St. John's-Georgetown, Game II Game Thread

illwill - what do you mean the team hasn't improved at all this year? - i humbly and politely disagree:

I believe there has been plenty of improvement.

in the beginning of the year we lost to Northeastern and Detroit and we barely beat Lehigh. Fast forward to recent weeks: We have been mostly competitive with big power conference teams (super competitive vs. Georgetown today, Depaul, Duke, West Virginia and not competitive vs. Cinci and Syracuse)

This all with a team that is comprised of 5 freshmen and one juco tranfser. Coming into season this team was expected to have a lot more contributors: Sampson, Pelle, Polee, Lindsey and Stith - that's a lot of fire power to lose and adjust to. To say they have not improved when they are forced to adjust on the fly does these kids no justice.

Improvements:

Harkelss - coming into the year he not discussed as an NBA player; now posters on this website redmen.com regularly debate if he will leave for the NBA after one or two seasons. that implies improvement.

Harrison: three point shooting percentages have improved since the beginning of the season. currently some posters think he can play at the next level as well. that implies improvement.

Green: expected to be role player - now a serviceable player playing a position that he had not played before. He is clearly making better decisions as a ball distributable vs. when he first took over as the team's point guard. His outside shot has as also improved.

Garret: starts the season late. is not able to practice with the team at all before he arrives. inserted into big east games from the start. he is definitely more than what he was when he first arrived.

That is 4 out of our 6 man rotation. that's not bad.

Your only beef for non-improvement would be with Dom & and GG. They are both more projects on the offensive end.

As far as overall team play, i think our competitiveness against big power conference teams for the most part lately speaks to the improvement. Defense has improved markedly. offensive transition game has improved as well.

You do have a legitimate beef on the teams half-court offense. That needs to improve; and needs a lot of work.

I respect your right to have a different opinion and your candidness that you are disappointed. However, i politely beg to differ that the team hasn't improved. I think i have proven it with the above remarks.

Thanks for reading.

will respond after the game....we got a nail-biter here.

watching harkless play at times it makes me think why he doesn't always have this agressiveness. on most nights he the most talented player on the floor.

In the bginning of the year we also played arizona and texas a + m tough and in our last game we got blown out by cincy on our home court. not to mention that was weeks after we beat cincy on their home court.

Phil Greene is still way to inconsistent. Amir and Dom are just inept offensively altho garrett shows flashes. GG has gotten worse.

DeAngelo and Harkless have been good all season. I don't see much improvement in their games, and that's not a knock because like i said they've been good since day-1.

We still have a terrible half-court offense...i guess that's bc of a lack of a true pg, but we still should be better.
