THIS Season (formerly Next Season)

I
Yup!

@franfraschilla: Coaches: Your first year in a rebuilding job is a "survival year." Don't worry about wins as much as laying down a foundation for success.
. Really nonsense, you lay a successful foundation by worrying about wins. Mullin did not come here to lose, I understand there will be real growing pains but believe me all our coaches and players will "play to win the game."

He is basically saying that whether they win 14 or 17 games the first season it is not what Mullin should be judged on. Did you really take that to mean that Mullin will tell the kids don't worry about winning or losing either way after the game I will take you all out for ice cream?

Like him or hate him I think Fran has done a good job from the the things I have read of trying to protect Mullin this first season.
Thank you.

Maybe I am way off on this, but I do get the sense that Fran wants Mullin to succeed here.

But no sprinkles, sprinkles are for winners.

I don't think there is any question Mullin is "laying a foundation". He immediately resolved the imbalanced roster problem that could have perpetuated itself in 4 years. Everything we (you) complained about Lavin included the inability to balance a roster, to have a forward plan beyond the immediate, and to build upon successes by specifically targeting what he was missing. We ended up with 6 guards out of the top 7 players, and a barren roster for 2015-16. So, yea, I think Mullin IS building a foundation, balancing out graduation years right away, and adding players who can help out right now but who won't be the level of talent he will go after in future years.

In a podcast with Zagoria he said that he has been rooting against us but now that Mullin is here, he has lifted his curse.

Understandable. Whether firing was justified or not human nature to have hard feelings.

Sorry to all, I get what what FF was saying and I think it is nonsense. I will look at the team as they play and judge the season. If I think we should win 25 AFTER seeing the team play I will not consider 14-17 a success. Just my way of looking at things. I love the Mullin hire and love what he and staff have done to date but I do not believe this year should be judged by anything but how the team performs vs. their potential so I believe any definitions of success based on anything other than that are nonsense.

"Nonsense"! :)

Agree with this 100%. To say we are going to win x amount of games right now makes no sense. We could win 20. We could win 10. Let the players practice. Gel. Learn a system and let's see how they execute it. This team has potential and time will tell what the x number of wins are going to be. I do think it will be a fun team that will score based on the potential amount of shooters we have. But nobody can say who we are going to beat and who we are going to lose to just yet.

One very important question for next season is will we see Mike Maher at CA for the first time this decade?

I think he will be tempted to brave the sauna like atmosphere of the upper section of the arena to see the new look Johnnies.

Haa. Not sure. Depends if I ever come back from South America. I seriously think I need to retire and buy a hotel down here in Huacachina.

This oasis in the desert stuff the last couple of days has me seriously less stressed and sleeping easier. I don't want to leave and all the restaurants play bob marley

http://www.huacachina.com/en/intro/

wow looks spectacular. Might look into this for my honeymoon in all seriousness haha

to keep on topic for the mods: I think we'll win 14 games next season. Learned my lesson the hard way getting overly-excited with a freshman laden team a 4 years ago

14 isn't bad sirvoo
I think I text earlier on this post I see 15 ish wins but would take 0/zero Ws because I'm so pleased with:
the new coach, new staff, new excitement and the new direction we are headed - this program is moving back to prominence!
I don't really care about Ws this first season. Big times are ahead...and those posters with sour grapes, well, I know a few wineries out East ( Long Island) that would buy them - for a discount of course
:)
all the best

@JonRothstein: Only 38 days until college basketball season officially begins...... #countdown

Not that you're eagerly awaiting for the season to start or something my dear Knight!!!

Psyched! :woohoo:

In my heart of hearts I believe the few negative posters herein are going to be stewing in their caustic juices - and I'm not necessarily referring to 2015-16 but future years as this potential juggernaut unfolds - as has been posted by realistic/ optimistic folk:
We will not win all recruiting or game day battles
BUT WE WILL WIN OUR SHARE.
Take it to the bank...oh wait it's after ten pm...take it to the ATM

3 Gens,
Love your consistent positive outlook.
Let's go Redmen! Clap, clap, clap clap clap!

I'll assume by 'clap' you weren't referring to STDs (an issue for those of us 'older' and learning again how to date)
No offense intended :)
Seriously I like your pleasant outlook and there's a lot to be pleasant about.
Have a nice day!

I have zero expectations for next season. Way beyond wins, I am hoping we have a few bright spots that will become solid rotation players in year 2, 3 or 4 as we build a top 25 program. If a couple of the recruits show that type of ability to be solid contributors on a ranked team, I'll be more than happy.

@Joshua_Newman: A loyal reader tipped me off that the Athlon college hoops preview magazine is out, so I went ahead and scooped that up........

@Joshua_Newman: Seton Hall picked eighth in the Big East, St. John's 10 (last) in the Big East, Rutgers picked 14th (last) in the Big Ten.

WE SHALL SEE I say we will be in the top 1/2 when all said and done

I believe a big difference between this team and Lavin's first recruiting class, is that on paper, the current squad seems to have more shooters from the outside. I know every one will not pan out the way we want, especially in their 1st year; but you would think that at least 2 will be consistently good from outside. Athletically, Lavin's team is most likely far superior; but I'd take shooters over running and jumping.

We're a lot deeper than Lavins first year. And we have some players w exp. I think we will be better than people think. I'm hoping for middle of the pack BE. We didn't finish last place Lavins first year and we could barely field a team .

I actually love that we are picked last. I happen to think we will be better, but I don't mind keeping the bar low for year one.
