So long as we show we can close on one of these bigs we are trying for whether Soriano or Matos, I am good. If we can't that is a bad sign imho as our need is pretty obvious.

There will be more options but yea I agree.

Nice avi...The Ship be sinking! /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

I want Soriano because it gives opponents a true big to worry about and opens space for everybody else to work.  Plus I love that he has a hook shot...;-). Let’s sharpie this thing and get it done!!

Hearing of a third interior guy possibly in the mix, but no specifics

Yeah, I heard he’s 6’8 205lbs.  He averaged 2.4 points ppg and 3.2 rebounds at sw Oklahoma st tech, but he’s really athletic and has untapped potential.

Before you guys crucify me, I’m joking.

Per Zags in late January....
https://www.zagsblog.com/2021/...-interest-with-strong-start-to-senior-season/

FWIW 247Sports has no national rank, but rates him  a 3*, the #30 CG in '21 Class and 8th ranked in TN. Illinois offered him in June '19, but he seems to be buried on a deep list of guard prospects.

There was some really good updates in Troy Mauriello's podcast with Zach he released yesterday.  Basically said staff is in a really good position with Joel Soriano and staff is still in communication with Greg Williams Jr. and its a chance he may return, Zach said it's about 60/40 that Greg goes somewhere else. He said those are the staff 2 highest priorities right now.  He also mentioned there's a guy not in the portal yet that he's hearing things about that could be a "blockbuster" pick-up if things go right.  I'm guessing that is Jose Alvarado, Paultzman was hinting at that in this thread.  Also, there was mention of Jalen Pickett of Siena.

I admit I'm clueless how a team gets word of a potential pickup from another program who is not in the Portal.
Word of mouth from the player to a former coach or handler to...?...that the kid may want to return 'home'?
Can anyone enlighten me?

Never over until fat lady sings, but as you noted Soriano appears a SJU lean with an OSU zoom next week. Blockbuster referenced may perhaps be another player since Alvarado not yet in portal. A lot of lines in water.

I think you covered it. Transfer
sharks monitor kids, especially ones they unsuccessfully recruited and use whatever under radar sources available.

I have seen Alvarado play several times this year
He is a true gamer, just like Posh, with a more dependable jump shot
If we can pair them together, we'd have one heck of a back court
We would be pressing and trapping all over the place
It would be a lot of fun to watch.  Would love to see it happen!!

We were talking about this in the Transfer Rule Discussion thread.  That's one of the reasons I was saying it's going to be a lot of tampering going on with the new 1 time free transfer rule, all it takes is a kid to call his AAU or High School coach and tell him he's thinking about transferring and ask him which schools would be interested in him, then that coach calls a few college coaches and says "Hey, I might have a kid coming in the portal soon, any interest?"  Those AAU/High School coaches responsibility is just to get their kids in the best possible situation, so of course they are going to try to be ahead of the curve, they are not going to wait until they are in the portal to see how much interest there is.

Just think about it, you think a kid has talked to 30+ different schools within an hour or two of getting in the portal?  You'll see a reporter say they are officially in the portal, then 1 hour later you see a long list of schools that have contacted him, there's no way anybody has had time to have a conversation with all those schools and talk to a reporter to give them the names of all those schools within that short amount of time.
