Smith Injury

Being that it is what it is best case scenario if he is out for an extended period is that the hastening of development of other kids makes us a deeper, more formidable late February thru March team.
I agree Beast, but when is Pitino actually going to say what the real extent of the injury is and what we are realistically looking at time wise with regard to him being out. Also, yes, the development of other kids like Prey and Glover will make us a stronger team down the road . The thing is though, if Smith is going to be out for an extended period of time then we need to develop another guard and Lefty needs to get minutes. If you have a game where Kadary gets into foul trouble or Sim gets into foul trouble we need another guard. We can’t depend on Ayo or Glover to come in and handle the ball.

Whether it was a good or bad decision, I'm sort of content to revel in having the best team in 25 years (at least) coached by the best coach we've had since I've been a fan here.

Relax gene cuz it hasn't happened in so damned long we don't even know how to enjoy it.

Mean Gene, we have to accept that we are not on a need-to-know-footing. We are just want-to-knows. We will find out when those in the know, want us to know. Until then, we have to rely on Chick Phil-A sightings by mjmaherjr, although in reality, I think the whole team eats at Applebees.

For better or for worse, Pitino is far more transparent on players’ injuries than our last two staffs.

Long rant ALERT!!! Dev is extremely important to our team in the tourney…Don’t F it up let him get healthy whether that be 2 or 5 games…We just want to see the kid jumping through the roof with his 40+ vertical. 8-1 start we have some wiggle room for rest. I firmly believe he will be back 100% healthy when it means most. Still 7 weeks away from the conference tourney just don’t mess with his recovery and we’re good. Going to be an awesome few months ahead…Enjoy Boys Let’s Fkn Go Redmen!!! I also think this gives everyone on our team more time to gel and get better ESPECIALLY Sim and Kadary and maybe even Glover/Lefty…Could be a blessing in disguise for us to be NCAA TOURNEY READY!!!

Agree 100 percent. That said, playing KR 40 mins per game will increase the possibility that he gets injured too. It’s clear his back is not fully healthy. For the Xavier game at MSG, KR came out for second half warm-ups with a lower back brace on and he can’t elevate with explosivity near the rim. The bad wide open missed dunk he had was because he failed to elevate when he tried to get quick lift. We’re gonna have to give Sim or Glover some minutes at PG if Smith is out 2+ games. Lefty isnt ready. I have faith this was a big part of Rick’s practice plan for the week off…

I thought the missed dunk was because he lost control of his grip on the ball

It didn’t look that way to me from the stands. Looked like he failed to elevate. Why not go up with two hands there? There was no one around him and he’s 6’6. Overall he played a great game and had burst on some drives but seemed physically inconsistent. How did others see it?

57 minute mark of the video. I was also there and agreed with Boo about losing grip on the ball.

But I think the commentators made a good point where maybe we all can agree that he was likely anticipating contact from Freemantle (who was next to him), which caused him to grip it with one hand to avoid a block + maybe hesitate to go right up (and fail to elevate as he should).

As a big Kadary guy, I'd also say this was a stupid misjudgment since Freemantle is zero threat to block anything in the paint.

On this board that barely qualifies as a rant let alone a long one.

No way Glover can play any PG for us. If Kadary needs a rest we throw Lefty into the fire. He’s played against pros in Europe. The issue is with him learning Pitino’s system and coach being comfortable enough with him to give him quality minutes in that system . Prey and Lefty both played against professionals in Europe. They’re not overwhelmed by the talent level in the Big East or the physicality of play. It’s about them learning Pitino’s system. If you put Prey and Lefty out there in pick up game against other Big East players they would compete just fine. They wouldn’t look like they didn’t belong.

Lefty will come in if the offense is really struggling to provide a shooting spark, especially against a zone. I think it was the Gtown game he entered in that scenario and drained a 3 that KR (or someone else) setup for him.

The flip-side is, if my recall is correct, the next possession down the floor Micah Peavey got switched on him, demanded the ball, and took him in for 2. I'm not sure how he will hold up against certain defensive matchups which we all know has been our calling card this year.
