Think Paultz was looking at it from Ayos perspective. At some point want to be more than 12th or 13th guy and think he’d get some decent playing time by dropping a level or so.
And that's what Pat was asking as well, I totally get it. It's like the Drissa situation, kid obviously wants to play. So as far as what's in it for the kid? Don't know truthfully, likelihood of playing time is near zero so...St John's degree?

I'd be ok with those.. but thinking the NIL should be under budget given there are likely other options at similar level (other than Cliff)
Maybe we’re saving some money for the trade deadline. 😉 Agree - what Paultzman proposed is underwhelming and if we want to win BIG like Pitino stated in his opening presser got to do better than Cliffy and his runts 😊

I think we need a bigtime PG/ComboGuard badly.

And with the NIL promises from Repole and Matt A on board, etc, it would feel empty to me if we didn't get one.

I don't have as much confidence in Sim as others here do.

And none of the guard names so far mentioned moves the needle at all.

Joseph seems like a fine backup on a good team and Davis is a good catch-and-shoot player but that's about it.
Are you not counting clayton in your players if you say nobody moves the needle?

😂😂😂

To be clear, not suggesting anything, just in a “what if” mood. I do think the next two additions are likely Cliff and a hard to come by PG and maybe the exercise is more reasonable then. No more “Paultz moods” 😇

How do you feel about Mikeal Brown-Jones? sju79# mentioned him as someone to keep an eye on. He's 6'8", 220 from Philly. His stats are 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 54% FG% and 43.1 3PT%.
I never saw him play, but there are some red flags in his stats. Only a one-year starter at lower level D1. While he shot 43% this year, he shot 29%, 23% and 18% in previous years. He was not a high-volume shooter from 3 this year. 2.1 attempts per game, made less than 1 per game. In such a small sample size (25 for 58), just a few more missed shots here or there would dramatically affect his 3pt%. It's like batting averages in baseball at the beginning of the season.

you have to recognize by now your posts are dissected here like a Biology class...
Actually I did understand that Paultzie was just throwing that proposal out there to see if it would be enough to satisfy us fanatics but can understand why he felt the need to clarify. Cliff would be a great start but IMO we would still need one other high impact transfer to allow us to make a big jump with a chance to win big. Clayton or another high scoring player otherwise we are relying on guys like Wilcher, Luis and to lesser extent Zuby and Dunlap to not only make a jump but a big jump. I would like someone that has already established himself as an impact player.

I think we need to think about next year's roster in terms of improvements over this year. Presumably, all the returning players will be improvements over themselves. So who improves over Joel (Cliff yes), Danis (Clayton yes), Dingle (unknown) Taylor (unknown) Chris (unknown)?

How would board feel if we add three very capable players but not mega stars to Cliff, but shore up shooting and ball handling? I am ok w that and above that is gravy.
I would feel underwhelmed. So far, despite what Marallac says, no guard mentioned except an unlikely Clayton comes anywhere near to replace Danis Jenkins. As of now we have no proven back court. Everyone keeps counting on Wilcher but Wilcher has only shown glimpses, and that was rare. We need to bring in two high powered back court guys with Cliff and an improved Luis if we have any hope of breaking into the top three in the conference. Cliff alone won’t move the needle nor will mediocre mid major talent.

Cliff was a must we needed a center to replace Soriano and an upgrade on defense at that position Cliff was first team all big ten defense no more getting beat every play with the pick and roll. I think we need one more big time player and would love that to be Clayton he would be awesome here. Then just solid guards who can shoot the three I think if we got Cliff, Clayton Dubar and Davis with what we already have we would be a top level big east team next year.

We aren’t replacing anything. Last season was a duct tape job. Pitino is building his first of five (hopefully more) teams to make deep March runs.

If we have 4 spots, then three need to go to high end defensive players and athletes. Then maybe you hunt some offense with the fourth.

I’m fine with 4 guys that can give you 10-12 ppg like Joseph and Dubar if they are dogs on defense. Cliff too.

Our starting guards this year couldn’t stay in front of a fat chick even if they had a hot dog cart. Joseph would be serving those slobs churros for desert for 94 feet.

i agree with the overall sentiment that we need at least 2 real upgrades for us to make some big noise next year. all the names thus far seem on par with what we had this year (save Cliff).

i think clayton is a pipe dream.

Clayton feels like way beyond wishful thinking honestly. It just doesn't make sense to me from his perspective/situation. If he were to come here why not last year with DJ in year 1 of Pitino. We know he had a pregnant gf who has since had the kid. So now that the kid will be basically 1 he'll come back to NY? It's the same situation as last year basically, so what changed that it's viable now as opposed to last year when being close to family was the priority? Doesn't really make sense to me. All signs point to him going pro if anything.

If I'm the staff of course I reach out and ask and gauge temperature, doesn't hurt.

Obviously I'd sign up for it in a heartbeat over literally anyone in the portal, including Cliff, that's how good I think Clayton is, especially paired with Sim. But I am absolutely not holding my breath and thus will hopefully be pleasantly surprised if it happens.
