Transfer Portal

Sounds like it's the more-$$-overpay-$$-Nil-$$-market.
Insane, but that is what happens when a system morphs from pseudo-tight-rules (for some) to a basic free-for-all.
I'm pretty sure Rick and Mike Repole understood this would be the reality of the 'new normal'.

Doubt guys like this would be hitting the portal with anything less than a very high degree of confidence the waiver will be granted
We'll see. All those undergrads like Primo Spears, David Jones etc are all going to get waivers even though the NCAA explicitly stating that coaching changes are no longer considered valid reasons for changes, really?

Like I said it will be very interesting to see how many get waivers.

Waivers--maybe the NCAA will sell them like indulgences in the medival church.

I’m pretty sure the NCAA said that they are granting first time free transfers but are going to make the waiver process basically impossible. The previous waiver process was awful and I think they want to move away from it completely.

Guys like Jones and Spears may have no choice but to enter the portal regardless if they weren’t invited back by the new coach. That’s unlikely for Spears but is clearly the case for Jones. Also, don’t know if it’s true but Brahman said Jones is a grad transfer.

Estrada has been in college for 4 years so good chance he’s also a grad transfer

The portal seems stacked. In years past it was kids off the bench disappointed with playing time. Now it’s conference player of the years looking for more money. Thanks NIL…
Nil is also a word in English meaning "Amateurish and lacking any draw beyond a subject that is sadly relevant to many of us, education. The player's commercial influence are nil."

NIL in American college football, basketball and any "sport" is really just a sanctioned way to pay amateur players to play for schools with deep pocketed alums and supporters with business enterprises on top of free tuition, board and other benefits not available to your average "real" college student attending college to get an education.

Imagine if you will St. John's offering $10,000 to students who would otherwise go to NYU or Notre Dame above free tuition and room and board to attract more top academic students.
It could quickly become a top 100 academic university and transform its academic image almost overnight.

That will never happen because America has become a hypocritical nation of divided people based upon a person's NAME, IMAGE AND LIKENESS.

None of that is my point, and I know about Estrada but he would still need a waiver. I don't think all of those guys were not "invited back." There are a lot of multiple transfers in the portal that will be looking for waivers.

Branham is wrong, there is no way Jones graduated in 3 years.

Jones started at DePaul second semester of the 2020-21 school year but did not play. That gives him 3 1/2 years. Still tough (especially for a student athlete) but not impossible if you add summer courses.

Since we have not heard previously that he was graduating, I doubt he is.

That's correct on when he joined but that would be 2 1/2 not 3 1/2 years making it even less likely he graduated.

He was at DePaul for 1 full season (2021-22) and at SJU for 1 full season (2022-23). Then add in the second semester of the 2020-21 season that is 2 1/2 not 3 1/2 years.

You feel bad for many of these mid majors especially the one's who enjoy success. Because now kids who may not have been heavily recruited out of HS and have to settle for playing at Hofstra get a few years to excel and then high majors just get to pluck them from the Hofstra's of the world thru the portal. And conversely it is hard to ask Estrada to stay at Hofstra when assuming he decides to transfer he has a legit chance to play for a team and conference that has a better chance to play in the NCAAT then a 1 bid league like the CAA.

I agree but at the same time a ton of kids will look to move down a level and play at and excel at a mid major.

Just about Every team needs to expect turnover each and every year.

Oh there are opportunities for mid majors to grab some kids too. But even then those kids may leave again. See Aaron Estrada. St. Peter's to Oregon to Hofstra to....?
