The NCAA Tournament Thread

I thought Clingan was terrific tonight. The kid just turned 20 and is only a soph.

Castle, though, give me that kid in the NBA. He’s got it all now. He could be scary good.

I cannot believe how far he’s come this season.
If he could fall to the Knicks somehow…

Edey is going to dominate Clingan. Clingan very little offensive game outside of being bigger than most. Edey will eat his lunch. Problem is the other four guys pukon throws out there will embarrass purdue. Their guards can shoot but no chance they can keep pace with Newton and castle.

We played UConn within two possessions in the BE tournament. Anderson beat them when UConn had lost 5 in a row. If you don’t see the difference you should find a different sport to follow. We beat a good Seton Hall team (who also should have gotten an invite) by 17 points. This team was playing very well at seasons end and wound have won at least one or two games in the Dance.

Your assessment of the teams chances are almost as poor as your assessment of Danis Jenkins, the best lead guard this program has had since Marcus Hatten.
We took Marquette to OT in the Big East tournament last year and lost by 2. We lost by 2 Marquette a week prior as well.

This year’s squad had absolutely no ceiling. It was not a good team.

Let’s look ahead.

I think sanogo and Clingan were better personally.
Different college game now I’m not discounting your pic and I’ll definitely give Dinkins Gtown consideration but it’s going to be tough for me for anyone to beat Shaq Roberts. Just on the headliner alone

I meant in terms of uconns the last two years. Shaq and anyone probably wins out

23 on KenPom, 16 on Torvik, 32 "NET". But we weren't a good team? Sure...
We were great. They will tell tales for years about the best NIT 2 seed that never was.

1-7 against the tournament field. 1-2 against the First 4 out. Most enjoyable year Pitino ever had coaching. Nobody beat the absolute sh*t out of quad 4 teams like that squad! The book writes itself.

It’s a true shame we couldn’t have the whole team back. I know they could have made the last 8 out this time. A 1 seed in the NIT would not have been an unreasonable goal.

Looking in the rear view mirror it's a shame. We had a real strong team this year. Well coached, good veteran players, depth, fan support. A guy with an incomparable motor and leadership skills, will to win, big balls and just the right mix of scoring and play making. Toe to toe with Ucant 5 of 6 halfs. In the end taking too long to jell, the curse and the selection committee proved just to much to overcome.

This entire tournament is complete BS. EVERYTIME I see Yukon beat the crap out of a team and remember how tough we played them it just pisses me off. We wait years for a competitive team, win 6 of our last 7 and have a team that can actually win some games in the tournament ( not Mullins team who didn’t even finish at 500 in conference) and we don’t get an invite??????

Clearly, even with Yukon, the league has an image problem and a commissioner who is not up to the task.

Once again, I call BS and hope the conference ADs get their $hit together and find a legit commissioner who will bring more cred to this league.
Silly dead on right re Ackerman. A total lightweight. With no credibility. She still has not acknowledged Hall winning NIT. Nor used that win to shine a spot light ion how badly the Committee botched the invites this year.

I have said my piece that we passed the eye test with the dominant win against Seton Hall and the battle against UCONN. It is a shame we were left out but time to move on to next season.

That said this is as good a final matchup that you can ask for. The two best teams this season. Should be entertaining.

I would be curious to climate Castle with Boughnight and Hawkins from last year .

The Hurley formula includes getting McD All Amercan 1 and done Guards every year .

Just 1 to go with his holdover players .
Pitino would do well to grab a potential lottery pick guard for us .

If Hurley can do it , so can Rick

You're entitled to the opinion that we weren't a GOOD (no one said Great) team. But the numbers don't lie. Finished the season as a top 25 team in the metrics. Had the team clicked earlier, they don't lose against Michigan, Dayton and BC. Your boy Jenkins was a missed foul away from being 2-0 against 3 seeded Creighton when UConn got smashed in the same building. Pounded other bubble teams when we needed to in Hall and Butler. The Big East had a 1, 2 and 3 seed. It's not like they went 1-6 against bubble teams in the conference.

Give the team some credit, they finished strong. November and early December is what cost them a bid.

He sometimes makes it hard to hate him
UConn is BE gold standard like it or not, of course things change, but Re winning, recruiting HS and portal guys, coaching staff and offensive and defensive results, hard to argue. I can’t stand them and their classless fans, but give them their due.

  • UConn is one win away from its sixth national title in program history, which would tie North Carolina. Only Kentucky (eight) and UCLA (11) have more.
