Rick $tansbury enters the picture.  How this guy and Will Wade still have a job when they are known cheaters and pay for players is beyond me.

Sounds like we know who Slater  isn’t rooting for

Slater is a known CMA hater.   I have no idea why, it may have something to do with CMA and Goodman's beef, I don't know.  But, Goodman really doesn't like CMA, he goes out of his way to post negative stuff about him. CMA's son said a few years back on twitter that  Goodman said something about him or one of his players then tried to act cool with him when he seen him in person and CMA basically told him off, so now he just bad mouths CMA on twitter whenever he gets the chance.  Anybody that knows CMA, knows he doesn't play that game.

All I know is that other schools seem to be signing kids off this transfer portal right and left but with us it’s like pulling friggin’ teeth to get kids to come here. This is not a knock on CMA at all because it’s been like this since the Norm days. I understand about facilities etc. but it’s still the Big East, it’s still New York City and I know the Garden is not the huge sell it once was but it’s still the Garden. It shouldn’t be this hard to get kids. There’s a problem somewhere? I understand lack of success also but other coaches take over downtrodden programs and get kids. I just don’t understand it.

Didn't we get 2 transfers in Smith and Wheeler?
Don't we have 6 other players on roster (Posh, Wusu, Pinzon, Traore, Stanley, Nyemi)?
And we are final 2 or 3 for another right now in Soriano?
And other irons in the fire?
Of course the X factor is Julian returning.

Just need to get to 10 players.  11 to 13 are going to be pointless since they won't play much and likely will be unhappy next spring.  Just focus on filling out 1-10

I think you hit the nail on the head with that statement, 11-13 likely will be unhappy. It's nice to have tons of depth but we're in a time when every kid wants to play.

10 is a great number if it’s 10 guys you know you can count on. We have 4 guys at a minimum who have never played a minute of D1 ball. I like the freshmen and think they will all be good players at some point but I’m not ready to pencil them in to be 8-10 either with the way CMA likes use his bench.

Agree 100% Mase. I like the 3 freshman, Nyiwe, and Wheeler, but I can't say we have proven Big East depth even with Posh, Champ, Smith, & Wusu.
We need Soriano or a similar big, plus at least 1 more good shooter imo to have a semi-deep Big East roster.
I think and hope we'll get there, but given that, the 'magic number'  seems to be 11 - 12, not 10.

I think our first 2 signings in Stef Smith and Wheeler are absolute net gains as far as talent added.  We certainly need more talent both in numbers and quality but IMO our start has been strong.  Still tons of time and tons of kids out there.  We haven’t had a slow start at all.  Definitely a big job but no doubt we will keep adding.  In addition more and more kids seem to be hitting the portal.  Great time to rebuild/reload.

Of course Moose this is 100% correct philosophically. However I think, logistically it does not happen in this manor because you don't fill out a roster sequentially. Among the first ten guys you sign might include your 11th, 12th and 13th most important players. The guys you wind up adding as your last three signings (11-13)  could wind up being among the better players you want in your regular rotation of top eight players. In addition injuries play a factor in where a player fits. For example when Posh went down this year with his thumb injury, Jonathan McGriff filled a ballhandling and defensive skillset that was needed without Posh in the rotation. He moved up the chain and contributed as part of the regular rotation for the key Providence and Seton Hall wins that ended our regular season.

Also players from 11 through 13 on a roster can change and evolve over the course of a season for a variety of reasons. Injuries, slumps, defections, disciplinary issues, chemistry issues and numerous other factors change those dynamics. Hopefully CMA will fill as many spots as he can and find roles for as many as possible. He has been doing this for a long time and I believe this Transfer Portal anomaly should not change his approach in that regard.

Of course 11-13 need to be filled but in reality they won't see the light of day and if they do its because something else seriously went wrong.  The fan focus should be on 1-10 is what I'm trying to say.  McGriff, Caraher were 11,12 to start our year and irrelevant.

Coaches need to plan accordingly that 11-13 need to be development players but also need to be on the lookout that they do have a free transfer if they don't play.  We have brought in 2 guys who can't transfer again in Smith and Wheeler.  Soriano if he joins would also be in that club.  So thats a big factor in how you build out the roster.  I'm not envious of any staff trying to build a roster and protect themselves from mass defections moving forward.
