SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

I can't even keep up but 3 Memphis players entered portal DJ Jeffries, Boogie Ellis and Damion Baugh.

Boogie and DJ were very highly recruited kids who were initially committed to Duke and Kentucky before both de-committed to go to Memphis..  Boogie just scored 23 points in the NIT Final and is transferring.  Wouldn't mind getting involved with either kid particularly DJ.

Guess the NIT did wonders for Memphis!

So about Desi Sills and Aidan Igheoin.....

Sills I would be interested in (would rather have Khadary Richmond but don’t know if that is realistic but he appeal to his joining the “Brooklyn Posse”.)

Igiehon, doesn’t grab my interest.  I wanted him after high school and would have been happy to have him this year, but he didn’t do anything in two years at the Ville.  I am looking for upgrades.  If we got him and two other bigs who had some status in getting on the court and doing something, then I’d feel better.

How many highly productive Centers are really out there?

Say what you want, we lost two kids that could really shoot the three ball.  I know Smith has a shooter's reputation, but we will need more of that.

3pt FG%
Williams       45.5%
Earlington    38.7%

You are right and we have to wonder if there isnt a real problem with the coach and staff that would leave to this mass exodus. Exodus ironically during passover lol
this program is going nowhere fast

No way to put a positive spin on either transfers. These guys were going to be the core of what we all hoped was going to be a special team.
A healthy GW should have been penciled in as the 2nd leading scorer.
And ME had a chance to be an elite 6th man.
Replacing them is going to be hard, because it's not just about talent. It's experience in the CMA system.

I am in no way trying to argue that either is not a loss. I'll just say the Williams stat is a bit deceiving. He averaged making 1 three per game over the course of the season. 26 made. He was super passive almost to a detriment at times. Would have loved to see him attempt much more, because he could obviously hit them at a high clip. Who knows if that stat goes down if he had taken more and tougher shots. I certainly expected him to take that next step as a senior next year.

As I said Sills would be a huge pick up.  People will probably just look at his numbers and only see 7 PPG and not pay too much attention, but honestly he would be the biggest (of the realistic) pick-up the staff can land.  He fits CMA's system like a glove, started for him at near the end of his freshman year.  He would have easily been the 3rd best player on this St. John's team if he was on last year's roster.  He's an upgrade over Williams and Dunn at the guard position.  I'm certain neither of those guys would have made Arkansas' rotation, which was only about 6-7 guys.  He would give the team a veteran presence, a guy that knows the system, and a guy with NCAA tournament experience, and when he played for CMA he could really shoot the 3 ball, shot 46% under CMA, but in Muss' system only show in the low 30's.

As far as Aiden, seems to be mutual interest from what I can see, he seems like a project though, what concerns me is comments of him just not being ready for the college game by his previous coach. However, with the recent opening of scholarships, staff can afford to take a chance on him and probably grab another big as well.  It's a low risk high reward situation with him, however, how many other teams are thinking the same thing?

As a long time alum and season ticket holder this year's transfer portal is insane. We lose 6 guys and it's a shock. However I am a believer in our Coach and AD in particular along with a sports friendly President. We have professionals.
The 1000 plus athletes in the portal can look at our program and see a Great AD and coach who won coach of the year and developed the BE rookie of the year and leading scorer. We have a great staff who are all total professionals and hard workers. I have faith we will entice good players and we will be significantly better team next year especially if Champagne comes back!.

how on earth are we going to fill 7 slots?

Five slots, and honestly I don't care if it's only three, just so everyone stays relatively happy.

Igiehon is seeming pretty realistic, so that's one less spot to fill.

Not trying to be doom and gloom, but want to raise a serious question.  Doesn’t the mass transfers and uncertainty of Champ make it significantly more difficult to attract talent in the transfer market?  Some posters on here have this quiet confidence that we are going to upgrade at nearly every spot.  I don’t see it.

How uncertain do you think Champagnie is? What staying/leaving percentage are you operating under?

Everyone is losing kids. I don't think we'll have any more difficulty than we'd ordinarily have attracting talent, and hopefully slightly easier because when we looked good this season, we looked really good. Local coaches are impressed by what he's done with their three-star kids.

All depends on the kid and what he is looking for. Remember, Earlington is transferring for more minutes and there’s plenty of kids that are looking for the same. We now have plenty of minutes to go around at every position. We had grad transfers commit to us during some of our worst seasons like Mullin’s first year. There’s always kids looking to go somewhere just to play.

Aidan remains in play apparently. Hopefully his stint at Louisville does not mean he can’t help. Panther’s caution does give me pause however. His list of schools should shed light on his potential value once revealed.

Heard a MEAC kid also being looked at. Hopefully they do better.
