Syracuse, Sun. Dec. 13, 12pm, FS1 & 570 AM

Freaking awesome win!! Yawke is going to be a beast. I don't know why they didn't press us eariler, Boeheim I think would have made that adjustment. But I haven't been this happy about a win since G'town with the Hardy team.

Balamou lost the ball as soon as he entered the game and missed a three pointer from the corner. Mullin obviously felt Amar, Durand and Mvouika were better shooters against the zone, especially since Felix is a slasher and we didn't need unnecessary dribbling.

Great game plan, great execution, great atmosphere. Crowd, based n colors, was probably 3/4 Orange. Noise was all St. John's. We took the crowd out of it early and, but for a couple of isolated moments, they had nothing to cheer about. Great victory in front of a gaggle of potential recruits.

In the comments section of the article Jazzbo called us a middle of the pack BE team. Nice to hear. Staff gonna drive this team as hard as they can take it. They don't ever think in terms of a throw away season.

Syracuse fans as usual were out in full force today supporting their team. I was watching the game in a suite being the only SJU fan and was very proud of this team and showing my support but was amazed that many SU fans were giving me the finger for being a loud fan. This team showed me today that they have heart and will be competitive in important games, which is all I ask for most of the time, for us to be competitive. Mullin's coaching and use of time outs was superb tonight.

Haven't read the whole thread since the game ended but what a great win for this program at this juncture and what a good week for the Big Eas!! To me the play of Alibegovic was the best thing to come out of this win. 15pts and 9 Boards, if he can give us anything close to that game after game this team will be good, He shot the ball with confidence today also. Yakwe was really good also. Mussini we knew could shoot and with no pressure D it allowed him to just square up and shoot and relax in the offensive sets. Always great to beat Cuse!!

To be perfectly candid I was quite concerned about so many promising recruits being at this particular game today. Isn't it lovely to be so wrong sometimes?

Our performance must have enhanced our chances with each any every one or them.

This outcome shocked me so much that at the end of the game looking at both coaches I felt for the first time in over 25 years I feel the future is brighter at SJU than Syracuse.

By nature I am an optimistic person but certainly not an unrealistic one. On the train heading into MSG this morning I did not envision by any stretch of my imagination a victory by St. John’s against Syracuse today. In fact based on the recent performances against Fordham and Niagara the best I was hoping for was to somehow keep it a competitive game with the final St. John’s deficit under double digits.

However one of the things I love about going to St. John’s games and sports in general is seeing the unexpected. Today was awesome! So many things surprised me: the crisp passing, the movement, the defense, the 22 assists, the buzz of Red energy rocking the packed Garden and silencing the Orange wave and the amazing Amar Alibegovic magically transforming from an end of the bench afterthought into an improved version of Kristaps Porzingis.

The game plan was so well conceived that it became clear early on that St. John’s smart approach to the Syracuse zone was going to keep them in the game but even then I never thought they could have overcome the tough hand the brutal refs handed them (Sima’s third and fourth fouls were total phantoms). However despite the odds being stacked against them just about everyone stepped up and did something great. After the Alibegovic breakout performance the biggest surprise to me was how quickly Yakwe has made such an impact on this team. His offensive output today was very significant and this along with his defensive skills, plus elite athletic ability makes him a highly promising element to our team’s success going forward.

The great thing was that this was a true team victory and just about everybody contributed; From Mussini playing with his typical burning intensity and hitting dagger like three after three, Sima controlling the paint and altering shot after shot on defense, Durand hitting big shots and grabbing big boards and Mouvika bringing maturity and toughness, to the whole coaching staff who put together a great game plan. Kudos to everyone involved!

The best part for me is that efforts like this will infuse my future optimism and makes going to the games and rooting for the team that much more fun. Go St. John’s! Remember anything is possible!

I thought Amar played great and with tremendous energy today. The only issues were he isn't athletic enough on the defensive end to defend the rim and took a bunch of fouls. He also really struggled against the athletic pressure of Cuse off inbounds.

excellent excellent game!! The boys played great! LOVED the game plan by coaches. Attacked inside , crisp passes, established a force inside defensively. Great use of time outs, terrific substitutions and leaving in hot hands ( ali- yak we). We shot the ball extremely well, but the game shouldn't of been that close with multiple questionable calls by the refs. great game, and in front of a slew of recruits! congrats boys and staff!!

I saw it on FS1. very laid back, confident and matter of fact. He was proud of his team and told them that if they keep listening to the staff and pay attention to detail and work hard (rebound and play defense) they can beat anyone. He told the team that there is more there , he sees it in them and if they keep handling their business the right way more good things will happen. That is not verbatim of course, but that's basically what he said. The way he said it was just very cool and confident.
