Smith Injury

Lefty will only play a minute before or closing in on a tv timeout to give starter a rest if that. He is just not BE ready imo.

It is huge to keep guards out of foul trouble obviously. Rest assured Nova will try to drive and draw fouls especially a very strong Poplar.
Sometimes freshman gotta grow up sooner then later, not saying big minutes but maybe 5-7 minutes.

Just to make sure the starters don't ware themselves out, even though it's 2 game per week.

Our fan base has been calling for more minutes for Glover /Lefty most of the year

To little avail. Pitino is handling them like he did Wilcher and Brady last year . Very little and only situational playing .

That isn’t going to change. He will get Ayo in for a few minutes , here and there

But , will often use Prey and Vince together for a few . That gets Zuby , Scott , RJ , KR at various intervals and not, all at the same time .

We played well , without Smith and can do it again . Smith doesn’t get KR the ball as much as when KR is at the controls himself .
Which to me , is our best combination .

Smith was 1-8 Vs UCONN and had his layups blocked time and again . He did make that 3 and the foul on Karaban but, otherwise ?

He’s had a hard time putting the ball in the cup since the injury but we 1000% need him on the floor asap.

You cannot dribble around this man! He can jump out of the gym on the defensive glass and when he is coming back down the floor he reminds me of a running back getting down hill and attacking.

Love the way he plays and hoping the injuries are behind him soon!

I would like to see Lefty for more than 1 possession before a media TO or Halftime… let him break a sweat… get a couple shots up… I don’t think we see a drastic drop off if he partners with KR for 3-5 mins
I do.
Without disrespect, while he didn't exactly panic in that last possession, there were better options than him driving on their big men. It was the equivalent of trying to run into the lions den with a fistful of steaks at feeding time.

At this point Ayo, who I forgot about, is the most reliable option but with the lowest upside. Glover and Lefty have lived their whole basketball lives for an opportunity like this, it's up to them to take advantage when the bell rings for them.

That had to be a broken play right? No chance that was the call lol… look I’m not say put the ball in Lefty’s hands with 10 seconds left… let him play 5 mins, run off some screens - feed the post - give KR/Sim a breather

I'm not saying it wasn't a busted play. I am saying that at this point in Lefty's development, there is a dramatic dropoff with him on the floor with KR as opposed to Wilcher or Smith.

The only one who's calling for more Ayo minutes is Marillac. It's one of three tracks on his Greatest Hits album, along with "I Hate Daniss" and "Vince Is a Klutz." Though I think those two are hip-hop dis tracks and "Ayo, More Ayo" is a ballad. A love song, even.

Marillac took the Hellman's out of his fridge and changed it to MarillAYO and won't let his kid eat ketchup or mustard anymore. Only Marillayo is served on sandwiches
I’m on the Ayo bandwagon in the sense I have no problem with him getting 5-7 minutes of time as he absolutely doesn’t hurt us. Much prefer him over a couple of other options right now

With Smith's injury, he may need to get some more, unless Glover steps up. As I said on another thread, I think I would toy with starting him with a view toward him getting 10-15 minutes. I would bring Wilcher off the bench for some change-up and spark. I think roster and minute management gets a lot harder with Smith out for extended time (5 games +/-). We dealt with this earlier in the season, but we're now in the meat of our tough stretch, and at the end of the regular season, so we have to be careful not to tire at the end.

Pitino has juggled this guard short team well, so best to trust him to go w right combinations to keep things going in a positive direction. He really has limited options. I think he tried to squeeze minutes out of Vince, but knows now the risk there outweighs benefit.

Many here pushed for Glover time, but he really has not seized opportunities in limited minutes and he has not earned Rick’s trust on both ends of court.

I really think RP has done masterful job addressing roster voids. Thankfully this squad is not “foul happy” or we would really be screwed.

I agree with this, bit as the season winds down, I think it is going to be VERY hard to keep the guys fresh unless we can eek out some meaningful minutes from 2 guys we have not had to count on up till now, to stretch the rotation to 7.
