Yes, but often it takes multiple clicks. It would be nice once and while to say Hopkins instead of "he"........assuming he uses that pronoun.😉

They are intertwined, one doesn't prosper without the other.

As a long time sports executive with over 30 years in the biz I can tell you College sports is a scam... It is a multi billion dollar industry and they have done a phenomenal job of not sharing it with players hiding under the "student athlete" mantra. Honestly surprised it's taken this long for system to blow up. The only reason it's so 'broken' today is that the power brokers refused to address this earlier because of pure greed.

The NIL is unsustainable, asking fans and donors in essence to pay for the responsibilities of the Universities!! Bananas
no one watches G League which has better players…without University allegiance they are not watching college bball…if the Wagner players put on Duke uniforms, fans will watch..

At some point alumni and students will wisen up, I assume. Or will they not care that the players they're rooting for not only not their classmates, but they don't even give a flying F about the school they're playing for. Actually, with the way our fanbase supports our team, they're way ahead of the curve already.

And at what point do the Jay Bilas's of the world stop using words like "student-athlete" to describe D1 basketball players(with some exceptions)?

I think that the NCAA and the member schools need to decide what they want to be, but they'll kick the can down the road for as long as they can while they continue to whack up the billions.

Oh, and don't forget to donate $25 dollars to your local NIL.

So what you're saying is that they watch the best brands with the best players... but you're saying they are not intertwined? BTW, No one watches Wagner either

The current NIL free agent madness is unethical and unregulated.
It breeds discontent among teammates because often the most valuable player gets underpaid and the overpriced 5th year player has no long term incentive to play hard or for the name on the jersey.
It should be regulated to the extent that there should be total financial transparency when it comes to a player's contractual terms for thier sources of income and its independent valuation without association to the school team.
If these players have to meet the same educational responsibilities as all other students, is their participation in school sports considered "amateur"?
If college athletic participation is now considered "professional" status, then the NCAA is ineligible to administrate it.
The only player's earning 6 figure NIL $ are playing power 6 conferences.
Those conferences should just break away and form a "Premier League" with independent paid commissioners and teams budgets set by spending caps.

IMO if the best players went G League no one would notice nor care and absolutely wouldn’t channel surf to find them…they would watch college bball because of allegiance to the university (for now). Doesn’t mean the kids shouldn’t get some compensation..$100s of thousands? No

It would seem to me that most G league teams could wipe the floor with most college teams. So why then would basketball fans watch a college game over a G league game when the product is clearly inferior? Only reason I can think of is either school allegiance. How long will that last? No clue

The whole college sport programs are going to undergo massive changes in the next ten years completely dominated by the football powers. They will decide what sport programs survive,
Ohio State revenues from their sport programs were over two hundred and seventy million dollars last year, going over three hundred million with the next tv contract, the vast majority from football. That money supports thirty six men and womens sport teams at the university.
The football team schedules three early season games vs local mid majors like Marshall, Toledo etc. Ohio State pay’s these schools a million and a half dollars to play that game. This keeps those schools sport programs alive.
The big ten just named a new commissoner whose experience is in sports television, not sports. He is looking for more Ohio St. vs USC or UCLA games instead of Ohio St vs Toledo Many schools will be forced to drop football and many non revenue producing sports and big east non football schools will struggle to keep up in basketball with the big 10, SEC schools because they can’t possibly compete with those schools taking in that much money.

What's attendance like for any of the non-high major D1 basketball teams?

That's the hypocrisy of allowing uncontrolled NIL.
Certain college athletes have ridiculously inflated NIL agreements because of true "name and image" marketability.
There is no mass media appeal to watch the men's gymnastics teams at Alabama or Florida. The opposite is true when it comes to women's gymnasts who the media exploits for their sex appeal.
Bronny James, brokered by his famous daddy, earns 7 figures because of who his daddy is rather than his mediocre basketball skills at USC as a bench player.
The whole system needs to be blown up and compensatory damages paid to all living athletes who were financially punished for minor archaic NCAA rule offenses during the period when the Sam Gilbert's of UCLA and the Waltons of Oklahoma were paying players to attend school.

Sounds good but the van of sites is open and regulate pay then it be ones a combination of pay and under the table. How many people here pay their landscaper or mechanic on the books

Repole is worth 1.6B. I think ill keep my $25.

Playing and recruiting at the same time goes in all season.
Yes the reason behind the rejection of the NIT to commence recruiting the portal is suspect since…..
1. Supposedly our staff has been networking throughout the season and already have some kids lined up and…….
2….. the better players are mostly still playing.

One of the good things about my lack of interest in this years tournament means I get to avoid the mannequin NCAA reps at the press conferences droning “and now we will hear from our student athletes”!

It was highlighted by someone earlier but those donating to NIL will quickly tire of the lack of returns. I love St. John’s basketball but me giving hundreds of dollars (other thousands or millions) and getting nothing tangible and 0 returns just doesn’t seem sustainable. Those who are wealthy got that way for a reason and don’t tend to give money away without some ROI. Give to the school and then get the tax benefits.
