Transfers & Recruits Visiting SJU

I was hinking the same thing. W his size he will not make the NBA. Might as well make money in Italy.

Pro contract is always an option but I remember Mussini being a good student. Maybe he will be happy just getting his degree and playing a smaller role down the line.

Don't know about Mussini but a portion of the fan base won't be happy with this ;)

Ha, well put! I like him, and would like to see him stay 4 years. Mostly up to him to bulk up and work his but off to earn PT down the line, and I'm hoping he does that. Things can change, but I had the impression he came to the US/SJU for equal parts education and basketball.

My vision of Mussini is him coming off the bench in a big game and hitting threes with Bill Raftery exclaiming "the dagger" as his shooting locks in a victory. Even if Mussini plays Fredo to Lovett and Ponds' Michael and Sonny, with a tad more room and a stronger body, he can do damage.

If Mussini is struggling to get minutes next year it means both Lovett and Ponds are both doing well which means ST John's is much better than last year. So that is the scenario I am rooting for.

Now you see Mussini getting quality minutes?

NVM, didn't understand your post

I think Mussini will be great for us coming off the bench down the stretch. We not only have several more talented guards, but the kid can shoot despite rough patches. People will be very happy to have him with his ability to play both guard spots off the bench, hit long threes and excellent Ft shooter.

Some of our defensive deficiencies were team-defense related. Mussini will never be a great defender, but I don think he will be playing nearly as much as this past season.

Very poetic, very promising fuchsia.
I hope we both see Federico Mussini standing at center court on Senior night 2019! With a lot of applause and goodwill in the rarefied Carnesecca air!
:)

I agree, Marcus
Mussini is a very good stand still 3 point shooter
He is not as good when he shoots off the dribble or has to create his own shot
Playing the off guard spot, he will be able to spot up, which will make him more effective

In the event we sign the two transfers from Michigan State and Arizona, we only have one open slot for 2017 in less of course Williams can't play or someone else leaves.

Is this the issue with Slice who is limited in what he can do for next year or the result of Slice not believing he can recruit top talent to St. John's or that he has given up and won't return.

With recruitment of Arizona kid to go along with Ponds / Lovett, staff not sold on Mussini being a big contributor on a good team either.

I thought the "Slice" issue was put to bed.

I think Mussini will improve in his second season. Staff also needs to teach how to set picks and how to use them. Less dribbling and more passing. Ball movement is key.

Does the staff think Mussini is two-and-home? H.S. ranking aside, Simon seems like a weird target to me.

Do you see Mussini as a starter or even a 6th man on a tournament caliber team?

I think Ponds is the starter. But I do think a Mussini with a ton of experience as a junior would be better than a Simon who didn't show much this season coming off a year of rust in 2017-18.

I think Mussini is fine as a 7th man. I think Freudenberg is the sixth man, at least for next season.

Thanks Knight
He's (FM) such a young kid undergoing such a huge transition/transformation
How about a little time and opportunity to adjust, learn, grow and benefit from our professional staff?
No one knows the future, he's like able, has some skills, could develop nicely.
Hope so.

With the addition of Ponds and Lovett we should have enough penetration with passes to an open Mussini and Freudenberg.

honestly i said that all year. I didn't think the team used Moose to his abilities. Yes he is slower but i didn't see many plays drawn up for . Feeding off high picks or double picks. The kid can shoot and is a good teammate. He is not a head case like we had in the past. Obviously with 2 more pure ball handlers coming in, the pressure will be off him, but he still needs to feed off of picks.
