St. John’s (2020-21)

So this MTE will be 3 games. Texas Tech is another one. We still have three more out of conference games to schedule, correct? They better up the level of competition for the last three. Try and get Rutgers, Syracuse etc.

I don't know what we're going for, but someone posted DePaul was shooting for 24-25 games. If we do the same, and conf play will be 20, and we get three games over Thanksgiving, that may only leave 1-2 more.

I really want to see at least 1 other high major on our schedule. As of now we are only visiting Texas Tech, and we'll be underdogs there. With the quarantine rules we might not even be able to travel. Need to give the team a chance for a successful OOC by playing (and hopefully beating) a Syracuse or Rutgers. If we go 6-1 with 6 home wins against cupcakes and a loss against Texas Tech we'll have a pretty mediocre resume heading into conference play.

This is the year we want to make a statement, and the only way to do that is by playing quality opponents.

So looks like current Schedule looks like this...

Nov 25th - 27th - Bryant, Manhattan, LaSalle
Dec 3rd - Texas Tech
Dec 8th - Fordham
TBA - Sacred Heart

Now the question is do they try to squeeze a 7th game in before conference play starts, which it's been reported they would like to start conference games Dec.12th.[/quote]

Weak out of conference schedule to date, but appreciate the complexity of putting it together in this environment. It does put pressure on SJU to have a solid BE record to dance IMO.

Why does it have to be before a conference game is played?

I still wonder if we will play the game at Texas Tech
A lot of things can happen between now and December 3rd

Because once conference play starts each team is going to be playing 2 games a week. And you rarely see teams during conference play, play more than 2 games a week. Only other way it could work is if say St. John's and another conference opponent both played their conference game against each other at an earlier date than the other teams, and then that way later down the line they both could play their non-conference game in the middle of conference play, and it would still even out to 2 games a week.

With this out of conference schedule we will have to finish 4th in conference to get an NCAA bid. Unless we beat Texas Tech then we can finish 5th or maybe 6th and still have a shot .

That's impossible to know. This is unchartered territory most high major teams are only having 5-7 non-conference games. And there's some mid majors that are playing even less than that or playing conference only games. Then you have some conferences that aren't even playing at all. If you follow other teams as well, you can see teams are just trying to find games, a lot of high majors have cancelled those big non-conference tournaments they typically play in and replaced them with local mid-major opponents to cut down on travel expenses. If St. John's is just able to schedule 7 non-conference games, they'll be ahead of the curve on a lot of teams, a lot of PAC 12 teams are just doing 5 non-conference games.

Ok. So if the dates are nov 25, 26, 27, I am assuming they play 1 game a day meaning we have have johnnies basketball on Thanksgiving day?
