Smith Injury

Criminal that they played him 17 minutes a few days after initial injury in a game not needed just to get him "some burn".

Didn't need any medical training to see that was bad move by staff to even have had him in warmups.
Yes, you do.
You guys are assuming he worsened the injury, which without a doubt is entirely possible but not a given by any means. I have been around injuries long enough to know it very well his attempting to play could have just confirmed the real nature of the extent and see if he could play through the pain and loss of mobility.
I have been around and involved in enough consultations with trained medical people and player injuries to know either could be true, not at all offering an opinion one way or the other.

Not assuming it made it worse, but it didn't help it heal. He was not fit to play and didn't take warmup plus 17 minutes in game to see that.

This on top of a player who missed time in preaseason with bad shoulder and putting him back in the original game and cortisone shot which mask the issue and a band aid

Bad move

Plus, the fact that he still can’t lift his arm past his shoulder means he’s not even close to being able to play. Knowing how important February would be to our chances for a conference championship and seeding in the tournament, there’s no way he should have played. We had an injury derail our chances to make a tournament run the last time we made it with DJ Kennedy and now who knows with Smith.

Ok, you’re insistent; on what basis? Did involved directly with the SJU medical or coaching staff gave you that nugget or were you privy to the medical charts and have the education and experience to medically evaluate them?
There are a lot of areas I do not have a high opinion of Pitino on but suggesting he would knowingly put a player in danger for further injury is not one of them, not to mention the impugnment on the trained and professional medical personnel involved.
I offered a feasible alternate possibility, obviously your mind is close mindedly closed IMO unless you offer some tangible knowledge on the situation. Watching a player warm up and then play is not even remotely that.

I found a doctor who can do wonders for Smith's shoulder:

Very easy to second guess this no doubt but only because of what Pitino said regarding the trainer.

Otherwise there is no legitimate second guess.

The arm chair medical people can complain all they want. If he was cleared he was cleared. Injuries can still happen.
Agree, but even if cleared trainers and are not infallible either.

I agree with everyone who said it was bad judgment to bring Smith back in the second half of the Villanova game after he was injured in the first half and it was equally bad judgment to play him in the Seton Hall game. That said, if there is a silver lining to all of this, is that the team has found different ways to win without him and that may have long-term benefits for the team when Smith can return healthy.

I believe one of the benefits is that Kadary has begun to thrive as the main point guard and while he brings a different set of skills to the table than Smith does, it is clear to me that Kadary has been blossoming recently.

Reading into my response a bit too much. Don't get your panties in a bunch. It's a forum and posters here post based on their eye test about everything.

You know what, I can’t stand responses like that; you made a show of “not assuming” which infers you knew something, which you don’t. So respond to me honestly or not at all because all you are doing is assuming.

Agree with everything you said ghostzapper. The fact of the matter remains that if this team is going to achieve something special in March , and I think they can, they need Smith back for when they start this tough stretch in February. Because doing well in that stretch sets them up and puts them in a much better position to succeed in the postseason.

I guess you would have played him more then. Yes sir...bowing now at the all knowing, omnicient logen. Your wish is my command. 😆

Another half ass defensive reply, I was pretty clear I was offering no opinion but an alternative. Hence your accusation of all knowing and omniscient is just like the rest of your conclusion on the subject, close minded BS. Any more face saving attempts at reply will be ignored, so criticize to your hearts content.

There is no clear evidence that Smith playing worsened the injury. Optics aren't good, though. Just heard he can't raise arm above injured shoulder right now.

This may have a silver lining, allowing Richmond to contribute more scoring in the halfcourt, and hasten the development of plsyers otherwise getting less minutes.
Just to add a little levity to the situation if he can’t lift his arm above his shoulder I guess we could lend him out to the bowling team.

No need to save face with you...Have a good day Dr. Logic, I mean Logen.

I will never question or disagree a decision made by staff again.

I just hope he comes back

What is in the past is in the past. The future gets a lot harder the longer Smith is out and if and I am hoping when that he will be fully effective.

We certainly can win without him but he adds a different dynamic to our team that can’t be replicated. Let’s just hope things get better soon.

We can win without him and still be an ncaa team. But I think our ceiling is meaningfully lower without him
