SJU Portal Targets

Sanon + Hopkins + solid PG who can shoot + shooting 2/3 type + returnees Rick wants = a team that may not have the 24-25 outstanding record, but potentially a dangerous second week Dance team.

Last yr RP noted need to put a rabid defensive team on the floor. This off season he was clear that getting better shooters while preserving a solid defense was a must. Doing the later is a challenge, but Pitino is quite capable of achieving that as we all know.
Shooting should really improve with Glover, Lefty, and Brady getting major minutes next season. Assuming they all come back of course.

Sounds great. So as of today, we lose Richmond, Luis, Scott and Smith.

Incoming are Sanon and Hopkins.

That means we have TWO open spots. Assuming one PG at least needed.

We also don’t know if others will be portalling.
I’d be surprised if staff did not have a fair idea about what current players will potentially portal. In exit interviews, staff was probably real clear w returnees about their envisioned roles. Fans hate to see some kids move on, but it is the way of the world now obviously.

Folks:

I am posting this message in three different threads because people are using them interchangeably and the moderators only have so many hours in the day to move posts to where they belong.

SJU Portal Targets: Discussion of potential incoming SJU transfers who have not yet committed. Once they commit they get their own thread (e.g. Welcome, Cooper Flagg!)

2025 Portal; Portal news that has nothing to do (directly) with SJU (e.g. Tarris Reed staying at U Conn).

25/26 Season: Discussion of anticipated look/developments of next year's team with projected returnees / incoming transfers.

Thanks for your help.

Am I missing something? Did Hopkins commit?

Re: Demary I'm guessing that the overall size/upside/defense so strong (and surrounding shooting will be better) that the FG % doesn't dissuade? Seems his 3pt and FT have improved so hopefully room for improvement in midrange etc. This tells me Rick thinks he has DEMON potential on D - would love to see what Rick and staff can do with him...

Agree. While Pitino’s stated goal is to improve the offense this offseason, he will not break away from building on the program’s defense first identity. We would love to build our version of Houston.

Is Thibs our secret recruiter? Maybe he was there to see the Nova trio. Dolan buy him the seats?

I'm thinking conspiracy theories....

0n3 says they hear Michigan, USC and UCONN the most with Cadeu but indicate they could see SJU getting involved...

North Carolina transfer Elliot Cadeau is one of the top point guards in the portal. I’ve heard three schools mentioned here: Michigan, UConn, and USC but there is likely plenty more. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see a school like St. John’s go after him as they lose much of their backcourt and Cadeau is from the Northeast.

Rabid defense was there about 70% of the time this season, but there were too many uncontested 3s and blow by drives to the hoop. InProvidence Id argue that not only our offense was poor but our defense let in too many uncontested layups as well. When i watch Duke, Houston , i see unrelenting D. We need to work towards those levels.
