Transfer Portal

I can’t verify this but I read somewhere that SJU paid Keita the money because he was denied Pell grant money which was over four thousand dollars a year because he was born in some African country and was ruled ineligible for the grant.
Jarvis supposedly guaranteed the money and a SJU assistant, probably total innocent took the rap.

The Grady Reynolds accuser was a liar and that was proven. She had some serious mental issues and I’ll leave it at that. It’s also wildly unfair to blame Jarvis for what happened after he was let go and players had inadequate supervision. Every single program deals with that stuff and Louie even had a detective or FBI (can’t remember) keep tabs on players at the hotel.

Coach Hurley had Ingram for four years. Jarvis had him for 1. Ingram is a solid guy btw…works for NJ Transit now.

Maybe the Mods want to split this thread at this point. I strongly believe we would have 10+ tournament appearances if Jarvis wasn’t fired. I also don’t think there was a single coach in the country that could have led that group further than one shot from the Final Four.
I would say it wasn't one shot that kept us out of the final four, it was one astoundingly horrific first half by Artest, who.played like he was under the influence (no accusation here).

Reasonably fair assessment of Jarvis' tenure although he lost me when he treated Eric King like garbage.

The irony of that was that St. John’s wasn’t paying him for his basketball skills. They were giving him money to support his family back in his country of origin.
Such payments to student athletes, who cannot maintain any part-time employment because their team obligations are often 40 hr/wk, should have been the type of "payments," or opportunities for the athletes to earn money by let's say endorsements or signings, rather than this ridiculous system of NIL. But, to me, NIL developed when the video game misappropriated for commercial purposes the "images and likenesses" of the O'Bannon players from UCLA.

Jarvis was by far our best coach since Looie (until Pitino, of course), but I think Marilac2 is wearing some rose colored glasses about the end of the Jarvis regime. The team on the court was a train wreck, he had alienated local HS and AAU coaches so much that he said that he was going to stop recruiting HS kids and rely on JUCOs. Did he have some bad luck? Yes. Who knew that Lenny Cooke was going to drop out of school, move to New Jersey and basically never be heard from again? (Not so much with Darius Miles... everyone knew he was going pro, so that commitment was hollow from the start.) Omar Cook should have stayed another year, and that would have helped. And the St. John's admin was a mom and pop operation, without even an actual AD by the end - which was a complete joke. So there is some blame to be spread around. But Jarvis was his own worst enemy in a lot of respects, the team was terrible at the end, recruiting had dried up due to his laziness and arrogance - basically Darryl Hill, Lamont Hamilton and an overrated Elijiah Ingram were all that was left by the end - with nothing in the pipeline. He deserved to be fired.
He stepped up a level from his massive success at GW and Boston University and had some lessons to learn dealing with elite recruits and the wild NY high school and AAU scene. Our insane fans don’t allow for that. Pitino is already being questioned a month in.

He didn’t have to deal with his top recruits going straight the NBA. Imagine if Darius Miles actually played? Or Barkley wasn’t run out of town or Omar Cook stayed and with Marcus Hatten?

i have to beg to differ. I would think Lavin was better honestly. lavin didnt deserve it he was pushed out for mulin

I hope Posh winds up wherever is best for him. If we didn’t feel we needed him we shouldn’t be afraid of him playing for a conference rival. Probably a lot will depend on how badly he wants to stay close to home.
He should go where ever is gonna give him the best opportunity to play make a difference and get a a degree..but to say we didn’t feel we needed him seems a stretch from what has been said and written about. I was under the impression he could have came back if he wanted too.

Imagine all the people . . .

His last year he was 15-13/7-9 with 3 top 100 recruits and Hatten going into the BET. As I've stated often Hatten carrying the team on his back to the NIT title saved his job for 9 months since 2 years before that he had a losing record even with Curtis Johnson. ;) They year in between, while medicore did at least generate a bid. And all these records include the vacated wins. Then he lost Fairfield and Hofstra before getting fired at 2-4. Throw in the attitude towards the job and university leadership once MJ shunned him and it was time to go.

His rosters were a mess once Fran's guys left, despite that "awesome" Cook/Shaw/Cuffe/Diakite class.

I will give you that his defensive coaching was above par and he wasn't set a very high bar so in that vein he could be looked back upon favorably by some. Of course at the time I think most of us wanted more. We got less, mostly due to Pitt and the toxicity of the program after that.

If I remember correctly, I believe Artest said he had a couple of Big Macs for lunch before the game that did him in. One of many post season games from my favorite teams that have shortened my life.

Yeah saw that too lol. One of the guys that said a big announcement coming is somebody I know for a fact has zero info whatsoever which I assume is 99% of the people saying stuff on that hashtag
I sense Noah T is very likely going to commit here, but not convinced all the stuff on Ledlum & Mgbako to SJU has legs yet. They really do need to add some interior strength to equation. Hope I am wrong on the two bigs.

I love the fact that people on twitter says I know of a big signing tommorrow but im not saying. Really? Unless you are personally friends with the kid you have no idea lol. Twitter trolls at its best honestly.

Yeah with guys like that "nasty" juco Grady Reynolds, who lived up to his potential by assaulting a young lady on the swim team and a few others, including the mac aa, who obviously learned a lot in their economics class when they didn't pay a hooker in their room in Pitt. Lived up to his promise to "recruit players with character and not characters".
This is like a crappy Jim Rome or Colin Cowherd shock jock take. Reynolds wasn’t a bad dude and while I don’t know exactly what happened that night I was told by people who were there and around him that they didn’t see that happen. And the “mac aa” Elijah Ingram was a hell of a good dude and just about any coach in America would wish they had a program full of guys like him. He was also the smart one who whipped their phone out and recorded the event which is why the charges were dropped since it was an extortion attempt against the players. But yeah. Let’s go trash former players for hearsay when they were like 19.

I don’t know anything but all that makes sense. No reason yet to think Ledlum has flipped from Indiana though it’s possible. Mgbako was always a long shot and educated people seem to think it’ll be an uphill battle for anybody to convince him to spend a year in college at this point.

As for Kante, a guy like him would make a ton of sense as somebody to spell Soriano for this year and then be his successor. Unless Keita is way ahead of where I think he is, there’s nobody lined up for that type of role right now

Solid post man!

Are you kidding me? Do you know anything about St. Johns? Ok so let's do some homework. https://www.qchron.com/editions/nor...cle_62b73684-3adc-5d5b-b3d7-801a4110ed16.html

Of course the people that were there aka his friends, of course they will sy that. "The defendant, a first offender, has been held accountable for his conduct and has accepted responsibility for his violent behavior,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown." Soo yeahhh great guy back in the day. Worst post of the year award goes to pdcjay

as far as ingram
Um yeah he filmed someone wanting to get paid for group intercourse (such a wholesome guy) .... from rumbleinthegarden "Which is to say, they were not paying her for services rendered. So there's breaking curfew; some kind of group sex action; and then welshing, possibly, on the payment. That's naughty..." Yeah class act dude. Wow im just disgusted by someone saying those two guys are great guys. Yes 19 but not 10,12,14. Grown men adults even. Know right from wrong all wrong.

I believe that Artest food incident occurred prior to playing Maryland in the Sweet 16. He hit his knee running to the bathroom to vomit.
