Transfers SJU May Get Involved With

Scekic actually has lots of solid D1 offers to him including Creighton, TCU,UCF, USF, SDSU and many more. Most of those offers are very recent from March. Looks like Jamie Dixon and Gregg McDermott see something in him so that's important to note.

we definitely need size but we also need a guy who is a legitimate interior target on offense that demands attention. Otherwise we've seen other teams successfully just ignore and overplay our guards and jump shooter "bigs"

until we have that legitimate interior option we won't get the most from our guards and will be relying upon making bad shots to win games.

Good point, but I don't think it has to be a star center, just someone who can actually convert from down low (unlike Yakwe and others we've seen).

It's not just one guy we are missing, we can use a combo of a big like Nikola, Kante as a PF/C and Yetna. A big like that would be a guy that I'm sure would only be used vs bigger teams and certain situations. Not sure what people think we are going to land at this point, Sabonis isn't out there. A JUCO stopgap to help out who's massive like that I don't think hurts us, especially if in combination with a bruiser like Kante etc. I'm not saying he's the right answer, but Dixon and McDermott offered so there must be a little more than meets the eye here despite his lackluster numbers. He's a role player for 2 years and massive.

Accept he could possibly be a role player, but so many "offers",including some of ours, are just media buzz. Fwiw, apparently USF really interested. The ones you referenced, I wonder about. I get your point though & hope he serves purpose you noted.

We have at least 4 scholarships to give so plenty of flexibility to look at kids at different levels. Just think there is a clear need to distinguish the need for one more player who can contribute next year on at least the level Owens did this year (or better). Top 7/starter type.

After that fine to look at a little more projection.

Ideal scenario (that is at least moderately realistic) is probably a big that can help right away, another big maybe less likely to contribute next year but can replace the first big in 18/19, and then a transfer guard to replace a guard we may lose after next year. Think Paultz referenced that type of scenario a few days ago. Wouldn't mind saving the last ship for '18, which would probably put us on track to have 4 schollies again for a year we likely need a bigtime class.

Maybe they could get him in a package deal with Shak Juiston? He looks awesome.

PS while I agree the stats are underwhelming at first I thought he would be playing behind other great players given that it is Hutchinson and they were the #2 JUCO in the country this year but there's no on else on the team over 6'8" nor anyone listed as a PF or C who got more than 5 or so rebounds per year.

Maybe their opponents had great FG %...and there weren't many rebounds to grab....just a thought ;)

Well at least Marvin Clark has grown four inches in the past year to allay all our concerns.

Nah, that guy Shak Juiston, who's listed as a 6'7" F got 12 rebounds per game and led the team in scoring. No range I assume since he didn't take any threes so I guess he played as their big. PS hes from Newark. Looks like he might be going to Kansas now that Bragg has transferred. HE would be a great get. Also noticed they won JC National Championship and he was MVP.

This from a few weeks ago from Zags, I'm sure it's been posted before but I didn't remember it:

Juiston is considering Rutgers, St. Joe’s, VCU, UConn, Kansas, Iowa State, UNLV, Rhode Island and Oklahoma. He will have two years of Division 1 eligibility wherever he lands next season.

“Those are the top nine that I’m considering,” he said Tuesday. “I’m open if anybody wants to recruit me, but based on what’s going on so far these are the top nine. I don’t want to close out any new opportunities.”

He's 7'2" 250 pounds, walks upright and can catch a basketball. Sign him.

Not so sure about the last two.

Yeah he can...lol

Despite having won 22 games in 2 years we don't need this type of seven foot two inch 250 pound player who if this video is any indication already looks better than any big man SJ has had since Bob Werdan. We should only recruit 5 star players who are considering programs like Kentucky and Kansas if we hope to be a bubble team next year.

Don't know anything about this kid but we need somebody who doesn't try to block every shot and then leave himself out of position to rebound. Maybe he's a kid who just parks himself in the middle on defense, boxes out and gets boards?

I'll still assume there's a rabbit in Matt's hat and I'm willing to remain calm for the rest of the month. But I admit that going after two HS teammates and a juco with pitiful stats is making me suspect the big man may have fallen through.

I want no part of this juco. There are lots of potential transfers that put up the same or better numbers on the D1 level last season. Would rather go after them than be stuck with this juco for two seasons. I can't see this guy giving us more than what Amar would give. The goal should be to get significantly better, not go sideways.

Amar with a mask looking more and more likely.
ST Johns has inked a 6-9 senior forward transfer from Tijuana Institute of Tequila - Amario "El Gigante" Alibegomartinez.
