Penalties and measures prescribed by the panel are below:

• Five years of probation from March 6, 2015 through March 5, 2020.
• Vacation of all wins in which ineligible men’s basketball students played in 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2010-11 and 2011-12 and ineligible football students played in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07. The public decision contains additional details.
• Fine of $500 per contest played by ineligible students.
• The school must return to the NCAA all funds it has received to date through the former Big East Conference revenue sharing for its appearances in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
• Suspension of the head basketball coach from the first nine conference games of 2015-16.
• Reduction of men’s basketball scholarships by three for the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years. If the school has already executed scholarship offers for the 2015-16 year, the school may begin the four-year penalty with the 2016-17 year.
• Reduction in the number of permissible off-campus recruiters from four to two during June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2017.
• The panel also accepted the school’s self-imposed postseason ban for the 2014-15 season, but noted that self-imposition of penalties after the conclusion of infractions hearings does not influence the outcome.
• Additional self-imposed penalties can be found in the public decision

This is way more than just a slap on the wrist.

The head coach suspended for 9 conference games.
2 less recruiters on the road for 2 straight years.
3 lost ships a year.

That is Heavy.

They would have to hit on every scholarship player they give out which is hard.
And they'd have to convince recruits that Jimmy B will be around even if he doesn't step down right away.

I don't see how the NCAA won't let kids who signed an LOI out of them. And let current kids transfer without sitting out a year. Who would want to commit to 4 years of that in a top-heavy ACC?

Like I said, come on home McCullough. Finish what you know you wanted to start. You'll have all the minutes in the world to showcase yourself for the draft.

They can opt to start the scholarship reduction in 2016. Since there is no post-season ban, I dounbt that anyone will get a waiver if they transfer. Overall, pretty tough penalties. Not surprised that they ignore the fact that this goes back past their championship year. NCAA would never vacate a NC.

This is their 3rd probation. What do you have to do to earn a death penalty?

The ADs head should be rolling.

I can't believe how Syracuse is treated so lightly, when the NCAA tortured us for years, and our penalties were much harsher for far less infractions.

Boeheim to be suspended for 9 games
12 scholarships forfeited over 4 years
No postseason ban

What a joke. An NCAA team can offer 13 scholarships. The only people that really get hurt in this are the walk-on/practice players that might have earned a scholarship. Syracuse we'll be just fine with the scholarships; even if a fringe player that had limited minutes leaves the team.

Only if they had an LOI in place, so they can't continue to recruit Bryant (paging Steve Lavin).

75% of respondents to a poll on Syracuse.com said the penalties were too stiff. Homers

Big picture. This isn't a light penalty. Could it be more harsh? Sure.

But some of you just want to see Jimmy B doing the perp walk out of the Carrier Dome in handcuffs.

What NCAA team offers 13 scholarships?

They will feel this big time in their recruiting.

Nah I would have been fine with a ball and chains

Syracuse on probation

Pitt not close to the success they had in the BE

Louisville - set for an early NCAA exit since they cant score the ball.

Boston College.....LOL

VT basketball has never been good and their football has also fallen back to mediocre

Miami...NIT NIT NIT

Plus + Avon. I will say though that I think Buzz Williams will get Va Tech going - he is a hell of a coach IMO. And even though Louisville really struggles scoring the ball, I can see them doing damage in the tournament with the right matchups, because Pitino is a great tourney coach and their size/athleticism/style can cause havoc for certain types of teams.

@JeffEisenberg: Syracuse recommended the elimination of one off-campus recruiter for six months. It lost two for two years.

Of course many teams don't have 13 kids on scholarships.
But if teams are indeed allowed to offer 13 scholarships, then:
They use up 3 on this ban, and Excuse still has 10 to offer.
The loss of scholarship aspect of this is a slap on the wrist.

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the 13 limit, it's a slap on the wrist, the 'ship aspect to this all.
