St. John's to Leave Nike?

How about the St Johns Red.

I really like this idea. The name packs a bit of a punch, which is cool. Only possible issue I see with it is that it sounds like an STD (I went to Hofstra and there has long been the tale of a specialized STD of the school called the "Hofstra Red" lol).

Cornell is the "Big Red" and it works fine, even though it is also gum. Either the "Storm" or "RED" are fine with me.

And we can put out gear with "Red Men" on it, which is the closest we'll ever get to "Redmen."

Cornell's the "Big Red"? Who knew. ;)

I am just going to put my 2 cents in, how about St. John's Redhawks? There are some goodlooking graphics!

I like the sound of it. Might be a little to close to st Joes who we have already had copyright battles with though.

I would prefer "St. John's Reds" rather than "St. John's Red".

Sounds too close to the Cincinnati Reds.
I heard Willie Shaw suggested a name that incorporates St. John's location and red-----the Jamaican Red Mon.

I agree that Red or Reds is a great way to go. I think Johnnies is the most natural nickname - and has the benefit of already being an unofficial nickname - but agree with those that have said that St. John's Johnnies doesn't flow right. St. John's Red Johnnies? I wouldn't be against it but it is probably a bit too much.

Red(s) has a sense of tradition (the color has been in our name for some time) and is simple, which I like in comparison to developing an animal-related nickname out of thin air that hasn't previously had a connection to the school.

@darrenrovell: Big day for Under Armour tomorrow, unveiling its new global strategy. Only 6% of its revenue comes from outside the US.

@darrenrovell: $ earned outside the US: Under Armour 6%, Nike 59%, Adidas 60% (via @wsj)

@darrenrovell: Wall Street's reluctance with Under Armour starts with lack of geographical diversification. Company needs to crack international game.

What better market than NYC to have representing them than NY's school St. John's. To have such a diverse basketball roster and student body certainly must be appealing.

And we get to display that brand on a Euro trip this summer.

I expect UA to really push the fact that they have partnered up with SJU.
