Transfer Portal

Size, shooting etc. Good grief.

PG- Clayton Jr
SG- Timberlake
SF- Storr
PF- Portal transfer
C- Soriano

My goodness. This is so exciting!!!!!
I'm not sure Storr will start given we are chasing Ledlum and will have a couple of 6'8 new kids on the block.

He will be instant offense off the bench.....if he stays.
My read is that Pitino is very familiar with our team as he is a local coach. Pitino is back to being a kid in the candy shop now that he is back in one of the top 5 conferences in America.
He can once again go after 5 and 4 star players. He will chase the best portal kids. Something even he found impossible at a small suburban school in a weak conference like Iona.

Look at the players we are being mentioned with after only three days!
Now, I am not going to get carried away by that because it will still be hard to beat out the big state schools with unlimited resources. But we will see an immediate upgrade in the level of player talent we get interest from.

While I hope players like Posh and Wusu make a case to return, I think it may be a matter of pride for a player like Posh not to be guaranteed a starters role. It is obvious Pitino would prefer him off the bench as a defensive force but I think Posh launched too many outside shots to try to improve his stats which hurt the team. That would not fly in Pitino's system. Wusu would also fall deeper down the bench and he may not be happy with that.

I recall in February a few fans made the case for the need for a massive overhaul because they felt only Soriano would start on any of the top 5 teams in the conference.
That reality is now here. I understand the disappointment of some long time posters here but St. John's is investing millions of dollars to raise the status of the program next year and not after 3 recruiting cycles which used to be a measure of talent consistency. The portal has changed the sport that radically and I suspect it will be as important as getting 4 star kids every year going forward.

I dont know the stats but to me it seemed Posh seemed hesitant at times to shoot from the outside especially considering he was off the ball a lot. I definitely didnt think he launched too many shots. I'm curious what his stats were

When was the last
Wow. This is awesome. I’m a fan.

If Pitino got Timberlake & Clayton Jr as a backcourt that would be just phenomenal portal work. Those 2 & Storr (if he starts) would potentially mean 3 starters who shoot over 40% from 3. Has St John’s ever had that?
Yes but before the three point line existed

It depended on the lineup at the time, especially when Anderson inexplicably played Posh off the ball. Even Posh knew outside shooting was not his strong point.
He's a great defensive guard. He's very effective in transition on drives. He was effective in assists.
His entire role was upended by Anderson.
He would be an incredible 6th man for Pitino but he may not have the mindset for a lesser role.

How are we missing what we are being told? Its not about who cant shoot or who can play D. It is about who loves basketball and who has it as a #1 priority. Outside of Joel and Drissa and to an extent AJ Storr, Rick Pitino has been told that no other player exemplifies that.

Its that simple.
You can trust Pitino has St. Johns basketballs best interest in his heart and he wants to win but, you can't believe what you are being told all the time.. Im a big Pitino fan.. But he will sometimes say things to the media that has a purpose and it might not be the truth.. In Louisville it was called "Pitino Speak".. In my mind when Rick Pitino says he wants guys that love the game of basketball.. What he is actually saying is that he wants guys that love the game of basketball enough to kill themselves playing his style of defense..
