Transfer Portal 2022

What does tampering even mean? There are no contracts being broken in these cases. Kids are finally exercising the power they should have been granted 75 years ago and that is a great thing and should be applauded by anybody who cares about fairness. Jones doesn't want to be at DePaul anymore, and thinks he can improve his situation being somewhere else. Good for him for exercising his power, no matter where he ends up.

I don’t understand the trepidation with wanting a player inside the BE. If he’s in the portal and, especially, expressing an interest in joining the program and we haven’t circumvented any kind of rule…why wouldn’t we try to get him on board? Because of some supposed etiquette that’s been breached before by other, less upstanding coaches/programs that has nothing to do with now?
Would rather keep the good players in the Conference (especially if they pick us).

True or False:

If Jones commits to St Johns, St Johns joins Nova and Creighton as 1 of the top 3 teams in the big east.

My answer: True
I would think in the top 4 or 5. With the addition of Curberlo and Jones, that's 2 top 50 transfers. That's the equivalent of landing one 5-star and one 4-star caliber player according to https://evanmiya.com/.

Potential lineup of...

G - Curberlo / Pinzon / King
G - Posh / Mathis
G - Wusu / Storr
F - Jones / Stanley / Traore
C - Soriano / Nyiwe

If that happens my BE based on today's roster and Jay Wright news would be.

1. Creighton
2. Villanova
3. Xavier
4. St. John's
5. UConn
6. Marquette
7. Providence
8. Seton Hall
9. Butler
10. DePaul
11. Georgetown

While Jones only shot 30% from three last year, it was hist first year with any significant PT and believe if he gets the kind of good looks he'd get with us, he could easily become a 35% guy. He did take more threes than anyone on our team other than Champ.

With Wright gone, I dont see plugging in Neptune and Nova just hums along seemlessly. If we get David Jones, IMO its Johnnies/Xavier/Creighton as the top 3 big east teams.

That or maybe it wasn't the rock they wanted to die on after SEC, ACC, AAC, MAC, PAC 12, Big 12 and Big Sky followed the B1G's lead in the months that preceded the BE decision.
You are probably correct. My point really stemmed from the desire to put the devil and UConn in the same sentence.

Oh yes without a doubt, I watched a few DePaul games, he has a good looking stroke and he's just now hitting his potential. Losing Wheeler and getting a player of Jones caliber, that's only a sophomore, is probably the most realistic best case scenario unless they could have got Brandon Gardner to reclassify, which isn't happening. Jones was set to be the best player and have a major role on a Big East team many were thinking would be decent next year. Getting a guy like that to come in and be the 3rd or 4th best player on your team is not a small feat. Hopefully the staff can close.

Not going to argue with that. I could easily see it. You're right, Nova doesn't just have a ton of NBA level talent where any coach can plug and play in there, I could see your scenario of Nova dropping to a mid-tier BE team. I think they return enough vets though to still be top tier this year, that's why I still have them as the 2nd or 3rd best team in conference, we will see though.

College game needs to be careful what they wish for…free agency has been great for the athletes but, the transient nature of rosters, has hurt. The moment college starts to feel like G-League could be the start of a decline.

I wouldn't feel bad if Jones was at UConn or even one of the newer schools.
I do feel bad that it's DePaul. The poor get poorer.

Stubblefield seemed to be getting things going…I believe they had some good recruits coming in

This is silly. College basketball is now like NBA free agency. To think we wouldn't go after someone who put their name in the portal because he is in our conference would be just further hamstringing a program that is already far too hamstrung.
