Checked out the stats for his last 6 games this March. He started all 6 but played between 2 and 12 minutes and except for one double figure scoring, but almost no rebound game, did almost nothing. Not sure what the deal is - seems like they told him he'd start - but he doesn't play. Seems like a total scam.

Memories of Louie and Elander Lewis.
