Transfer Portal

not suprised cuerbelo didnt find a new home yet but what about jones. There is also another huge suprise out there that is NOT picked up yet Brandon Gardner. You think someone that is extremly high as its claimed caliber player would have been grabbed already. Maybe he is not as good as we thought and/or he comes with luggage aka MOM
I thought part of the problem for Jones is he needs a second waiver and that is NOT automatic approval. Perhaps their is concern for him not getting it and having to sit out another year?

you are correct same for cuerbelo baggage aside they both would need another appeal/approval since they already used their 1st transfer. but the Gardner kid is a little surprising though no?

I suspect Gardner comes with an overpriced tag. No way he can't solicit better offers than what he's receiving.

Pitino not going to have to reach for guys who come with baggage like Anderson had to do.

Zuby is a higher ranked player out of high school who by all indications is a great teammate and student.

Don’t know Gardner but when he opened up commitment during the year and played a desperate Anderson and St. John’s for more it kind of told you all you need to know.

So Jones and Curbelo try to transfer for a second time because a new coach came in and forced them out, but the NCAA won't give them a second transfer because they have decided two transfers is one too many? What an indefensibly horrible organization that never puts kids first.

Yup. Whole system is insane. Of course, money is now involved so this is a version of pro basketball. Kids? We were just talking about a guy who has been playing CBB since 2016. Zach Fremantle has played 105 games at Xavier. He‘s coming back for Season 5.😂🤣

Yeah but there has to be a lot of overpriced kids out there with crazy entourages. I’m curious to how this differs because there’s something rotten in Denmark with the whole Gardner recruitment. He’s fallen off the map. It’s more than odd.

Im speculating but Gardner/company must have told Rick straight up give me the money. Rick said kick rocks and Gardner/company most likely has done this with every program. I don’t think Rick minds a kid who wants money from playing basketball but that the basketball comes before the money.

Zuby is exponentially better for us than Gardner. I personally just can’t stand that 6’8 210 unskilled combo forward type. They almost always want to be perimeter guys in college to showcase for the NBA.

I’m fine with a stretch four with a risk skills but not some undersized PF dribbling the ball to his chest and chucking jumpers.

Well said! Unfortunately this is going to hurt the kid in the long run. Gardner is a kid who is being advised horribly by his parents and advisors who also want the money. It's mid may still not signed the kid screwed up. I don't know if he is THAT good but from what it looks like he's not. Great players have baggage worth carrying at times

I don't know Gardner's story over the time since he decommited. I do hope whatever is going on with him resolves positively.

However, I like 6'9" 240 with a year of at least minimal college experience under his belt. With a team that is filled with shooters (it seems), having an extra inside scoring and rebounding presence makes me happy. I am not sure what caused Self to only play him an average of 5 minutes a game, but I for one am glad to have someone on the roster who is a different brand of player from most of our 2/3/4s. He also has the size to spell Soriano if needed. Personally, I think he's similar in size and speed to Tyrone Grant and if he brings something similar to Grant's consistency or maybe even a Leroy Ellis domination of the boards, I will very happy to have watch this kid play for the next few years.

Eh, I’ve moved on from Gardner. Whatever, the circumstance he’s gone. Zuby is our guy. A good kid with a year practicing with high Major Program. Someone posted Self saying good things about the kid. Time to look forward. Really looking forward to his development.

The reason Rick Pitino saw Gardner as expendable was he already has a more experienced player with the same skill set with no baggage.
Drissa Traore is that player!

Gardner will make his money by going to a mid-major and busting his butt, and then transferring. Take summer classes and graduate in three years, and you become even more valuable to teams throwing around hundreds of thousands for mid-major transfers.

I doubt that very much 😂
Gardner is just not a fit for Pitino, but he was a highly ranked kid that was already signed and we had a lot of room on the roster…so there was no need to push him away either. Until his mother started to push their luck. Pitino had an awful experience with an over-involved parent his first year at Lousiville and I don’t think that is a mistake you have to make twice.

The Gardner unskilled combo forward archetype is likely a thing of the past for us with Pitino here. It’s just so much easier to beef up a legitimately skilled bigger wing like Luis if you want someone that can play as a stretch four.

This is the second reference I've seen to Zuby being similar to Ty Grant. I don't see it. Grant was a big body in the lane but probably only about 6'7" and certainly not chiseled and athletic like Zuby. I loved Grant as a player because he had this inexplicable ability to find a way to rebound and score the ball in the lane even without elite athleticism or size for his position. He just knew where to be and what to do with the ball when he got it in his hands. From what I've read of Tyrone's life after SJU It seems he's also a terrific person so that's nice too. Anyway if we're gonna find someone to compare to Zuby's game or physical attributes, for me we need to keep looking. I will also be very happy to watch Zuby and our entire roster of new faces play!
