Transfer Portal 2022

Random thought

Rumor comes out that Curbelo going portal > Does> Strong rumor SJ likely landing spot and no mention of school visits> A week goes by and pops for Johnnies

Jones pattern seems quite similar and one wonders if SJ strikes gold in next several days. 🙏 🤞
Your usually on point with this. Hoping your right

Just passing it on. Don’t know if truth or not. He is from Illinois abs covers Illinois hoops though so he has no motivation to be right. It’s not a fake account either.

I think we should be getting some good news soon from what I hear.

Once Jones commits the staff should turn it's focus to Jaykown Walton to round out the roster. I think Mathis could fly the coop although not a given.

Curbelo, Jones and Walton would be a Grandslam offseason. Big credit to Van Macon and Shoes.

The one question I have is whether we have the right head coach in place to make the most of all our newfound talent. We shall see.

I don't think the staff takes both Walton and Jones. Very similar players. Not going to be enough minutes to go around.

My guess is if they land Jones this weekend, that last scholarship is held for a shooting specialist that can give you spot minutes (like a Tariq Coburn) or held for a late instant impact guy that may have interest (like Alvarado last year).

I could be wrong though, but just doesn't make sense, IMO.

I think they will be pretty comfortable with Jones at PF, but if an impact big appears I think they go full force for him, Jones plays SF, and Pinzon (or whomever other posters think will be the SF) goes to the bench.

But other than that, I think a specialist like you mention.

Others may disagree, but I'm super comfortable with Curbelo, Posh, Pinzon, Soriano, and Jones as the starting lineup.

Walton is more of a combo guard (plays mostly the 2/3) than Jones. Jones would be playing more of Champagnie’s role from last year. Walton also is a better 3 point shooter with a more refined stroke.

That being said Jones committing here could scare Walton off anyway, but we’ll see. If not him I agree the last scholarship should be used on a shooting specialist.

Should hopefully be an easy sell for the staff. “Sit in the corner while our two all American caliber PGs create and kick it out to you for open shots.”

I would imagine that Posh, Curbelo and Jones would be our top-3 in minutes played. The problem is that all three have been below average outside shooters. Since we're not going to expect the five to be a shooter, one of Wusu, Pinzon or Storr could earn major minutes by shooting the rock well. Right now, I am having trouble imagining where Mathis (another below average shooter) fits in.

I am much more optimistic than this post, just highlighting the coaching challenge this roster would present.

Maybe as a defensive specialist
