Syracuse

If you want a good chuckle, take a look at this Boeheim press conference--specifically from the 2:30 to 2:45 mark. Classic Boeheim.

Good look into future for Obekpa...Christmas offensive stats mirrored Chris' stats thru 1st 3 years and hehas blossomed into a deent offnsive player as a senior...hopefully Chris sees a senior season as an opportunity to fill out his repertoire

Agreed 100% Section 3 , Chris should definitely stay another year, Rysheed also to work on his outside shooting.

reading that "Dead Storm" article from bigeastboards.com is a bit like reading
a well read, 10th grader's first essay of some aspect of life. That is, it is rife with self-importance, sarcasm posing as wit, and one insight. The latter being that the author admittedly wrote if before the game and was forced to temper it a bit with
edits after the fact. Actually he doesn't need a spot on bigeastboard.com, he could just post here in real time and fit right in.

Lol! Fun's act is real, real old; and as with most of the mindelssly persistent negatories on this board, it says volumes more about him than about the team. Kinda sad, but still occasionally funny

Article does not give SJU any credit for playing great D or mentioning they were beaten by a better team

What do you expect? It's a one-horse town with a one-horse-town mentality.

Yes thank you and Gleason - a good Brooklyn boy - would also often add "one of these days" and it certainly was!
What a great happening! What other conclusion can there be: this and the gonzaga game bodes well for us.
all the best

Thanks. Great shots, although I don't know which one I like the best: the guys on our bench jumping for joy, or old JB looking like he's in the ninth circle of hell ... probably the latter.

I was expecting JB to announce his resignation -he looked so forlorn, despondent, weary.......

All the best

I'm not surprised he looks like that; look at at what's left on his schedule:
Villanova, Miami, UNC, Duke, Louisville, Duke, UVA

With their 3 current losses, and based the way his team is shooting, the above games are almost all automatic losses. That'll put him at 10 losses. He's basically looking at maximum of 20 wins this year. His team has no margin of error against the lesser teams in the ACC.

The man is 70 and he never wanted to leave the Big East. The president and AD pulled a fast one on him behind his back and on whose shoulders the entire Orange brand was built. If NCAA sanctions come down I expect Jimmy B to pack it in.

BTW there are only two teams on your list the Orange cannot beat....Louisville and Duke.

I like many have been frustrated with the way Phil has been used in his time here, and at 2-12 it looked like we might be headed for another one of those days. Then he put together the best 4 minutes of basketball not only he but possibly anybody in a St. John's uniform has since Dwight Hardy, and did so in the biggest of spots. Thrilled for him to have a game like this and hope it sparks many more like it this season, especially because so much of the frustration directed at him has been the result of his usage, which is largely out of his control. He has never appeared to be anything but a terrific teammate and a better kid. Outstanding stuff.

That said we were in position to win this game over the first 36 minutes because of Harrison and Obekpa. Thought it was one of if not the most targeted, precise scoring efforts of Harrison's career. And Obekpa was an absolute man defensively and on the backboards against Cuse's trees. No other way to put it. 39 minutes against Christmas and McCullough and he was still motoring in the last minute of the game. Unbelievable effort from him.

Well-executed gameplan on both ends from the staff. Have not seen us attack a zone like that in some time. Also, not sure if this was discussed previously, but thought the Myles Stewart piece was a nice touch from Lavin. To start and play him 19 minutes against Niagra, with articles being written about his potential impact as a 3 point shooter v. Cuse, and then take the game in a different direction are the kind of small wrinkles that can shift things ever so slightly in your favor. It may have had no impact on the game, but there is no doubt Stewart was on Cuse's scouting report and they spent time on him for nothing. I love stuff like that, never hurts.

For the first time in a very long time, it can be said that St. John's is ahead of where they should be record-wise, exceeding expectations. Couldn't be happier about that.

Excellent post.

I agree in general about what you are saying about Boeheim not liking the ACC. However, this current team must be driving him crazy. They are #350 out of 351 teams in the NCAA in three-point shooting. They remind me of our recent teams: Very athletic (even taller), but can't shoot a lick.

They are going to have a very tough time beating any of the teams mentioned above.

Since Lavin has gone to a 7-8 man rotation we are playing much better. Allows the team to develop a rhythm! Let's keep it going!

Self-imposed postseason ban for Cuse.

Just coming across ESPN, now. No ACC Tournament for them, either.

Shame, isn't it? ;)

Actually, good news for all other teams presently on the bubble.
