Carnesecca made one final four in all those years, and he is in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Rightfully. There are other things to seasons than what occurs in a one-and-done tournament. If success happens it will be evident, and it does not need any one particular event to stamp it so.

I’ve never seen St. John’s win an NCAA tournament game or even so much as participate in a Big East Tournament semifinal.

If we “win a couple big East tournaments” and “consistently advance to the second weekend” he would already be the greatest St. John’s coach of my lifetime by a country mile.

So to answer your question no I wouldn’t be disappointed if he didn’t reach a final four but gave us all the memories you described above
That is a very rational thought, but since I am irrational, I will counter with this: I am already thinking like a spoiled, blue blood brat. 😉

Knowing this board like I do, better than some, not as good as many others, I think our expectation level will skyrocket with the first couple Big East Azz whoopings of Villanova and UCONN. It would not surprise me in the least to see St. John’s winning big every year and going to 1 or 2 final fours during coach Pitino’s tenure. I’m sure he sees that as a real possibility.

Please. I'm trying to relax about all this Rick hype(which I'm in on). and not hyper-ventilate. Lol.

You don’t go to multiple national championship games, multiple elite eights, like ten sweet sixteens just off of your seed. Lying to yourself. They’re a great program. Haven’t won the final game of the tournament yet but the tournament is hard as hell to win.
I have a question for you and other Gonzaga phobes. About 10-12 years ago , Butler went to back to back Championdhip Finals I believe . They did not win either time . At the time , Butler belonged to one of those MiD Western Leagues , not a top league either . Butler then joined the BE and for the most part has been middle of pack until the last 2 years where they have joined us in the bottom tier of the BE . Would you call Butler a great program ? The. Another thing is the NCAA’s the top seeds always get a cupcake draw to progress through the brackets . Once in a while the Cinderella teams win a game or 2 but , usually the chalk team wins . If Gonzaga was in the BE , they sure wouldn’t be running up the records they do competing in a Mid Tier West Coast league . I would have liked to see Iona play the Zags in the tournament this year ., I think the Gaels were a better team than Gonzaga but , little recognition

Did you see Gonzaga’s OOC schedule this year? Or any other year the past decade or so. The beat Michigan State, kentucky, Alabama, and Xavier this year alone.

No major conference team has a streak of sweet 16’s as long as gonzaga. No matter what draw you get, that’s incredibly impressive.

Dude, butler had a nice TWO runs through the tourney. That’s great for them.

That’s not comparable to Gonzaga. They’ve had the most NCAA tournament wins throughout the last decade. If you think that should be entirely attributed to whatever seed they are (in their history they have 4 Sweet Sixteen appearances as a double digit seed by the way, St. John’s fans can probably personally recall at least one of those runs)

Gonzaga has sustained dominance for 20+ years. If your beef with them is their conference, why should they leave it? They get elite talent, they play marquee non conference games every year, they win in the NCAA Tournament consistently…

That doesn’t just get gifted to a program. They are a very good program lol. I’m surprised there are Gonzaga doubters left. They’ve only won several of the most iconic ncaa tournament games in recent memory.

Last five years, outside of their little crappy western conference they dominate, they have gotten wins against:

#1 ranked team in the country
#2 ranked team in the country
#3 ^^
#4
#4
#5
#6
#11
#11

On top of that, in same time they are 14-7 overall against ranked teams during OOC schedule

And the Topic is: THE TRANSFER PORTAL
With all so respect Knight, gonzaga has a transfer with limited numbers who is being recruited by St. John’s. Discussing the strength of their program — to give some context as to why St. John’s would be recruiting a player who had such minimal #s, seems relevant to me.

My post was actually not meant for you.
