THIS Season (formerly Next Season)

Hope we throw Mullin a bone and schedule a bunch of cup cakes early. Get as many wins as possible under his belt to help recruiting future kids.

We play in Maui Thanksgiving with the likes of Indiana, Kansas, UCLA, etc.

Not much time prior for cupcakes.

Are there games on Thanksgiving day?

I don't know but I know it usually falls in and around Thanksgiving.
Just realized it would really suck if Diallo chose Kansas and we played them out there :)

Indeed, thanks for the info.

Freshman 7-Footer Adonis De La Rosa to Transfer from St. John's (UPDATED)http://zagsblog.com/articles/st-johns-lands-missouri-state-transfer-ron-mvouika/ … @joshua_newman

I expect others to not return for next season.

"Others"? We have more space cleared than we need. The staff should be actively trying to keep everyone left on the roster. Both Jones and Balamou graduate after this season. Amar is a good looking four year player that I'm sure the new staff is happy to inherit. CO and Rysheed are key to the next season. The rest are walkons that will be a big asset in practice and for continuity the next 3-4 years.

Its a new era Marillac. Guys like Balamou and AA have yet to prove that they can contribute at this level. I expect that Chris, Slice and Matt can easily find upgrades over those kids if they choose to severe ties, Having said that, I would keep Balamou since he's on schedule to graduate this year and we wouldn't want to alienate the folks at OSNA, We most certainly don't need walk-ons for continuity. Out with the old and in with the new!

Are you suggesting that we not have any walk ons, or just not the ones that are already here? Every team has walk ons. Two of ours were good enough to get scholarship offers at a lower level. I'm sure they are an invaluable resource at practice.

Of course I'm not suggesting we don't have walk-ons, although I don't ever again want to have to rely on them for anything more than garbage time minutes. What I'm saying is that we do not need walk-ons for continuity, That continuity should be in the form of our 4 year players, for the most part. By "out with the old and in with the new", I meant the philosophy, not the players.

Maui games are usually played on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, just before the holiday. Of course, if ESPN ever wants to change that, they will be accommodated.

I believe we will also play at Long Beach St. either just before, or just after, that tournament. That's why we played them at CA last year, to ensure we'd get first crack at a game against them around Maui time.

We have five scholarship guys coming back. All but one of them (Amar) will either graduate or (likely) declare for the draft. Jones, who I expect to transfer, will almost certainly not get his scholarship renewed for a fifth season even if he stays. We have all the space we need and all the space we should use already cleared for us. ADR was a unique situation, as he didn't really fit the style Mullin wants and he would have taken up a scholarship four more years and hurt the balance in the process. Jones, Balamou, Jordan, and Obekpa are all expiring contracts to an NBA guy like Mullin. Valuable place-holders for a staff with an eye on the future and not just 2015-2016.

As for the walkons, that is really one of the only things Lavin got consistently right during his tenure. The difference between having Jamel White and Liam Biesty v. Henderson, Stewart, Lipscomb, and the PF from LA is pretty huge. Not to mention they all seem like really awesome kids that love the program and cheer hard for the starters. There is something to be said about competitive practices and an extra 3-5 guys that know the rigors of the Big East, college life, and can help new guys get acclimated in drills, practices, conditioning, films, school, etc.

I don't see Amar going anywhere. He has been active on Twitter trying to recruit kids. He plays hard, has length and can shoot some. He seems to fit well into this new style of player we are getting.

Yes they jumped to D1 in 2013. Went 18-11 last year.

Didn't they knock off Michigan on the road last season?

The school's name is the "University of Incarnate Word";

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is a private Catholic university whose main campus is located in San Antonio and Alamo Heights, Texas, United States.

Founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, the university's main campus is located on 154 acres (0.6 km2). As of 2012, the university was the largest Catholic university in Texas and the fourth-largest private university in Texas.

They won at Nebraska. It was NJIT that won at Michigan.

Replacing Dom, Harrison, Greene and Branch is a bitch.
Diallo, Williams, Ellison and Owens would be a hell of a start,

I agree the task is very difficult though not impossible.
We lost Dom and Phil up front, as Phil often played the 3 in a three guard line up, but already added Sima and Willams. There may be more to come but without anyone else the replacements are very good and add a completely different dimension. If we add either or both Ellison and Diallo we will be better off up front next season. In addition I expect improvement from Chris O , Felix and Amar.
As for the backcourt Samir and Ron are not enough to overcome the loss of Dlo and Jamal but are a solid start. Add Mussini or Lovett , if eligible, or another rabbit that Coach Mullin pulls out as he has recently done and we will be fine.
I also expect big things from Rysheed whose attitude has been great.
Be patient everyone as things are falling into place one by one.

They won at Nebraska. It was NJIT that won at Michigan.

As was mentioned earlier, they won 18 games last year, and made the CIT.

They've lost their 20+ ppg scorer in Livingston, but everybody else from this year's team should be back.

Agree that Amar not going anywhere. Not as high on him and Felix as many. Think they both have very limited ceilings. Felix high on athleticism and low on skills. Amar just the opposite. But if anyone can get the most of of them it will be Chris.

I think the difference is the amount of time they still have in the program. Felix has one year but Amar has three.

From what I saw, I expect Amar to be an important part of the rotation in his second season, but I think Felix will have (rightfully) a more limited role.
