That hire and the subsequent arrival of Whitehead and Delgado started his 4 straight years of the NCAA tournaments and his eventual $4M/yr contract at Maryland. Kevin knows an effective strategy when he sees one :D!

And, while this board whined and complained about the hire, Seton Hall enjoyed the tournament births......most of which came after Whitehead left. Willard is a good coach.....just face it.

No one said Willard wasn't a good coach, but if you remember SHU was the bottom tier of the big east and the South Orange natives were getting restless with their fearless leader. The Tiny Morton hire that brought Whitehead and in retrospect more importantly Delgado, which bought Willard more time, they then became a perennial 20 game winner / top half of the big east team. I may be wrong, but I think they peaked in the Covid year, what ever Powell's last year with Sandro was. Sometimes you give things time and it works out well, other times you fire your coach and bring in a former star player with no coaching experience. Everyone has different strategies.

No surprise here - AJ getting a lot of attention in the portal

G, St. John’s: At 6-foot-5 with length and a body to keep building on, Storr is among the best jump shooters who has entered the portal. A plus 40% three-point shooter with three years of eligibility left, he’s going to draw a lot of interest and has already heard from the likes of Arizona State, Auburn, Connecticut, Creighton, Florida, Georgetown, Gonzaga, LSU, Memphis, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Xavier and several others.

I have a question for you and other Gonzaga phobes. About 10-12 years ago , Butler went to back to back Championdhip Finals I believe . They did not win either time . At the time , Butler belonged to one of those MiD Western Leagues , not a top league either . Butler then joined the BE and for the most part has been middle of pack until the last 2 years where they have joined us in the bottom tier of the BE . Would you call Butler a great program ? The. Another thing is the NCAA’s the top seeds always get a cupcake draw to progress through the brackets . Once in a while the Cinderella teams win a game or 2 but , usually the chalk team wins . If Gonzaga was in the BE , they sure wouldn’t be running up the records they do competing in a Mid Tier West Coast league . I would have liked to see Iona play the Zags in the tournament this year ., I think the Gaels were a better team than Gonzaga but , little recognition
Butler got lucky with the first stats-oriented coaches.
