Transfer Portal Mania

He must really love Alabama since he only entered the portal yesterday and they couldn't even contact him before then.
Actually he probably entered a couple of weeks ago. Remember the Portal window opens immediately for 30 days when a coaching change occurs. So when Lorenzo Romar was fired back on 3/7 I think Pepperdine players were immediately eligible to enter Portal. My guess is that is when Mallette did.

He couldn't wait to get away from Pepperdine and its hideous campus.

Had a family friend live in Calabasas. About 10 miles directly in from Malibu, right off of Malibu Canyon Road.

Took that drive to the beach right by Pepperdine. This was years ago but Johnny Carson had a house right near there on the beach. And in Calabasas Eric Dickerson had a house. I remember he took us by all of it. Absolutely stunning views.

That’s what I read.

UT Martin transfer guard Jacob Crews has committed to Missouri

Again probably has been in the Portal since this weekend and maybe even took a visit immediately,

Coaching change, HC resigned to take a new job last week.

F. He went there ? There were some rumblings it could be here. Shocked it wasn’t more money
Not official at all, the same person who told me that a big named big east pg would be looking for greener pastures at the end of the season said don't be surprised if this happens. I just wanted to get it out there so in the case it turned out to be true, I'd look like a genius :D! Listen I don't have an NCAA rooting interest, there's no NIT games to go to, I'll have have is rampant speculation!

Admittedly I am addicted to college hoops, but honestly I have my limits. The current environment precludes continuity, enjoying seeing kids develop, more sleazy agents than ever and the erosion of Low D1 programs.

Obviously kids should enjoy the financial dividends of the sport, but this out of control free agency points to an immediate need for middle ground. Two year contracts seems something to consider as Moose, LMF & others have referenced.

Lastly, we get giddy sometimes when we talk about our NIL inclusive of Repole support. Keep in mind it is not a bottomless pit and guys like MR got wealthy with a return on investment mentality. When an elite program trumps your offer late for a player like Luis, Rick & powers to be have to draw the line somewhere. Yes, keeping a player like RJ helps with continuity, but there has to be a point when you say “no mas”. You also have to consider fair compensation for the entire team as well as recruits. Rutgers just landed three studs and rest assured that impacts what can pay others.

This is a tricky business blindly heading to an abyss. Hopefully sensible, bright people of influence develop a happy medium to this insanity or even a loon like me will seek alternative enjoyment.

Well said. Collegiate sports as we know it are dead. I have no faith in the NCAA, or any other entity, that things will get better.

Why is it insane? Is it insane that the University makes multi millions off the product? Is it insane that RP is making $6+M a year? Is it insane that the University is spending $100M to build a state of the art practice facility? Is it insane that fans are paying top dollar for tickets? Not sure where the 'insane' logic breaks when it comes to compensating players???

It should come directly from the University and not some cockamamie NIL program, that's the insane part!
Money talking about money is always a highlight of this board. I agree, let the university invest in the players like it would new luxury boxes in their football stadiums!

Great point.

Not sure why this post is formatted this way, but the last 2 comments are mine not KG's
Companies have a pay scale based on the market/supply and demand. They are constantly adjusting. This pay scale is just higher. Pro leagues have a more limited free agent pool because of multi-year contracts and artificial limitations to the free market like rookie pay scales, salary caps, and luxury taxes. This is new for the NCAA and there are no guard rails yet. I envision a future state of multi-year contracts for players, salary caps and other limits. Enter the employment issues, unions, CBA’s and agents. At least it wil be above board and out in the open.

No issue with kids getting non-professional $ but The University’s are the product…without the university nobody would pay to see a single college kid.

If and when all of the above happens, it'll just be another pro league. And I don't follow pro sports, so I'll just go watch local high school games.
