You are dead on about why the roster was rebuilt so quickly with such talent. Yes, Rick is a great salesman. Yes, Matt may have helped steer these guys to us. But without question, some of our strongest supporters have very quietly without any self promotion stepped up to provide $$ for NIL.Clearly there was a $witch flipped for Pitino's last few recruits, as they're MUCH higher ranked than the first dozen or so players Pitino got. We went from getting guys in the 100-200+ range to top 25 overnight. For as much confidence as some displayed during the initial rough month of recruiting, something huge obviously changed in regards to money.
Reading this topic, it appears Matt was the catalyst behind those moves. In that case, assuming this is all being done legitimately (would hope so in the NIL era), then without question Matt needed to be brought in. Shouldn't be any debate past that.
Beast, everyone who is a diehard fan of this program and can afford it , should be donating to Storm Marketing. Just give the $9.99 per month. If 5,000 fans give $10 per month that’s $600,000 per year in NIL money. Also, didn’t you mention something about a Repole announcement soon??You are dead on about why the roster was rebuilt so quickly with such talent. Yes, Rick is a great salesman. Very importantly, two things for all of our fans to know:
1) We are at a deficit in terms of NIL commitments to players vs actual funds raised.
2) Year to year NIL funds start near zero.
This means more fans and alums have to step up and support NIL. The whole concept makes me uncomfortable but without question our ability to bring in talent is directly related to strength of NIL. My fear is that if we don't step up collectively, Rick could exit after a couple of seasons to a top program with much stronger NIL $.
It's really up to us both in NIL and facilities. As is clear right now leaving it up to big donors doesn't get us across the finish line.
Does this statement mean we have promised More $ to players than we actually have (at the moment) to give?1) We are at a deficit in terms of NIL commitments to players vs actual funds raised.
Agree. Very reasonable that small monthly, for a program we all love. It’s like a monthly Hulu or Netflix subscription and isn’t gonna break the bank for most.Beast, everyone who is a diehard fan of this program and can afford it , should be donating to Storm Marketing. He represented Dingle and Wilcher Octagon Basketball agencyThis is a dumb question because I have no idea what role Matt was in or what power he has, but how exactly did he steer recent recruits to St Johns and how was he in a position to do so?
In the existing market, that will not get you much. If Pitino leaves because the NIL money has to be raised via the old school SJU “mom and pop” approach it was not meant to be. Everyone is giddy about SJU playing with the big boys and that means NIL fund raising like the big boys; sorry to those who don’t want to hear it but that‘s just NIL reality.Beast, everyone who is a diehard fan of this program and can afford it , should be donating to Storm Marketing. That's what I'm wondering. And if we did, that's a very very bad business move.Does this statement mean we have promised More $ to players than we actually have (at the moment) to give?
Spot on Logen. We have a few hundred(maybe) die hard SJU fans on this board. We are probably the most die hard fans of this program on this planet. Yea I'm sure ever little penny helps, but if any of you think that we as a group are gonna move the needle more than one iota, you're fooling yourselves. This is a multi-billion dollar business, not a charity. SJU needs to run it like one.In the existing market, that will not get you much. It must be a tough challenge - getting alums/fans to donate to school and/or Red White Club...and now also have same base donate to NIL. Seems more like redistribution and doubt school wants to lose what directly comes in.
I think everyone is smarter than to make such promises. If they did this, then they may kiss future recruits goodbye. That's what I'm wondering. And if we did, that's a very very bad business move.
It may be tough but IMO if Stanley, etc. hired Pitino not understanding and taking into account the NIL factor realistically it was just another in a long line of SJU bad hires. For the record, I don’t believe that is the case at all, either by Shanley offering or Pitino accepting. It must be a tough challenge - getting alums/fans to donate to school and/or Red White Club...and now also have same base donate to NIL.
