The Syracuse sports writers in the below linked article should eat their words when they predicted a lopsided wins by the University of Syracuse over StJohn's

.......Syracuse reasserts itself in its home away from home in front of a partisan Orange crowd.

Jesse Dougherty (6-3) predicted a 22 point SU win
Syracuse 77, St. John’s 55
Driving through the storm

... Syracuse shouldn’t allow the Red Storm to even sniff a win in Madison Square Garden on Sunday, and anything less than a lopsided win would be disappointing for the Orange.

Matt Schneidman (6-3) predicted an 11 point SU win
Syracuse 71, St. John’s 60
Bright lights

..... Malachi Richardson and Tyler Lydon .... will lead the Orange to a convincing victory. MSG is the platform for jumping up another peg as Syracuse tries to climb back into the Top 25.

Great freaking win! Everyone who got minutes contributed.

And thank god our staff had the balls to invite the recruits they did to today's game!!

If anyone was at the game and recorded it, be sure to watch the interviews with Mussini and Mullin after the game...

Mussini seems like such a lovable kid......Mullin was awesome in explaining how they had a specific game plan to break the SU press....

I am really enjoying this season.....i know we may have some rough patches ahead but i don't see how anyone could be unhappy with what we've seen so far....

The Chris Mullin effect is real as St. John’s shocks Syracuse[/center]

The impact of Jim Boeheim’s absence can be debated, but the effect of Chris Mullin’s presence cannot be questioned.

Going up against his former Big East rival, Mullin earned the biggest win of his coaching career Sunday afternoon, as St. John’s stunned Syracuse, 84-72, at Madison Square Garden, while Boeheim missed the meeting as part of his suspension for NCAA violations.

Following last season’s upstate upset, the Red Storm earned consecutive wins over the Orange for the first time in 22 seasons and their first home win against Syracuse since 2007.

After a string of subpar offensive performances, the Red Storm (7-3) received a much-needed balanced effort — with five players scoring in double figures — highlighted by the breakout game of Amar Alibegovic, who finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

St. John’s jumped out to an early 9-5 lead, but Syracuse seemed to wrestle back control and reset back to reality with a 7-0 run. It was then that the Orange discovered how difficult the battle would be, facing a rebuilding Red Storm squad playing with more passion and determination than it had displayed at any point this season.

Alibegovic, the only returning St. John’s player who saw any action in last year’s upset at Syracuse, was the spark, showcasing tremendous energy, which started with a putback dunk to give St. John’s a 15-14 lead midway through the half, in the midst of an 11-1 run, in which he scored seven points.

Syracuse (7-3) briefly took the lead back, but leading-scorer Federico Mussini’s three 3-pointers stretched the lead to 11, as the St. John’s student section chanted “Where is Boeheim?”

St. John’s, coming off a 48-point effort against Niagara, led 40-31 at halftime, holding a plus-12 edge on the glass while containing Syracuse to 33 percent shooting from the field.

The Red Storm negated the impact of Syracuse’s famed zone defense by hitting 12-of-24 3-pointers, turning the orange portion of the crowd into a silent majority as Syracuse hit just 5-of-25 from outside. Though Syracuse senior Michael Gbinije scored a game-high 21 points, Alibegovic was the difference, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to give St. John’s a 71-58 lead with 7:30 remaining.

The Orange used consistent full-court pressure in the final minutes and brought out the worst in the turnover-prone Red Storm, who committed four turnovers to cut the deficit to seven, but Syracuse shot and stabbed and severed their own feet, missing multiple layups to cut the lead further.

In the face!!

The Johnnies controlled the game, as well. If we can get LoVett, and a healthy Ellison and Williams, then we're gonna surprise some people, as I've long thought. We could wind up a 7th place team in the Big East with that particular group.

Good job, Johnnies!

Donny Marschall and Lavin on FS1 thought so as well. Just keep improving.
Big East is good but their is hope.

Props to former Coach Lavin on AAs play, may it continue and hopefully this was his breakout party. Also props to him for calling the upset last week. ;)
Glad to be wrong. ;)

Yes, but imbecilic of him to comment on how we played against their zone. His teams were never coached on how to do it.

I watched that niagara game thinking wow we are going to get destroyed this weekend.

After playing that poorly I thought our team would not have any confidence. They came out and were letting it fly and hitting.

Great offensive strategy. How about Yakwe? That dude isn't scared of anybody. Yea his post moves need some work and he rushes sometimes, but he showed me I was way off about his game. He has a touch around the rim that I didn't think he did.

Great job all around. Johnson, Mussini, Sima, AMAR. Great game. Great win.

Huge win, stunning reversal from the last 3 games. Keep it rolling.

Best damn game of the season, any day we beat Syracuse is a great day. Great offensive display getting 84pnts (did we have 48pnts vs. Niagara?).
7-3 now. My computer crashed but i'll be on as much as possible, I expect to have my pc back be the first week of January.

Big win today REDMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 2 GAME WINNING STREAK VS. CUSE
SO SWEETTTTTTTTTT

A great win, I haven't been this excited over a win in a very long time. I have my SJU gear on and I am wearing it around all over Syracuse this whole coming week.

SU's Head Coach in waiting Mike Hopkins sure did not distinguish himself with his ability to adjust his defenses to Mullin;s double high post offenses.

Had "Hop" utilized a half court press during the game or otherwise increased pressure then his team my have won.

There is a long line of long time successful assistant coaches who have become a head coach at a top basketball school who have failed.

IMO Syracuse basketball will miss Boeheim when he retires.

Well balanced offensive attack. Mussini didn't force anything and was very efficient. An unexpected win. The recruits at the game saw a great game w a great atmosphere. Hopefully we can continue he series w SU trending down and us trending up.Love beating Syracuse. Although Amar had 4 turnovers, he looked great. We were lucky we got Yakwe eligible, he is coming along and will be a great 4 year player. W a little luck, Lovett will be eligible and we may surprise some people.

I thought we beat them in Syracuse, Lavin must have been lucky.

I gave them no chance as well but it looked like an entirely new team until the last few minutes. Any team that let's STJ walk the ball up unpressured and sits back in a zone is going to be surprised. The passing within the zone was great (20 assists???) and with the patience to look for the right shot they dropped like crazy. Then when the pressure came I had flashbacks but they held on and got a good win. They were well prepared for the 2-3, great job by the staff. Like what Mullin had to say about it after the game, let's not get too complicated/NBA style on them, just get them prepared to attack the zone. Unfortunately I don't think they'll play any teams that play 1 style of D the entire game the rest of the season. Still fun to watch.

Yakwe became literally the central focus point of our offense for important stretches of the game. I was amazed that Mullin let him play the way he did. I guess from years of indoctrination, I kept waiting for him to get yanked. That has to build him up for years to come.
