There was some really good updates in Troy Mauriello's podcast with Zach he released yesterday.  Basically said staff is in a really good position with Joel Soriano and staff is still in communication with Greg Williams Jr. and its a chance he may return, Zach said it's about 60/40 that Greg goes somewhere else. He said those are the staff 2 highest priorities right now.  He also mentioned there's a guy not in the portal yet that he's hearing things about that could be a "blockbuster" pick-up if things go right.  I'm guessing that is Jose Alvarado, Paultzman was hinting at that in this thread.  Also, there was mention of Jalen Pickett of Siena.

https://twitter.com/TroyMauriello/status/1380881313549402116

I admit I'm clueless how a team gets word of a potential pickup from another program who is not in the Portal.
Word of mouth from the player to a former coach or handler to...?...that the kid may want to return 'home'?
Can anyone enlighten me?

We were talking about this in the Transfer Rule Discussion thread.  That's one of the reasons I was saying it's going to be a lot of tampering going on with the new 1 time free transfer rule, all it takes is a kid to call his AAU or High School coach and tell him he's thinking about transferring and ask him which schools would be interested in him, then that coach calls a few college coaches and says "Hey, I might have a kid coming in the portal soon, any interest?"  Those AAU/High School coaches responsibility is just to get their kids in the best possible situation, so of course they are going to try to be ahead of the curve, they are not going to wait until they are in the portal to see how much interest there is.

Just think about it, you think a kid has talked to 30+ different schools within an hour or two of getting in the portal?  You'll see a reporter say they are officially in the portal, then 1 hour later you see a long list of schools that have contacted him, there's no way anybody has had time to have a conversation with all those schools and talk to a reporter to give them the names of all those schools within that short amount of time.

Great help. Thanks MP.

Could the blockbuster transfer be a family reunion in queens?
Did not listen to pod cast but “blockbuster” could be a bit of hyperbole

Perhaps, but it was Braziller who kept saying it based on something he is "hearing" but is premature right now.  So could have some legs, although this stuff changes hourly.

Keep in mind, Zach gets so much of his info from this web site. ;-)

Troy did a great job and it’s definitely worth the listen. Zach did compare Wusu to Traore. In a toughness, make an impact physically type of way,  I can agree. But it goes without saying that their games are nothing alike.

I am sure Zach heard something of substance, but merely tempering my expectation re it being a blockbuster. It seems clear in any case staff is hard at work to improve roster.

Would feel better if he said netflix instead of blockbuster

Really was well done and informative

Not a transfer, but a de-commit from Iowa State, Jayden Nunn who TJ followed today fwiw

https://247sports.com/player/jayden-nunn-46110526/

Also he followed Maryland senior guard Darryl Morsell who announced Monday that he is entering the transfer portal and declaring for the NBA draft, but will consider all options, including returning to the Terps next season.

Obviously staff aggressively pursuing guards and bigs

Zach wasn't talking about Justin as far the "blockbuster" he actually spoke on the chances of Justin coming to St. John's and he said it's very unlikely.  He said he thinks Justin will either stay in the draft or transfer to a blue blood for his junior year, said he doesn't see him at Pitt or St. John's next year.

But, the good news is he said he'd be shocked if Julian isn't back playing for St. John's next year.

Iowa State has produced a couple big time studs in the NBA recently in Talen Horton Tucker and Tyrese Haliburton.

FWIW, Jayden Nunn is also following TJ. Looks like VCU, MS State, ASU. and even KS may have had some interest in the kid outta H.S.

The more teams that get involved the less of a chance we have. We never win these recruiting wars when there are a lot of schools involved.
