I think there ought to be an exception for D1 athletes who experience a coaching change. Why require players to stay at a program where they are no longer wanted by new coach?

Oh yeah, definitely. There should be a set of rules that allow automatic waivers (kind of like grad transfers) after the 1-time free transfer. Everything else is a required sit out year. To be honest I don't think this is really that difficult, but it is the NCAA.

They literally said coaching change is mo longer considered a valid reason for a waiver.

Remember to be fair the NCAA back in March sent out a memo, that Jon Rothstein ended up getting a copy of, to all of its members stating very clearly the new waiver guidelines for considering an undergraduate transfer who is transferring for at least the 2nd time and now needs a waiver to play immediate.

I think many people were planning on using various excuses (mental health, etc.) and might have finally realized the NCAA is moving away from waivers. Remember last year the NCAA gave waivers out to everybody without question.
