St. John's-Georgetown, Game II Game Thread

I honestly think that they play two or three players every game out of position which is why they have "role" issues. I beleive two of the freshman are already at a junior level of competence on the court in shooting and the other three (Green, Garrett and Pointer) are progressing well. I think the coaches are teaeaching them a vareity of zones and they are learning well, certainly improved over their first few months. So, I think they play with heart, and most of them with awareness as well as they rarely fouil out of a game. I think the team has tremendous heart. These are all ingredients that are producing a better team. within a year or two with some height, some support and their coach returning, they will be winners.

terrible possession at the end of the half....ball should have been in harkless' hands. another braindead moment for dunlap.

didn't expect to be within 5 tho...hopefully deangelo is ok.

I am sure YOU did not expect to be within 5 against the #11 team with 5 freshmen, a coach not coaching, no bench, and playing an away game. Nice to call coach D brain dead ...last I checked the ball was not in his hands but in those of a freshmen.
Damn ILL BILL, why didn't coach bring in an experienced player off the bench for that last play ?????

I think Boris was the obvious choice to bring the ball down but coach D cannot pronounce his last name.

I think you will be on top of your game in the second half as only a 15 point loss will vindicate your unbiased assessment of our team.

so because dunlap isn't playing, he isn't capable of calling a harkless iso play? I get it now...

Coach Dunlap has forgotten more basketball in his life then you've ever learned

which makes it even more perplexing that he didn't call a play for harkless there....

love that we are keeping it close but we have to get over the hump at some point...we need deangelo to get hot and knock down multiple threes. starts on the defensive end tho...

Fair point

illwill - what do you mean the team hasn't improved at all this year? - i humbly and politely disagree:

I believe there has been plenty of improvement.

in the beginning of the year we lost to Northeastern and Detroit and we barely beat Lehigh. Fast forward to recent weeks: We have been mostly competitive with big power conference teams (super competitive vs. Georgetown today, Depaul, Duke, West Virginia and not competitive vs. Cinci and Syracuse)

This all with a team that is comprised of 5 freshmen and one juco tranfser. Coming into season this team was expected to have a lot more contributors: Sampson, Pelle, Polee, Lindsey and Stith - that's a lot of fire power to lose and adjust to. To say they have not improved when they are forced to adjust on the fly does these kids no justice.

Improvements:

Harkelss - coming into the year he not discussed as an NBA player; now posters on this website redmen.com regularly debate if he will leave for the NBA after one or two seasons. that implies improvement.

Harrison: three point shooting percentages have improved since the beginning of the season. currently some posters think he can play at the next level as well. that implies improvement.

Green: expected to be role player - now a serviceable player playing a position that he had not played before. He is clearly making better decisions as a ball distributable vs. when he first took over as the team's point guard. His outside shot has as also improved.

Garret: starts the season late. is not able to practice with the team at all before he arrives. inserted into big east games from the start. he is definitely more than what he was when he first arrived.

That is 4 out of our 6 man rotation. that's not bad.

Your only beef for non-improvement would be with Dom & and GG. They are both more projects on the offensive end.

As far as overall team play, i think our competitiveness against big power conference teams for the most part lately speaks to the improvement. Defense has improved markedly. offensive transition game has improved as well.

You do have a legitimate beef on the teams half-court offense. That needs to improve; and needs a lot of work.

I respect your right to have a different opinion and your candidness that you are disappointed. However, i politely beg to differ that the team hasn't improved. I think i have proven it with the above remarks.

Thanks for reading.
