THIS Season (formerly Next Season)

As the euphoria of the Mullin hire, the swift moves to make two great hires as assistants, and a few good commitments, the reality of how much work needs to be done is settling in. Nothing is instantaneous, as least not as immediately restorative as it appeared it would be.

On the plus side though I saw three long time friends, two who are sju grads. All expressed interest in renewing season tickets for next season, and two have them have been long gone. Better attendance will fuel better recruiting, and the city is excited about SJU again. For once, a great team appears that it will trail the resurgence of fan interest, which is simply amazing.

Hope no empty seats at CA next season. Fuller MSG.

Think Marquette last season.
Total rebuild.

Really? That feels like the disappointing news of today talking. I know it seems like we may be headed for a somewhat mediocre season, but Marquette didn't have a player as good as Rysheed Jordan should be this year on offense and they didn't have someone as good as Obekpa on defense. Or am I giving those two guys too much credit?

So lost 2/3 Lavin commits, both were SGs, anyone know status on Doughty? from his output, looked productive on the offensive end from what people posted (no idea on the level of comp though).

ADR...? anyone hear if he will suit up next year and actually see court time?

So for guard in the stable right now- Jordan, Felix, Doughty (?), henderson/stewart (still walkons?)

That our state of play right now?

I agree. Im sure Mullen has other irons in the fire. Im not saying I want us to be contending for the BE title next year . But I would like us to be competitive. It will be interesting to see what next years lineup will be ,when all is said and done.

Curious how you reach that conclusion. Currently, a transfer guard away from a reasonable starting 5 albeit not a particularly deep roster (and I'm not expecting Diallo).

One of the survey question put out by the Ath Dept asked how many regular season wins were expected in each of the next five years or so, based on a 30 game schedule. I said 18 for next year going to 24 or 25 in five years.

I'd be curious to hear what everyone else said.

I think a big push for Tarrant is coming. He can give 14 ppg at this level, and then clears the way for Heron or other big-time recruit to be a starter. Doughty if eligible might be more of a work in progress than we can afford right now. On paper a nice scorer, but only managed 14 against Lincoln, which lacked the star power of previous seasons.

Agreed.

I will be happy with a /500 record next season. I have a feeling the 2016 class will be top notch.

.500 next season may require a minor miracle without a few more players who can contribute immediately.

I'm just looking forward to Sima taking lumps early so when we do get big-time guards in here he is ready to run with them. I feel good about Williams, though. Need to bring in some eligible transfers who can give double digits at SG and F.

Next year, I would say 13-15 wins is expected. I would say around 9-3 in out of conference games, and about 4-5wins in the Big East.

Every year after that, a minimum of 25 wins/season is what I expect.

I understand that that is a big jump, but we have been mediocre for way too long, and in today's game, we can't afford another 4-5yr rebuilding process.

Amar will have a big improvement from last year and will get more minutes. He has the body and his shot looks good. He will be good once he gets more comfortable.

He is not soft in attitude as he was one of the few guys last season that looked to hit the offensive boards but he did look a little immature physically. 6-8 months could be big for him with the right training. And you'd like to make the comparison that Mullin could really help him to elevate his game.

Lincoln may have lacked the marquee names this year, but trust me they did not lack talent. Especially their dynamic freshman backcourt of Bourne and Pearson. Pearson is someone that I am sure the staff will be keeping tabs on. He could be the next great guard out of Lincoln. Having said that, I have no idea what to expect from Doughty next year.

Plus everyone would have been keying on Doughty
