As far as being undersized goes, does nobody remember those years where guys like Glover, ty grant etc were our biggest player at like 6’6”? Those days we were truly undersized. Certainly we need to add one big body in the middle but completed to many past years not as undersized.
Middleton, Grant, Singleton, Minlend, and Glover. I liked Grant’s game the most because he was skilled in the post and may have been the tallest at 6-7. These guys were all very strong and had some weight on them. They knew how to use that strength to score in the post, box out for rebounds, and push bigger guys further away from the basket on defense. It’s hard enough today to get a 6-9 to 7 foot kid that wants to do those things, they all want to stand out on the perimeter to shoot threes, show off their handle and out jump guys for rebounds. Finding undersized kids that work on post skills is probably harder. Bigs don’t want to be bigs today. Marcellus is a perfect example of a kid who would have been that type of undersized player 20-30 years ago, but he’d rather stand out on the perimeter and shoot threes. I don’t see anything wrong with bigs shooting threes and improving skills, I just wish they wouldn’t abandon post scoring and boxing out for rebounds. Jordan, Barkley, and Kobe were great perimeter guys but they also posted up guys for easy baskets. The more ways a guy can score the harder it is to stop them. Out of all the recruits we have coming in I’m most interested in the kid Stanley because he reminds me of those old school undersized post guys except he’s taller than them at 6-8. (hopefully). He looks strong, skilled in post, and hopefully consistently boxes out for rebounds. I think he could be the sleeper of this class.
